So I am a level 35 Mesmer love the game amd doing everything alone AT the moment, but am fine with that. What I really need is some guide that tells me all the terms that you guys use on the forums and where to get different types of armor.

For example: Zerg (or whatever you guys call it) is that armor or is it people?

I have been looking for the living story, but don’t know where it is lol do I have to be level 80 to do that?

The different type of gear like tier 1 or tier 2 is that in this game? Or is it end game..

As for leveling I am doing map completion have done 4 of the starting maps kind of boring. I saw a video on the queensdale trail, but no one seems to do it was kind of sad lol.. Hate grinding to 80.. Wish the level cap was 30 lol

I realize I am low level and most of this I will get when I’m 80.. But I don’t have a clue what any of the stats do like power and the other ones I can’t remember. There must be a guide someone made that I could read. I feel like it could take 8 hours to read lol..

I just hope someone can point me to the right direction.

Thanks

Zerk/Zerg can refer to a number of things;
- Berserker Armor; Armor with Power/Percision/Critical damage, the most common armor used to get through content quickly since dodges often prove sufficient for survival if you kill everything quick enough (note that Assassin armor is similar with Percision/Power/Critical damage)
- The player; wearing Berserker or Assassin armor, using weapons and traits mainly aimed at killing things in the shortest amount of time possible.
- A group; running together in say World vs World (blue tag usually means Zerg here) or Champtrains in Queensdale and Frostgorge for farming purposes. But guildwars often refers to them as trains.

Living Story differs from location. Along your personal story and achievement watchlist there should be a yellow start, click somewhere in the text and the map will show you where to go. Most Living Stories can be done before level 80.

Gear differs in quality (White < Blue < Green (Masterwork) < Yellow (Rare) < Orange/Gold (Exotic) < Pink/Purple (Ascended/Legendary,) white being the worst and Pink/Purple the best) but until level 80 I’d not be too fussed. At level 80 you will generally start with getting yourself a Rare or Exotic set, depending on your wealth. Ascended and Legendary have the best stats in the game, but are only required for certain aspects of the game (40-50+ Fractals) which by the time you get there, you’ll understand the game enough. Exotic/Rares are purchase-able for gold, sometimes Karma or Badges of Honor + gold (WvW currency)

Map completion is usually the recommended way of leveling. Queensdale champ-farm is quite active on most servers (try guesting on a different server if your doesn’t do them, you guest in your character screen by selecting ‘World Selection’ picking a server (high population recommended) and Guest, you can guest up to 2 servers) but all in all the experience isn’t much better than exploring. Other options are; World vs World, Crafting (expensive) Dungeons (teamplay) and chain-event farming. I likely missed some.

I’d not worry about stats too much until level 80. Whilst leveling I personally go for Power/Percision/Critical damage (and at level 80, but that’s simply my playstyle) to kill things a bit faster since I never lack survivability (if you do, look at toughness/vitality) I fear I’ve got no good link explaining it in depth. I use this: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats#Level_80_exotic_equipment to find the name of the stat combinations I want, it doesn’t go too indepth, but does have all the information needed (at level 80, again before that, just buy some Masterworks (Green) on the Trading Post every ~10 levels)

Switching it up is always a good idea. I think no-one bothered with a topic on all the terms since MMO’s seem to share terms a lot. (Like someone told me ‘Zerg’ comes from a Starcraft race rather than ber’zerk’er.) But from my experience the community is very helpful, so if you have any more questions, simply ask, or if I didn’t cover them properly.

Engineers have the option to use kits in their uttilitie slots that have their own 5 abbilities like weapons. So they have more abbilities to work with than the average class in this game.

Another thing that makes engineers relatively complex is that they have a lot of combo fields and finishers to work with. Which are effects you gain by combing two different skills. A small overview of what these do:

Locuz is right about Engineer having complicated playstyles when you look at maximizing your own aswell as your teams capabilities. However every class has an easy yet effective option to use whilst you’re trying to get used to the class. Elementalist for example will do an excellent job sitting in Fire on a Staff spamming Lava Front and their Auto-attack, but bring a lot more utility playing with a more complicated rotation in say Scepter/Dagger or Dagger/Focus. The same goes for Engineer in my opinion. With the right traits you can sit in grenades and be quite an asset to the team, but you will eventually want to push yourself out of a comfort zone and learn the more complex rotations which will include swapping kits in quick succession to get combo’s off.

TL;DR: Play any class that appeals to you and dedicate yourself to being the best you can at it.

Zerg is a big group of people
ZerK is berserk gear or people using them

Lots of people don’t seem to know where either of those words originate from (just to fit in) and always mix them up.

Yeah, don’t get confused between “Zerg” and “Zerk”. They are two completely different things. As kokiman mentions, a Zerg refers to a massive group of players (usually 20+) that just rolls over everything in its path, whether it be AI monsters or other players. You see zergs primarily in WvW and occasionally in PvE when fighting World Bosses.

Zerk is short for “Berzerker”, an equipment stat that focuses on offense at the expense of more defensive stats like Toughness and Vitality. Zerker gear is the current “meta”, which itself is another term that refers to the most popular and efficient (but not necessarily the most fun, depending on your personal playstyle and preferences) way to beat difficult content in GW2.

have you read all the stickies at the top of this forum?

another hint is the gw2 wiki (done by players, about 98% or so accurate),
this can be accessed by /wiki in chat, and you can put item your interested in after that(with a space) to get info on that particular item.

also read other posts by inexperience players, lots of good advice already given.

Ive also had great success in asking specific questions in map (especially in lions arch)

hope some of this helps
cheers

As a mesmer assassin gear tends to do better as it not only boosts damage by a greater amount when under full Might, it also chains into lifesteal food and bleed on crit. Assassin does more damage on crittable objects at very high levels of power and critdmg%,. Warriors can already get 100% constant critrate through berserker alone however.
