How to make coins?
wich coins are you talking bout??
You have copper coins, silver coins and gold coins. They are all the same currency. if you have 99 copper coins and get one more it will turn into 1 silver coin automatically
If you have 99 silver coins and you get one more it will turn into 1 gold coin automatically
If at level 8 you only have 50 copper coin you have been buying stuff. The first tutorial part (where you defeat the big boss) grants you with 80 copper atleast.
If you have 50 silver coins allready thats a good thing. I normally am lucky to get bout 15 silver when i reach level 9. at level 9 i need to buy a trait book for 10 silver and drop back down. There are many ways of making money in this game. But none should be to worry bout right now. Wait till your like level 30.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Do NOT pay 10s for a trait book at lv11.
Buy one off the Trading Post for around 6s instead, it’s the same thing.
At lv8 there isn’t really much need to care about gear, this holds true up to around 15-20 depending on how well you have adapted to using your character/skills. Various Personal Story steps will have gear as reward and you can buy some from karma vendors as well after completing hearts/events.
I’m new to GW2.
I have a level 8 Mesmer Asura.I’ve only gotten around 50 coins after coming this far and selling all my junk. Am I doing something wrong? It seems like I can’t get any coins really to buy the weapons and armor that I want…
The heart missions reward coins as well. If you have done some then make sure you check your mail be cause they will be in there. You mentioned selling junk and that is another way to get coins. You can also sell drops you don’t think you will need or can’t to to vendors.
So basically, at an early level do heart missions, kill mobs that you can along the way for drops that you can sell or use, do personal story for other items that are usually geared for your level. This is a great way to start until you get the hang of it a bit more.
If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask or send me a PM and I’d be glad to help you out.
One of the tips in the “I wish I’d known that at the beginning” thread is: get your harvesting tools early.
This is an excellent tip. You should be able to afford an axe, a pick and a sickle after your first money reward, and raw materials sell on the TP. Especially cooking raw materials, and cooking is probably not the best trade skill to choose for your first character.
Don’t buy weapons and armour from the money vendors. It’s just not worth it. You can get better from the renown vendors, and you can manage for a good while on that and drops. I found I needed to hit up the TP at around level 20 because what was “coming out of the game” wasn’t keeping me up to speed, but gear on there is really cheap.
If you’re worrying about whether to spend 6 or 10 silver on your book at 11, you’ve done something wrong.
Welcome to GW2, Justin. Hope you’re enjoying yourself.
Money really shouldn’t be much of an issue at the early levels. There’s not much for you to buy yet. It will be a long while yet before you start getting whole golds.
One “mistake” I made early on was buying Salvage Kits and breaking down everything I had instead of selling it. I certainly had enough material for crafting, but I could have made that easier if I had bought the axe, pick and sickle as Womble so helpfully suggests above. But it sounds like you’re not doing that…you really shouldn’t have much to worry about.
In addition to the good advice provided, some additional points to consider…
Sell Dragon Coffers… It’s a good time to work on the mobs as if you can resist the urge to chase after the dragon skins, the dragon coffers drop often and even with the market crashing, 2s apiece is a pretty nice and accumulates quickly at the current drop rate.
Sell Unidentified Dye… if you’re not particular to the color of your outfit, dyes seem to drop at a decent rate in low level areas (and that maybe strictly my impression). Regardless, at 15-20s, it’s a safe return rather than chasing after a couple of the rarer ‘jackpot’ colors, and more often than not ending up with colors that are worth 5% of the unidentified value.
Focus on completing your zone for the area completion reward… bonus coin, equipment, material… maybe a black lion key. You may be close to completing without realizing. Also provides you with a sense of purpose, if you find yourself wandering aimlessly.
Make a point of trying to accommodate your Daily into your adventuring. Even if you have no interest in the items that the vendors are selling, if you’re desperate you can sell 5 laurel for that same unidentified dye, which can then be sold for about a gold. If you can hold off, bank the laurels as they are always adding content to those vendors.
Minimize your use of WP… they can eat away at your funds, particularly early when coin is scarce.
Best of luck!

Completing the daily also gives some coin and exp and sometimes and item in addition to the laurel.
get gathering tools, equip them, gather every node, sell what you gather on the TP (when it’s more profitable than selling to a merchant, which it is 95% of the time, and oly slightly less profitable the other 5%)
don’t upgrade your equipment every level. equip new items as you find them, do a complete overhaul every 10 levels or so (buy them from the TP, use the custom order pricing) If you have the choice between 2 items with different stats, always go for the cheaper one. any stat is good to have at low levels, and the difference between them is miniscule, but the difference in price can be huge for the level.
stay away from pvp and wvw for the time being. They are fun, but you tend to pay more in repairs than you get in loot.
do events, especially big ones (all low level zones have a big event – you know it’s big because there’s a notice on how it’s doing in the top right when you’re within half the map of it, instead of right on top of it for small events. Things like the Fire Elemental in NW Metrica. These would be tough for one person, but usually have a big crowd, and the loot you get is often pretty good. If you’re there for the pre-events as well, you will likely gain a level or 2.
‘Sell Junk’ button will become your friend – you NEVER need those grey items
gain levels. on average, you do get more valuable loot at higher levels = more money. there are some high-value, low level things (Vanilla Beans), but they are not common.
100 copper = 1 silver, 100 silver = 1 gold. therefor: 10,000 copper = 1 gold. it’s not so different from regular numbers, just base 100 instead of base 10. might help: “1g23s45c” or “1,23,45” or “12345” = 1 gold, 23 silver, 45 copper.
It’s been so long: is it even possible to complete the daily when you’re level 8? I’m sure there are some combinations of dailies that are easier for some races, but low levels are typically very limited in the areas they can get to. It’s certainly harder, though a good source of income. save the karma potions until you have a lot of them (maybe 100?), then activate many sources of +%karma, then open them. you can get up to +95% karma through bonfires, banners, guild boosts. selling the mystic coins on the TP would be a great source of income (you can always buy them from the TP when you need them, which will be a long time away).

If you do your dailies, well, daily, by the time you reach level 80, you will be ready to buy your ascended amulet using laurels from completing dailies, which is superior to exotic amulets.
