My main is a female norn theif, I have started a male warrior I have the heavy armor skin from the gem store. I wanted a different helm and shoulders so with out knowing I have lots of karma on the theif so I went and bought 2 heavy armor from the karma dealer 90k karma. My plans of course to transfer to my warrior.

I was so disappointed. I then thought I could transmute it then it would be account bound. Nope.!

Could not salvage or sell

I was very very upset I just deleted them as the heavy armor was soulbound to a character that only uses medium.

So do not do what I did.

Karma should be shared across all characters gosh darn it.

You should be able to break the soul binding and keep the skin. I do this on Karma bought items. Buy a low level white item, transmute it. It should then be account bound and your other toon can take it out of the bank. Transmute it again for the stats you want.

Are you saying you tried this and it didn’t work?

Yes I did try that and it did not work.

I was so upset I have deleted the item now. Shame on me.

instead of deleting those tasty tasty exotics why not salvage for ecto’s

Well, that’s a shame. I know you can’t salvage soulbound karma items but I thought you could transmute the armor. I guess it was karma weapons I did the soul breaking thing on. Now that I think back, I seem to recall not being able to soulbreak low level karma armor and ending up deleting it. What you might have been able to do, was put those pieces of armor in the mystic toilet, so that you get one piece that you then could salvage.

I probably would have deleted those items also. :/

No go. I guess they changed that option.

Just two days ago, I was able to soulbreak two Order pieces and a level 76 karma piece (which was either blue or green) using transmutation and whites. So the option is still there, at least in part.

To get this straight- did you transmute them to white pieces, put them in the bank, then have another character try to take them out? Describe what happened exactly.

When it happened to me, a month or two back, I bought karma armor from a heart merchant. I bought it for the skin to give to a low level alt. I did the transmute onto a low level white item, as low level and cheap as I could buy. But after I transmuted it, it was still soulbound. My alt was unable to take it out of the bank. I deleted it after that.

Just to be clear, you only picked the ‘look’ of the karma armor, but selected the ‘stats’ of the low level white item, correct? And it was still soulbound?

Yes, I picked the look of the armor and the stats of the white item. And it was still soulbound when I did that.

Ha ha. Made my day. Thanks to all that replied. I never did transmute to a white and use its stats. I transmuted to a exotic and took the says of the exotic.

I will try with a white.

Good luck. I only tried it the one time. Maybe I got hit by lag or some sort of bug when it failed. I didn’t attempt it a second time.

shoulda saved those exotics to put into the mystic forge at least.

I tried this a few minutes ago, brought my Warrior to Arah and purchased a full set of exotic medium karma armor to transmute for my level 11 Thief.
Transmuted it onto level 11 blue gear with no problems, it became account bound.
You must have done something wrong for it to have ended up soulbound.

You could have dumped it into the mystic toilet, granted you would prob get a single rare item back for the 4 exotics you put in lol, but at least you could salvage the rare for a single ecto (maybe).

Wrong, 4 exotics = 1 exotic minimum, most like 1-4g which is far better then nothing.

Wrong I’ve gotten rares from exotics, masterworks from rares before. Its a known bug, albeit an uncommon one, but given the unfriendly nature of RNG it has happened to me multiple times.
