I don't know which class to choose =(
Want damage? Warrior.
Want survivability? Warrior.
Want team healing and buffs? Warrior.
Want a class which kicks kitten kitten Warrior.
Want an awesome arsenal? Warrior.
Want 65% crit chance? Warrior.
Bottomline: Warrior.
Guns, big swords, hammers, swords, guns, weapons, guns, bows, guns, and guns baby!

Mesmers can deal a LOT of AoE damage with a specialist Shatter build, but you need to play a very specific way to pull it off.
For general PvE survivability AND good damage, I would also recommend the Warrior as a class. My Charr Warrior can regularly clean out Veterans (sometimes 2 Veterans + mooks at the same time) all by himself, where my other characters would struggle to accomplish the same. I don’t have a Thief myself, but apparently they are really good at dealing out damage quickly as well.
Elementalists can put out a fairly high rate of DPS as well, but they’re also pretty squishy so it’s not for everyone.
I suspect mesmer would grow on your with time, as most of the classes have for me, even the ones I wasn’t very good with at first. The more you unlock, the more of a feel you get for a class.
That said, I agree that warrior is the most simple to play and rather fun I hear good things about engineer, haven’t tried it yet. Thief can apparently deal some pretty great damage but relies on quite a bit of dodging and such, so might be a bit delicate.
Maybe try a warrior or an elementalist?
Pick any profession and Give it lot’s of Power and Precision! Now you deal lots of damage!
Well since you were a healer in other games i would suggest either Ele for ranged and Guardian for Melee.
Eles can dish out some pretty sweet damage but if needed can swap to water and go healer
Guardians can dish out some good damage in melee with some pretty fun built in combos to boot . They however have a lot of protection skills that can be boon to the party .
Anyway those are my 2 suggestions for ya .
can i ask what level are you right now? for me, i didn’t really start undersatnding my class at around lvl 15 and up and then at 30 i truly felt like i was doing my class some justice. and even now at 80, i’m still learning new things everytime i play.D it’s like IRL, learning is a lifelong process lol
i play a Guardian so i can really speak from this perspective. it’s versatile in the sense that you can support, play “healer” and still do pretty impressive dmg. if you want, feel free to pm me and i can further go into detail (don’t want to leave a wall of text lol)
my wife plays a thief and does very good condition dmg. she alts an ele and can do massive dmg as well! and of course, warrior will be pretty darn decent in DPS and all around play

I got my Mesmer to level 30 and started feeling really burnt out with her, as well as dieing a ton. I see a lot of people suggesting Warriors. Are they an overplayed class? Same for Elementalist.
I am looking at Thiefs and they seen interesting

Thief can be really squishy if your not careful with it but they can dish out some serious damage fast . You just have to get out as fast as you got in .
Hm, maybe Elementalist then? Or Engineer.
Aren’t there 6 character slots? How is choosing a profession/race even an issue when you can play all of them and just play the combo you like best more often or exclusively?
I have five slots, which consist of
Level 6 Elementalist
Level 11 Thief
Level 20 Necromancer
Level 30 Mesmer
Level 2 Engineer
The Thief I seem to be dieing a lot on, as well as my Mesmer =(
The mesmer is a lot of fun. If your interested in trying it I would check out the comprehensive guide on Youtube by Mr.Prometheus.
I’ve narrowed it down between Guardian, Mesmer and Necromancer, I found I enjoy all three but not sure which to go for first =D.
Do all three at the same time.
After I got Warrior to 80, I started work on my thief which has got to 40… but then started on a Guardian because was kinda tired of being a glass cannon… and then switched to Mesmer after reading a certain guide on it… and now the Mesmer is 30, and Guardian is 22, haha.
I would suggest playing ranger… But since u don’t have one yet, i’d suggest playing guardian, cuz heavy armor just looks cool…
If it ain’t dutch,… :P
from my experience
thief—> very hard to play, prepare to die a lot. even vitality/toughness build is glass cannon… best Elite skill in game (thief’s guild) mostly burst damage. if you managed to reach 80, people in sPVP will be scared of you for no real reason.
engineer—> very fun and nice versatile class (different kits), steady damage. i enjoy it very much. roll char for racial elite skills.
elementalist—> staff for AOE + healing. scepter/dagger for burst, very versatile, contrary to popular belief, very sturdy and resilient class. best healer in game due to water fields and blast finishers.
worst elite skills in game.
ranger-> noobmagnet, very easy class with pet. get a shortbow and spam 1 and F2 when off CD. all the rest is gravy.
in PVP spam thorns (entangle) for easy win.
my mesmer is very low level, so i cant review it yet.
I <3 my Norn Necromancer. Second highest health pool beside Warrior and lots of heal abilities though life steal etc. Great DPS and undead minions if you’re lonely!
I play Staff for ranged and Dagger/War horn for melee.
Cheers!
Feed them and they multiply.
Please do not feed them.
There are no healers or tanks or dps in this game. So every class should give you the ability to deal lotsa damage, given proper building. But, since the game is so new, right now warriors & mesmers & thieves seem to be at the top of the damage mountain. That will even out as time goes on. Pick a profession which has a fun playstyle for you.
