I'm poor...
Do not worry too much about that. You are probably looking at legendary weapons or precursors (exotic weapons required for crafting legendaries). There are other ways for dressing your toon, you can use karma to buy exotic lvl 80 armor from some karma vendors on the latest maps, and you can also run dungeons for tokens (you always get tokens from dungeons) than can trade for weapons and armor. And obviously you can craft your own weapons and armors using the crafting professions.
If you are not looking for a Legendary, money won’t be an issue.
As apolyon said, karma for gear is great. Just make sure you are doing your dailies, monthly achievement, and DEs whenever you can. It’s much easier to get karma now so by the time you hit 80 you should have a lot saved up.
You could also start running AC dungeon. You’ll get 75% xp of a level for each path, and you can do 3 paths a day. You end up getting around 50s each run depending on how much you kill, and could go up to around a gold depending on magic find. So that’s 1.5g-3g per day if you do all runs. You’ll also get 60-69 tears per run which you can turn in to a merchant in LA for exotic armor/weapons.
If you want some more info feel free to PM me. I run AC daily so I wouldn’t mind showing you around the dungeon and explaining things.
Thanks for the replies!
Yes, i was looking at legendaries. Does anyone buy those at all or can i make them myself? And i have a bit of karma saved up, and some unused karma jugs too. But one weapon costs about 69000 karma. :P Will i have enough karma by the level 80 to buy them? At least 3 of them, for the set i’m using… Seems like a lot.
I saw those armors in Lion’s Arch, and weapons… Are they any good? I mean, they’re better than what i have for sure. :P
Anyway, what you’re saying is, i don’t need much gold at all to get good gear?
What we’re saying is that there are several different ways to get good gear.
All exotics are created equal, value wise, they only differ with the stats that are on them. So, you buying exotics from the TP will get you the same exotics you could get form dungeons, or from karma vendors. Most people, I think, focus on getting armor first, then they start to focus on weapons.
What I normally do is buy all 80 rare items off the TP. You can usually get items for around 25-30s, so you can outfit yourself for around 2-3g. Then, with those rares, I’ll start to farm the dungeon of the set I want. The 2nd tab at the vendor as exotics, which is what you want to go for. Each vendor has 3 sets of light, 3 sets of med, and 3 sets of heavy, with different stats. So look through to find the stats and the looks you want, then start to farm that dungeon. I would say CoF and AC are the most ran because of speedruns and money.
As for the legendaries, some people buy them. They are being manipulated right now, so it’s iffy. Also, you can make them, but it takes A LOT of grinding and A LOT of money. You have to either buy a precursor (around 100g) or get lucky by combinning 4 80 rares or 4 80 exotics into the MF (like a .01% chance). But that’s only the beginning. Remember, these are legendaries. They are mainly for hardcore players, and only a select few of them. I have no desire/hopes of getting a legendary.
Edit: I also forget to mention mystic weapons. They are main in the Mystic forge and have a set recipe, but are exotics. Good mystic weapons and you should get the stats and recipe of each one. They require 50 skills points (eldritch scroll), and 30 mystic coins, plus t6component A and B of the weapon. If you have points and coins saved up, I think they are worth it. Plus they have some cool effects.
Karma will be a great start. Hit the cathedrels in the Orr zones & you will find all the exotics u need through karma. Heres a good site to have with all the karma vendors from each cathedrel with different stat combos – http://dulfy.net/2012/09/08/gw2-templegod-karma-armor-sets/ – Legendaries however are very expensive, either in gold to buy off the TP or your play time to make it, it takes alot to get one.
TIP: Use those karma jugs when u have a Guild Karma banner buff, Karma Booster, and Ice Cream Food to get the most karma outta the jugs.
Harvest, harvest, harvest…everywhere you go. Play DE’s for the mats as well as the pick-ups. Sell mats and blue/green gear on the TP. I made nearly 3 gold by just selling extra mats just last night.
In the long run, take up crafting…good xp and eventually you’ll be able to make that 20 g item you are seeing on the TP for 2-3 gold in mats.

Thanks for the good advice everyone!

What do you mean manipulated?
And i’ve got my eyes on lvl 80 Asura cultural weapons, i thought they’d be a good starting point and they look nice. They’ll go great with my mesmer! :P Later i thought i’d transmute better weapons to look like those if that’s at all possible. Plus, they don’t cost money, so i can just buy them for karma…
TIP: Use those karma jugs when u have a Guild Karma banner buff, Karma Booster, and Ice Cream Food to get the most karma outta the jugs.
I knew about banners and booster but didn’t know about Ice Cream Food. Thank you! I’ll see to it that i have all 3 active when drinking jugs! Where can i get Ice cream?

That’s what i was thinking too… I leveled 2 levels today just by crafting. Still need to boost it a lot to get any decent items out of it. Whatever i make i can’t even sell on TP, won’t go that low lol… :P
Where can i get recipes for my particular set of crafting skills? Artificer and Tailoring?
Also, obviously what i’m doing now (mainly, roaming the maps and doing hearts and sometimes story) isn’t really working money wise. Any advice on that to do? How to proceed? I’m level 60 now, it’s fast to level in this game, so i’ll be 80 in no time, i really need some armor lol, this one is lvl 40 armor, and it’s really starting to get harder… Except maybe lvl 1 maps i do for world completion, but still…
