Hi, I am trying to obtain a stable 50-60 fps while playing spvp. I am currently only running at about 20-25 in the lobby and around 25-30 in game. I want to be able to run a continuous 50-60 fps in both if possible or mainly just while in game. I have unparked my cores, reformatted my computer, my drivers are up to date, and I use game booster. Still nothing helps in raising my fps. Any tips or suggestion would be appreciated. I will now list my rigs specs.

With an older processor and a newer demanding game you’re going to have a hard time getting stable fps no matter what you try to tweak. On intel’s page it lists the i3-550’s status as End of Life. http://ark.intel.com/products/48505/Intel-Core-i3-550-Processor-4M-Cache-3_20-GHz It may be time to upgrade.

Yep, was going to say the same thing as Spudfuzz. You really want to get at least an i5, preferably an i7.

I’ve got an i7-4790k (not overclocked) on a Z97 mobo with a GTX760 and I can maintain, without drops, a steady 60+ fps on full high. It drops to about 35, still on full high, during zerg heavy events like Tequatl.

I don’t think you’re going to get much more mileage out of your existing hardware no matter how up to date you have it. How stable is it when you have everything on full low?

It is pretty unstable. With me running on the lowest settings I still get some pretty bad fps drops when in the mist of all the fighting. It will drop to like 10-15 fps at times during a spvp game. I honestly thought that my rig could handle this game at 60 fps on the lowest settings as it seems to handle other online games pretty well.

You can always try to lower your game resolution as a temporary solution. However, if you do plan on playing games for the foreseeable future, it’s time for a hardware upgrade.

In your case, I’d go for a full Mobo-CPU-GPU-RAM refresh. PSU depends on age/quality of your current one, but it’ll most likely be necessary to get a new one. Adding an SSD will greatly increase the actual working speed (start-up, loading times, …).

Hey trip,

You might get an i5 (i7 is overkill for GW2 and only gives you like+1-3 fps).
I agree on the GTX970, or even GTX980 now you’re saving €100,- on your processor!
Your RAM is fine, don’t change it!

A sidenote:
GW2 isn’t optimised to the latest hardware, meaning you will always have framedrops in heavy crowded area’s. Zerg fights and Tequatl aren’t even the worst thing you can encounter in this game.

Try doing the Daily Achievement for a low zone World Boss.
Your FPS will drop under 20-25 guaranteed no matter your hardware.

i5 is plenty for GW2.

I run an i5 3570K on a Z77 with SSD, 8GB RAM and the same vid card as you GTX 660 2GB. Typically at 60 with everything on high except for I think shadows.

Start with mobo and CPU (i5) and see if that gets you to where you want to be. SSD will also get you faster startup and load times. If you feel it’s not enough then get a new vid card, but it’s probably not necessary.

Alright then. Judging from the post I guess I just need to save up for some better hardware then lol….. I’ll start with getting the i5 first then. Thanks for the suggestions.
