How to level up fast?
It is supposed to be possible to level up quick via crafting. Since you are new you would likely have to buy gems and then convert them to in game gold. I have never leveled by crafting so if you try it be sure to read up on it and follow the guides which tell you exactly what to do, what to buy, and what and how many of each thing to craft.
This is what I do. First I will do all the hearts, challenges, vistas, poi and exploration of the starting map of my race. At some point it is possible that part of the map will out level me so I then switch to another races starting map so that it is easy again.
To quickly go to another race’s starting map you need to get to the hub city called Lion’s Arch. In Lion’s Arch there are portals to each of the races home cities. Each home city is attached to that races starting map. A quick way to get to Lion’s Arch is to enter WvWvW by clicking on the icon in the upper left of your screen that looks like a little castle. Then click “enter wvwvw” and choose the Eternal Battlegrounds. Unless there is a waiting list to get in (probably only on Friday Saturday and maybe Sunday) you should get teleported there. Then look for the giant round pink portal. It will be near a few other portals of different colors and will be larger than the rest. Go through that and you will find yourself in Lion’s Arch standing near a bunch of portals. These are not the portals you want. From there you need to head straight north over a bridge to a round area with a giant water fountain in the middle. Actually right now I think it is not a fountain but a holo projector that is projecting a dragon into the sky. Look up. Now head west and you should find the cluster of portals that lead to all of the races home cities.
Be sure to go back to any unfinished maps and get 100% completion on them.
WvWvW can be great for leveling but I think it works best if you can get into a large zerg that is running around capping stuff. Look for a commander icon on the wvwvw map and head for that.
Once I hit lvl 30 I like to do the story mode dungeons as they become available. First time through each you get about 3/4 of a level plus ex for killing stuff. After that I think it is 1/4 of a level per run.
That should keep you busy. Hope my info is correct and that I didn’t ruin anything for you.
Lol. wups I didn’t read your question properly. I told you all the stuff that you did not want. sorry

To level up fast:
.1) If you are new to the game, forget crafting! You don’t have the gold nor the materials to craft (unless you get them from another source).
.2) Take the most exp as you can by doing:
.i) – Story Line quest (green missions) rewards huge amount of exp. Don’t try to make quests to high as you will have a hard time completing them.
.ii) – Do the Dynamic events as soon as they appear, even if you are doing a heart quest or looking for a Vista/PoI. Dynamic events comes and goes. The others are statics and you can do them when you want.
.iii) – Between dynamic events, do the group events first, champion and verteran kills second and then the normal Dynamic events. If two near events appear together, try to hit one or two mobs from one (or catch and deliver something), and pass to the next one. It’s better to get one GOLD and one BRONZE, than simply one GOLD.
.iv) – Always be on map zone level. If you are level 17 and the map is 1-15, pass to the next area to where the mobs are “your level+0 to your level+2”. You get more experience from events this way. You have plenty of time to clear maps later.
.v) – Always use a exp+10 (or exp+15) consumable food. It’s always good to have a boost regardless small it may be.
.vi) – Don’t use very out-leveled gear. The better it is, the faster you do things. It don’t need to be extraordinary. You can get cheap low level items from the trading post.
.vii) – Don’t go to WvW at low levels. The rewards aren’t that good for a low-level. If you want to level in the WvW, i recommend doing it, at 40+
.viii) – Don’t be afraid to use any Exp boost you may receive. Leveling is linear, and you would benefit the most at lower levels than at higher levels. Specially the ones from killing. (Higher levels have higher amount of DE and Dungeon XP, so it is a waste).
.ix) – Explorable paths dungeons are a good source of Exp (~1 level per path). Although the first starts at level35, i don’t recommend doing it, unless you have a good group (top level players). Always tell you are a new player and not very leveled. Most of players helps.
.x) – Last but not the least. Join a good active Guild! Guilds makes the leveling process much faster and much more enjoyable. Having guildies to help out is awesome. Don’t forget to do the same later!

If you are new to the game, I really can not understand you did not start discovering first? before asking on the forum how to level up fast… take it step by step…
If you walk around the map of the first zone you are in you will see that heart shaped icons will pop up on your map and these represent the quests, besides these hearts there are a few other icons on the screen representing waypoints (fasttravel) and some exploration rewarding icons. If you just start by finishing those quests you will be fine.
Also any big orange looking thing on your map is called a dynamic event, it is an event that can pop up at any time and it will go away after someone finished it or the time is run out, try and participate in them because they will reward you for it!
But start by exploring the game! Learn by doing! Much more fun and effective.
“Starting zones quests” could be either those yellow hearts where you have to do a certain task for getting those complete, at completion you get a nice amount of exp or personal storyline (green mission info).
WvW can help you level, but not very fast and I wouldnt recommend it below lvl40. You have to
a) survive and
b) do a certain amount of dmg
to get exp in WvW. In my experience it’s simply very uneffective below lvl40.
Btw, doing map completion will help you later on a lot. I leveled my first character only by completing one zone after the other and even though I wasnt the first to hit lvl80, I still got there in time and I was the first getting gift of exploration which you need for legendary weapons.
Also it makes it a lot easier for me nowadays to help my guild with guildmissions, level characters via cooking, finish event achievements fast.
A few questions from me too:
1). Leveling by crafting:
– should this be done at higher levels? If yes, around what level?
– how much exp would a crafting prof give? (say 1→300, since I`m a casual non rich player)
– which and in what order should one start with the crafting profs?
2). The food (+10% experience) and the Oils are available from level 5.
– do they stack?
– what other exp boosts can one get? (banners / something else?)
– with the fastest exp gain/money spent as target, does it matter what kind of buff consumables (food/oil/potions) one uses? Are they all the same? Should one always get the cheapest ones (3 coppers/piece) or there is a more efficient way?
3). Story quests; I have leveled up long ago a few toons, and some of the story quests were not easy nor short.
– should one do them every 10 levels? Every 20 -30 levels?
– should one do them when they come (normal sequential way) ?
4). Vistas and map completion at lower and higher level.
– long ago (if I am not mistaking) map completion some time awarded the rare lv 80 transmutation stones (or was it the personal story quest?..); are the rewards for a lv 20 toon that completes a map worth the time? what about for a level 60?
5). If you read all this, you may have an idea about what kind of player I am, and every tip/criticism you are willing to share will be appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

That would get you 6 levels.
See explanation here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Talk:Experience#Gaining_Character_Levels_through_Crafting

Food and oil/potion/sharpening stones stack and as long as it is the same +10% it doesn’t matter which item you get. I believe there are some food with a +15%.

Hard to say. I usually combine it with map completion. The order goes like this.
1) Complete starter map
2) Do personal story until it goes to another map
3) Complete that map
4) Do personal story until it goes to another map
… all the way until the end
4). Vistas and map completion at lower and higher level.

Map completion sometimes does give the transmutation crystal instead of the stone. It can also be a black lion key. Can’t remember if I ever got a crystal from a low level zone. The stack of crafting material can be quite useful if you are starting out and you need materials for crafting.

Even players who are starting new characters can take a page from this and use it to their advantage.
Now if the rest of the puzzle can be ferreted out – making gold instead of it being a total sinkhole
Thanks for the help, my elementalist thanks you!
