Hi guys, just starting out in the game don’t know anything or have any real friends to speak of. Old hand at MMOs for the most part, have mic, and X program for voice chat. I’m West Coast USA, usually play my games late into the mornings? I prefer PVE over PVP but i like RvR type stuff sometimes.
I didn’t really see an intro section but i figured players helping players was a good place to start. Hoping for an actual non-toxic community for once right? hehe
Looking for mature people to be friends with and anyone to point me in the right direction.
Thanks for reading,
G
PS: I was wondering about addons like in other games like WoW or TSW, stuff that uss curse isn’t i guess supported, is there another option thats not prohibited by the TOS? I don’t want to get into any trouble by accident.

Hey and welcome to GW2!

As far as I’m aware there aren’t any addons that are supported by the game, there do however exist some overlays & apps on Overwolf that are fine to use.

I mainly play on EU so I can’t really help you ingame (the game doesn’t allow cross-region playing), but if you want company I’d recommend finding a guild – either by looking at the LFG subforum, asking in mapchat or contacting recruiters who ad in chat if they sound interesting to you.

In general:
- take your time to discover stuff and enjoy the leveling: there’s no need to rush to level cap, and everything gives you XP anyway.
- you can’t screw up: no matter which skills and build setup you initially go with, you’ll end up being able to have them all and to switch easily. Experiment, go with what looks fun, there’ll be time to min/max later down if you’re into that.
- if you have a problem about anything, an event or some game mechanic or just some random question about something, don’t be afraid to ask in chat! It’s been my experience over the past two years or so that you’ll nearly always get helpful people answering and/or coming over to where you are to give a hand. This board on the forum is great too, just slower than /map.

Good luck ingame!

You might want to use Guild Wars 2 wiki: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Main_Page

You can access it directly from within game chat with command /wiki.

If you would have problem with finding out how to get to a vista or something else, then Youtube might have some good video for how to do it.

Right now there are many changes in this game to adopt to Heart of Thorns expansion, so it can be tricky to find out what gear and how to level up your char as it have become more focus on condition damage then it was before of 23th June.

In general I would advice you to keep and change those item when you find loot that are the better or even buy equipment form Black Lion’s trade post (key binding [O]) and sell the rest or salvage it (important to pick also the right level on salvage tool and tools to gather material as you level up) to be within the level of your area’s bosses and critters. That way you will feel less frustration from being downed.

Junk (or damage gathering material) can be sold at repair station and vendors, so remember to do that at regular basis to keep your inventory space free from clutter and to have space for more important things. There are bags where junk will go directly like Oiled bags/packs which need to be leatherwork to craft yourself. Other crafting disciplines can craft other type of bag slots, so it useful to compare what kind of discipline will give you what kind of bags. There equipment box which will let all weapon and armour go there first, invisible packs where your items will not be seen at vendors and you have to manually items which belong to crafting to be moved to your collection at your bank. And the last type are crafting bags which the name imply are for getting all crafting material in first.

Do invest some time in collecting materials from nodes (bushes, herbs, trees and other environmental sources) for crafting materials and start crafting what you need at the same time in that way you will not feel that it is a waste as you can make use of it at the same time you level up with your char and either sell it or salvage it (especially if you want back runes or sigils). You can have two crafting disciplines active at the same time and change for small fee, so I would suggest one for your weapon and one for your armour as both will bring you later up to ascended level if you plan on going that path. Levelling Chef are useful for several reason as food and utility buffs can be made, but this craft work a little bit different from the rest. Best to look up in GW2 wiki to learn more about how these work and how you might have any use for in the future. (Most part of what you craft as chef will not give you as much money in return as the other disciplines, but you might gain achievement points (AP) which also are useful to level up as those will provide you with laurels and other benefits).

Do your daily AP and you will keep those AP to grow in a steady pace. There are 3 daily for PvE, 3 for WvW and 3 for sPvP and one which is connected to all these three game modes like the creating an item in Mystic Forge which will give you some material and AP. Important here is to know that in WvW you will get chest with material for levelling your rank up which work like special kind of levelling for WvW, the same when you do daily for PvE (you will get exp. and material related to PvE) and sPvP work like WvW with its own ranking system, so it you are going to only play PvE, then it is best to stay there for dailys. If you want to get points for rank in WvW, then continue to do dailys there even after you have done your three in PvE as you will get chest even after the minimum requirement with WXP (World Experience) and the same goes for sPvP.

All this you can read about in GW2 wiki, so you know how things work and ask in forum or in game chat (use command /m to ask people on the same map as you are).
