I'm a noob.

Welcome I would just say don’t worry so much about your build while you’re leveling. Most will work well enough, so I would recommend changing things up often to gradually learn your profession.
I just started playing about a week ago. I found a build I think I’ll use for my warrior, but I feel pretty stupid having to copy a build instead of being able to create my own, but I just know nothing about the game besides what I’ve actually done and a few things I’ve read on the forums. I’m very casual and plan on only doing pve solo/occasional dungeons.
Anyone have any tips to learn my class so I can understand what traits to pick, etc.? I’m feeling pretty lost beyond just putting time into the game and learning it through exposure..
Thanks.
Remember there’s thousands of other players, all doing their best to maximize their builds, I’d say it’d but just as stupid to not use their builds as a jumping off point. I mean is it really stupid to think that maybe thousands of players combined knowledge may be greater than your own?
So with that just go to the warrior area, look up some builds, and have fun. As you play you’ll learn what fits you best and what isn’t really your style, and you can adjust from there. But learning from people who came before you is a smart thing to do, not stupid.
Oh, I just realized you might not be aware, but you can change your traits at any time so it’s not a big decision each level.
The fact that you you’ve only played for a week gives you plenty of room to say “Hey i’m new maybe I should work off someone else’s build”. Reason being is that leveling up will net you experience of how to play your class but builds other players have designed are for maxing out potential. They’re from experienced players who publicly lend their builds to inexperienced players like yourself. Take time to learn from other players it’ll make your build hunting less tiresome

I’d asked about that before, since some games don’t let you change your build :/ .
Thanks for the replies guys :P
Last thing is that I used gw2db for some builds before I realized that it’s out-of-date… Most of the skills are the same, but there are maybe 1-2 that aren’t anymore. Think the builds there are still okay to use? http://www.gw2db.com/skill-builds/950-last-man-standing

The most important thing I learned when starting was to pay attention to skill “types,” and to trait appropriate to the ones I preferred using. For instance, on a warrior, if you find that you like shouts, grab traits that reduce recharge, heal, or cleanse when using shouts. Nearly as important are weapon skills, but those are easier to trait for, in general.
Well a key thing to note is that warriors are a versatile class. You can spec with almost whatever weapon you want and still be worth a kitten …(keep in mind almost lol) I’ll avoid giving you a full build setup because I know you want to learn on your own but if you let me know maybe what you’re looking for or what you like to do with your warrior I can push you in the right direction.

That build constructor looks pretty outdated. For solo / open world play i play this :
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

Yeah, the constructor itself is outdated, but as far as the builds are concerned I don’t really know how to tell which is better than the other. :/ I’ll learn though :P

You shouldn’t expect to know the game that well after only playing a week.
If you’re interested in making your own builds I recommend starting by experimenting with different weapons, skills and traits to get a feel for how they work and what they do.
You may know this already but you will eventually get more than enough skill points to unlock all the skills, and you can switch which ones you’re using any time you’re out of combat. You can only get a maximum of 14 trait points so you can have all the lines active at once but like skills you can unlock them all and switch them around any time you’re out of combat.
So in other words you’re never locked into a build. It’s still a good idea to try and choose skills you think are useful first (especially early on) because you don’t want to be stuck with a bad skill until you’ve got enough points to unlock another one. But if you change your mind later on it’s easy to swap.
It’s a good idea to hold off on buying runes and sigils to upgrade your weapons and armor until after you’ve decided on a build though, because some of them can be very expensive.
It’s also a good idea to read through the wiki pages on the different attributes and trait lines to get an idea of what they do because some of the names are a bit unclear.
