Just a warning to people who are new to this game.. When you get your elite skill at 30 you have everything at your disposal. Everything else is just scaling. So for example if it takes you 10 seconds to kill something in pve at level 30 it will take the same at level 80.

I found out the hard way with necromancer

I’d suggest more than hitting 30. Atleast try AC Story. Gives you a little idea of how it will be in dungeons.

I’m only responsible for what I say, not for what you understand.

You do get higher level traits, which may or may not affect your decision.

Some trait options seem to make a huge difference, though. Infusion of Shadows, for example, makes a dual dagger back stabber much stronger and more active than without it, and could make it more fun for players.

Please correct me if I’m wrong. But at level 80 you have all 70 trait points available which should help you dps more as an 80 downscaled to 20, compared to a 30 downscaled to 20, for example.

and the fact at 80 you can take the time to use armour sets with certain bonuses to push your character more in the direction you want for your play style, instead of just randomly equiping something around your level that may also help

There are a lot of specs and playstyles that are just not functional until you reach 70-80 and have all if not most of your traits unlocked and the right gear sets. Sometimes all it takes is 2 upper tier traits that turn a meh or sucky weapon into something totally awesome.

Don’t you need 150 trait points to unlock all traits? How is it possible to have them all unlocked?

BTW, is there a way to change your mind and reallocate all trait and skill points?

Thanks.

You might be thinking about skill point. You can only have up to 70 trait points (since you start getting them at level 10). Skill points are unlimited.

They meant all 70 trait points with the “all traits”.
You can reset traits at retrainer for pretty cheap price. Skill points, no. You’ll have everything unlocked in the end anyway. (And skillpoints function as currency for some high level stuff, you will keep gaining them even after lvl 80 like you were leveling up)

I enjoy my necro greatly, sorry to hear you didn’t like it. Just remember, some different weapon builds change the class completely. Dual daggers rocks in PvP

You only can earn 70 trait points (from 11-80 at 1/level) so you won’t have them all unlocked. Would make characters rather, boring wouldn’t you say?

Also yes there is a way to reset trait skills but you cannot reset skills points. You will get enough skill points to actually have all your skills unlocked. Heck Legendary weapons require you to spend 200 skill points, so you’ll have more then enough.

Back to the trait skills reset, you can find your trainer at any major city or minor (like Lion’s Arch). On your map, they will have a little book icon, and only your class is shown so it’s not confusing. When you speak with them, choose the second option to reset traits. This does include a cost however, but at level 42 it only costs 92 copper (scales with level) to reset.

Edit: Or basically what Paah said. =P

When I reached level 40 and bought the new trait book, my traits were automatically reset. I assume this happens again at 60 with the third and final book. While you are still paying for the book to unlock the next tier of traits, it’s also allowing you to change anything you may have decided against later. But skill points are unlimited. You still gain experience after hitting level 80. When you would “level” up, you are rewarded with a skill point instead. This is how it worked in GW1. Skill points are used as currency later on.

Getting the trait that allows my arrows to penetrate enemies was a bit help on making me not regret playing a longbow ranger. So I believe this statement.

I do not agree with the first post. There are different builds and different methods you could learn over the course of your leveling 30+ that would give you a much better appreciation for your class.
