This thread will provide useful information on how to play guild wars 2 naked at max level, and without any money.

A few days ago I managed to log into GW2 after long term issues with the launcher. Upon doing so, I found my main character naked, stripped of all gear, gold and bags.

After jumping through various hoops for customer support, they claimed that there had been a compromise 5 months ago but were unable to offer an account restoration because I did not notice in time. (I had tremendous trouble playing due to the launcher repeatedly freezing during updates, and had given up trying).

Anyway after repeatedly pressing CS to suggest a way forward, here’s what they came back with so far:

You can always use your other characters in order to obtain gold and buy gear, there’s also plenty of gear available that can be purchased with Karma, Badges of Honor and other currencies besides gold. You can also sell unwanted items from your inventory or add Gems to your account to convert them into gold.

Now, Karma and badges are fairly tedious to obtain naked and unarmed. And I don’t have much to sell from inventory because the hacker took care of that for me, hello!

Adding gems to your account does not count in this thread because it costs money.

So there you have it. Please advise to your best abilities what are good ways to gear up your max level character to some acceptable level starting from zero, with no money and no gear, weapon or bags.

Seeing as if you’ve lost all your gear due to an account hack, you may as well delete and re-create your characters and start from fresh like everyone does when they first purchase the game.

Odd, never heard that reason for no Account Restoration before. You only mention your main character being stripped, are your other characters intact? If so, you can follow the Team’s advice. If not, you can start over, or leave it be. Key runs might net you a lot of Gold quickly. But most of the fun in the game, for many, is playing and leveling, so that opportunity still exists.

You could ask in chat for greens (armor and weapons) be sent you. Most PvE content is easy enough for that. With that as a start kill enough to earn money or karma to get harvesting tools to harvest wood and metals. It’s possible to get several gold a day farming iron, other metals and wood for sale. When you get enough, upgrade your gear to rare. Most rare gear is 30 to 70 silver each. When you have that you can either continue farming or do dungeons for gold.

As far as I know, the only times they will deny a restoration is in the event that they cannot verify that a compromise has taken place (i.e. all of the log ins were from your IP address) or when you have used up your 1 lifetime restore already.

You have a few options:

- FIRST, change your account password. Use a password that you have never used elsewhere before, so that the hackers won’t be able to get in again. Do not save the password on your PC.

- Start a new character to get a feel for the game again. You will earn karma and coin. Save up the karma.

- Is your level 80 an Engineer? Then instead of starting a new character, you could equip a weapon kit (e.g. Flamethrower) and just start farming monsters, and sell the loot.

- Reassign your trait points (this is free now) in such a way that it will help you survive with little/no equipment.

- Use some of the coin to purchase gathering tools, a salvage kit and at least one cheap weapon you can use, and equip these on your main character. Kill some monsters and gather resources. Equip any loot you can use. Salvage the rest, and sell all resources on the Trade Post.

- You could consider buying some food, sharpening stones, etc. from the trading post, as this can give you significant temporary boosts and is very cheap.

- Do jumping puzzles that do not require combat, such as the 3 in Lion’s Arch, and Under New Management in Southsun Cove. With luck, you will receive some equipment you can use. Salvage/sell the rest.

- Use karma to buy level 75-80 karma equipment from heart merchants (especially rings/accessories) to round out your equipment slots. (Karma is account-wide now.)

- Try to finish daily achievements and save up laurels. Use laurels to buy an Ascended amulet and (eventually) other trinkets from the laurel vendors.

Once you have all green equipment, you are fully functional again. You can work up to yellow to do dungeons for exotic dungeon armor, save up karma for Orrian temple armor, or (if you already leveled a craft or two) start crafting exotics for yourself.

P.S. If you need bags, you can buy 4-slot bags for very cheap from merchants, and a newly created character will receive a few free ones as well. These 4-slot bags are account-bound, so pass them on to your level 80 through the bank. As you earn more coin/materials, you can buy/craft better bags.

Starting with absolutely zero, not even bags, is an interesting challenge. Ever since I saw a video where 5 people did a dungeon without weapons, I’m quite sure this is achievable and even fun to do.

I would start, and I’m not kidding, as naked beggar in Lion’s Arch or Divinity’s Reach at a populated place. Tell a sad story in map chat, doesn’t matter if it’s your own or a fictitious one, and ask for donations of any kind. Money, bags, items. The most tiny (but shiny) things. Things you get by mail doesn’t require inventory space as long as you don’t pick them up.
Ignore the flames, just sit it out for 1-2 hours. Take it from a role play point of view as a role playing experience. I’m quite sure you will have minimal starting equipment or funding after that.

From there, use the dragon or event timers and visit the world boss events to get rare items for better equipment. You only need to do minimal damage to get the reward chests, the zerg will fight for you.

Do anything, as long as there are plenty of other players around. You get a bit of gold from every event, and all you need to do for credit is tag a mob or two. Every class has utility and elite skills that do damage. With your first bit of silver, get a weapon (blue, level 80 weapons are a bit more than 1s on the TP). Then you’ll have a much better time – you can start doing some world bosses, or even farm EotM. Then get armour, and start working upwards.

They probably can’t restore the account because they don’t keep backups that long. Account restoration works just like using System Restore on Windows – it resets your account to the state it was in at an earlier point, getting back lost items but also losing anything new.

But, just like System Restore, to do that they have to have a backup copy saved and each copy takes the same amount of memory as the account itself. They probably have one or two backups, going back a month or two. But they have to delete the old ones at some point, they can’t just save infinite copies of the accounts and presumably 5 months is beyond that cut-off point.

Anyway, my suggestion would be to make a new character, level them up and use them to earn gold/collect drops to gear up your character. With the new level up and story rewards you get quite a bit of stuff you can sell (including high level crafting materials from the story). It shouldn’t take long to be able to afford new gear for your main character. Maybe not your favourite skins, but functional stuff.

Oh and they probably suggested using karma or badges because most hackers don’t bother taking those since they’re not tradable and relatively hard to turn into gold. What hackers are looking for is gold (and valuable items) they can sell to other players on illegal gold selling websites. (And then accounts they can use for botting to get more gold.)

But if you didn’t have much to begin with that probably won’t help.

Make new characters, level them (getting karma and gold in the process), and then you can start to gear up your level 80 again. Once you at least have some greens on it, start running easy and fast dungeons (AC, SE, and CoF, for example) to save up tokens for cheap exotics.

Edit: If you have karma saved up, you can go buy gear with that. Exotic gear at the Orr temples is about 42k a piece, but there are other karma vendors in higher level areas that sell masterwork gear.

1. Do jumping puzzles (e.g. in Lion’s Arch) and use/sell loot until you at least have a cheap ranged weapon.
2. Look here and start doing world events, pew pew’ing from a safe distance.
3. Use/Sell the guarranteed rare you get + the loot from the chest.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 a few times.
5. Enjoy being back on your feet. Continue doing world events, go to Cursed Shore or go to Edge of the Mists for easy karma, champion bags and badges.

I wouldn’t follow the advice given about deleting your character and stating over, since you will then have the added annoyance of losing access to all the Traits.

I think theguildess offers the best overall advice. I would only add that if you are at level 80, you should be able to survive ok in the starter areas even with nothing. It should not take that long to acquire a set of blue or green gear that you can then use to participate in group events like the World Boss tour where your individual effectiveness doesn’t matter quite so much. At a minimum, do Tequatl and the Karka Queen on a daily basis to get yourself up.

Jump on the WB train for an hour, group up for easier credit/drops and just do the damage you can…. this should net you either equipment or sell the equipment for better gear…. rinse and repeat until you have decent gear.

If people are talking about the Edge of the Mists train then that’s not a problem. It’s free to get there (from anywhere in the world) and the waypoints on those maps are free too. Also the train has to go back to the spawn point every so often and that’s when most people join.

Don’t delete the toon, if it is that old it should have all the traits.

This is where a guild tends to come in handy. I’ve seen similar efforts in my larger guilds that were looking to help out a hacked toon like yours. And I know my sister really has trouble with JPs, she would probably have been happy to gear up a freindly mez with some decent stuff just for porting her to finish some of them. I’m sure others feel the same.

And speaking of JPs, you can still do a few of those easily enough and get a few level specific things.

Its not a great solution, but its something

Make a new character .. gather 5-6 silver .. buy mithril sickle for you 80 .. port to
Fort Trinity .. gather the herbs around there .. try to zone into another instance
via guesting .. gather herbs .. that will give you maybe around 1 Gold .. buy some cheap blue or green armor / weapons / jewlery ..

1) Keep the character, you’ll lose access to traits if you delete it. If you have an open character slot making a new character might help, but don’t bother buying a slot if you don’t have one open. Keep all of your old characters so you don’t have to wade through the mess of the new trait system.

2) There are karma weapon merchants in LA or low level zones and I think karma armor merchants around too. Even low level stuff is better than nothing. Also, asking in map chat, friends or guilds is definitely a good idea.

3) Do jumping puzzles in cities (there’s 3 in LA, 2 are fairly accessible) and beginner zones.

4) Gather in low level zones once you can get some gathering tools.

If they didn’t strip your account’s karma (and it’d be hard to. Turning karma into gold is quite tedious and I think only the most OCD of hackers would bother), then go to LA and visit the Lionguard karma vendors. Buy the level 80 gear and use that as a starting platform.

If that’s not feasible, then create a new level 1 character, do the Tutorial, head back into the starter city and buy some Copper Tools. Go back outside and run around for an hour gathering. Sell all the mats and that should be enough money for you to buy level 80 Masterwork gear. That’s good enough to get your character back on his feet and able to do most in-game content. (You can even bring them into dungeons/Fractals with Masterworks, although it’ll be harder than usual.)

Easy. Run EoTM train. Done. You will get everything you need. Can do it naked, can do it unarmed, can do it for free and you still get rewards. You get items from rank up, you get items from event completion, you get items from boss.

EDIT: Oh and tons of badges which can be used to outfit in Exotic gear. So quite honestly, being naked, unarmed, and broke, you could conceivably have full exotic armor and weapons in ~2weeks if you do nothing but EoTM train all day.

Ok, assuming absolutely 0 karma, laurels, gold and materials for crafting.

- Fastest way to get it would be by karma, IMHO… you’d need a little over 10k karma to get a full set of green quality gear from regular karma vendors (looking at Orr vendors). Join Edge of the Mist (hit B on your keyboard), see where the commander icon is, and run to it (you’ll probably die trying, also keep your eye on chat to see if the waypoint is pinged, it usually means the zerg will WP back). Once you reach the commander icon and complementary zerg just follow them, and when a base is captured, run inside the circle to get credit even if you didn’t do any damage. Note that even if you don’t have any weapon equipped, there are skills that you can use to do some damage, so you can get some champion bags that might also contain gear for you. Get a salvage kit as soon as you can so you can salvage anything you get as drops that might not work for your character but will sell on TP. If you get a good commander, you can probably make enough karma for a full set in a couple hours. (quick tip, if you join right after EotM resets, every 4 hours, you have a better chance to join the commander from the beginning and get quick and easier karma by captured unclaimed events).

As an added bonus you’ll also get skill points, badges of honor and WxP… WxP is useful because when you level up your WxP rank you get two bonus chests with 2 green or higher pieces of gear inside and sometimes also some siege blueprints (more on that later) which you can use (if they’re good for your character) or just sell for some extra coin.

- For bags create a new character and level it to level 3 (should be close by the time you end the tutorial), you’ll get a 4 slot bag as a reward. Put it in bank, repeat 4 times to get 4 4slot bags (not much, but it’s a start). Once you get some more coin you can replace them with bigger ones.

- Consider white gear as a start. You can get a full set of berserker white quality gear for as little as 10s on the vendors in LA, might work as a start, and will probably be enough to do things like world bosses. Use the website gw2timer.com to see which boss is the next in the rotation (skip tequatl and triple trouble for now).

- Going back on badges of honor, buy siege blueprints, promote and then sell them. For example, you can buy 2 arrow cart blueprints for 12 badges of honor, combine with 5 mithril, 5 elder wood (easily mined/logged from most higher level maps or EotM) and 1 siege masters guide (sold by miyani for 1 skill point) and you can sell them on TP for about 15s, which then you can use to buy some gear on TP.

- Get some friends/guildies to take you trough dungeons. 4 geared level 80’s are probably more than enough to take you trough a run of the easiest dungeons (CoF path 1, for example), each run will get you over 1g, drops from bosses/chests and enough dungeon badges to get one piece of rare quality gear.

O not even that, as long as you are getting credit on kills and caps. I used eotm to get my first set of exotics and it took about a week of evenings (after work and after a visit to the gym) and finished it off on a saturday. In this case, the gold will be the limiting factor but, should he be in a helpful guild, at the very minimum they will watch his back at teq (2 gold for full participation per day)
