Would it be possible to borrow an Incinerator from someone so that I could save the style and transmute a weapon with it?

That isn’t possible. To unlock a skin you have to equip the item (or salvage, destroy it or mystic forge it), and by doing so it would then be bound to your account. You would not be able to return it to the owner.
