I have seen a Hulk, an Optimus Prime, a Spiderman, many Sailor Moon’s… sure there are Ironman’s too.

Not included in the game. I’ve seen a few posts (in reddit, youtube, and these very forums) in which people have outlined how they’ve done it.

For those unfamiliar with the term, “Iron Man” is a style of play that hearkens back to the original computer RPGs: if you die, you have to start over from scratch. A few single player games in the last two decades have come out with the option to reset your characters automatically and you get an achievement if you ‘finish’ without dying.

There are several styles of Iron Man.

• Live Off the Land (can only use gear that you find, nothing from vendors or auction/trading houses).
• Impoverished (can sell stuff to vendors and spend that coin; can’t use the account’s currency otherwise).
• Adult Ed or Veteran or … no consistent name (don’t start counting until your character is max level with max gear, so e.g. in GW2, you start at L80 using tomes)
• Hard Mode or Incautious or Risky Business (you do things like dungeons and otherwise put your character into danger, rather than doing safe things such as starter zones).

I think some of these are too tedious to worry about in MMOs. They are certainly all challenging and potentially fun with the right attitude.

Probably the best way to do it then is to make a free account.

It’s seperate from your main account so you’re starting from scratch and you can’t use the TP for most things (except basic crafting materials) so you have to obtain everything yourself.

yep, making a free second account for this is better, that way any unlock you did isn’t there yet.

A cool challenge would be to get from 1-80 purely as a pacifist (not counting the initial event where you have to beat the boss to leave the tutorial zone). So no weapons, no fighting, no killing. Only harvesting, mining, logging, crafting, exploration, non-combat parts heart quests and events and any other way you can get experience without fighting.

Any non-combat skills like blinks, stealth and swiftness are fine.

Also, no in-direct killing, so you can’t use pets to fight mobs and you can’t team up with a friend who fights for you. No EXP should be gained through the death of another being.

A couple of people have posted blog accounts of their experience as a pacifist. You can get to L80 (without crafting or fighting) by exploring maps and doing the hearts that have a non-combat option. It’s really hard to do, even if you’re willing to restart after a death.

And I agree that creating a free account is a great idea, since the game won’t give you a medal (or an achievement point) for doing this, so it’s really just between you and yourself whether you succeed under your own goals.

I know what the OP means…but I just had to add this…my Engi…Tony Stark…kind of a Steam-Punk-esqu Iron Man

Back in dark age of camelot…I max leveled a toon on what would be called an Iron Man pvp server….it was hell with all the lowbie ganking….never again…..lol
