If they're still standing there shooting after the event, report them.
they also tend to log out right after an event or when the fighting stops and log in a minute or two later, stay in game for about a minute, if no combat log out.
Others tend to follow the same path and fight anything they can aggro, and others still just teleport around to the mobs.
Do not be afraid to report people from botting. If ANet is too busy to take care of bots that have been in the same area for more than a week, they are not going to care if you accidentally report a few legit players.
Sometimes you can prevent them from getting credit altogether by engaging mobs in the events early/away from the botters and not letting them get close to the botters. Normally they will finish the event but at least they aren’t getting every drip of free xp.
Please note in this scenario I use discretion in making sure it is a stationary botter and not an active player at the computer. I would never intentionally do this to someone who is trying to play the game and take special care to make sure it isn’t someone who is just learning the game.
Thanks for the information about how to report them. I couldn’t for the life of me find it yesterday when I wanted to do that during the centaur/bridge defense in Kessex Hills. Those guys have been there for ages.
The disheartening thing though, is that you just know that there have been hundreds of reports already filed, and yours is just getting tucked into a huge pile — that’s just been sitting there for ages. Maybe they are planning on coming down on these guys with a vengeance. Maybe they are still working out the kinks in summoning Dhuum to reap them into perma-ban oblivion. They just need to do it soon because GW2 is becoming a botting laughing stock for it’s seeming inability to address the issue.

You can also have a little fun with the botters in some areas. The other night when I passed by the knocked out bridge in Kessex Hills (between Thunder Ridge and Greyhoof Meadows), some people must have lured a champion mob with a knockback attack over to where the botters plant themselves. Because when I passed by, all the botters were flung across the river below… still standing around spamming their turrets and AoEs, but completely out of range of the centaur attack dynamic event. Wish I knew who coordinated that so I could send them a nice little thank you gift (and ask to be part of it next time)!
Heh, that’s awesome. I’d like to thank them as well. At least somebody is doing something about these accursed bots.
Love that use of a Champion, that’s thinking. :-)
When I come across these guys, after the event is over, in /say I will post a quick line to say that anyone current at their computer should move their character as I will reporting those staying as botting. There’s usually a few that do move, the rest get the names reported – I right click each name and report, as well as write them down to include in a ticket along with a screenshot. Double work yes, but it at least shows the issue at hand clearly.
Molenheide in Shiverspur Front just above Lion’s Arch is a massive bot hot spot, there were 2 separate bot-ers with a grand total of 7 bots in that small area. Four are after the dredge tunnels, three others after the event just in front of the tunnel. The more they crack down on bots, the less gold there will be to sell, and the less they will have to fight spammers hawking their gold for sale!
I like the bots. They let me wander over to that bridge, and use my AoE to slaughter tons of centaurs for low level mats. Cha-ching!
