Q:

I’ve been playing my Ranger upto lvl.35 atm and I realised I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing. What I’ve done so far is do my story and complete the zones that each story quest is in; I now have 34% map completion.

My question is, is my only aim to get 100% map completion and finish my story? What do I do along the way to 80 apart from ginding out the Hearts?

I noticed the dungeon in the Charr area but don’t dungeons give level80 armour? Should I be doing that dungeon now or lvl80? Also what other dungeons are there to do and for what levels? (please don’t use abbreviations, I’m a newb). I have no idea either of the gear progression system at end game either.

Finally, WvW: I’ve been afraid to go in since I don’t have all my traits or lvl 80 gear yet. Should I wait till 80 for WvW too?

TL;DR questions in bold

Crafting, story dungeons, WvW, PVP, whatever you want to…

“I noticed the dungeon in the Charr area but don’t dungeons give level80 armour? Should I be doing that dungeon now or lvl80?”

Story mode dungeons unlock explorable dungeons -> explorables are mainly for level 80. And no, dungeons don’t give level 80 armor only -> you get tokens by completing exploration modes which you can change for rare quality equipment at level at which you’ve unlocked the story mode. Anyway, story mode dungeons are for levels at which they unlock.

There are many other dungeons and game informs you via the mail once you unlock them, I am not sure, but I guess there is every 10 levels new story dungeon since AC.

You can go to WvW even without level 80. You won’t be as powerful as level 80 players (mostly because of gear), but you won’t be useless. You can also level up in WvW.

And also, 100% map completion isn’t necessary, if you don’t want to go for legendary.

Dungeons being level 80 is not what was meant to be. Each story mode has it’s level (The one in the Charr region, Ascalon Catacombes, story level is 30 and explorable 35). Sadly there is a tendency among some of the players to only want lvl 80 and certain professions in certain gear. But not all feel that way! There are people having fun with all sorts of group members.

Thankyou both for your replies

I think I’ll try AC storymode and see how that goes. So I do storymode to unlock Explorable mode which is lvl 35? And I save the tokens for when I’m lvl 80 or are they used for buying lvl 35 armour? I’m up-to-date with my Leatherworking and Huntsman so do I even need this dungeon armour for levelling?

Better save them. 80 will creep up on you faster than you think.

The problem with dungeons is that the downscaling is a bit off and that being level 80 with max stats and armor is too big of an advantage. This is the cause that with all level 80’s in the party they are substantial easier to do and it is hard to find a group of people to do them with. This doesnt mean you can’t try or that it is not doable.

As for your original question. Besides personal story’s and map completion there are many other things you can do. The most important are dynamic events. You might missed this so far. But each starter zone and many after it have what is called a world event. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=negeLd6w3KE

Note that these things are rather popular and go fast, but both the reward and the experience is very nice. You can find out for many world events when they start by using this website:
http://guildwarstemple.com/dragontimer/

Besides that you can also do your daily achievements as well as your monthly achievements.

Furthermore, you are now at a level you can try out world versus world.

Last of all, the current southsun cove event is in a level 80 area but for the duration of the event (till june the 11th) you are upgraded to 80 there.

do not go dungeon until you get to lvl 80.. and stop doing story at this stage.
the better way to lvling its keep doing event.

now you are in lvl 35 go to Harathi Hinterlands. get to on top of that area. keep following the other play to run event. you can get lvl to 45 to 48

then go to “bloodied coast”do quest try to get up to lvl 55.

then get to “sparkly fen” to do event. once you get to lvl 65 go back to do story.

once you get to 70 get to “frostgorge sound” to do map run and event.

after you get to 80 go for COF dungeon P1 first. ( thats the fastest dungeon. and easiest to get token to exchange extic gear)
