Q:
Is Chronomancer worth creating and playing
A:
Yes, I think it is. Especially because of the sheer survivability I have in the raid environment. I also take her to WvW and help portal golems and people around as necessary. Additionally, alacrity works really well on all of the siege types to speed up captures or aid in quicker trebuchet/cannon/arrow cart attacks.
However, if you are expecting to do a lot of damage, it is not the class for you. Next to Ranger, they have some of the weakest power damage. Sadly, their condi is only barely starting to improve but it is still sub par when you see the output from a condi reaper, engineer, revenant, or ranger (especially in WvW). Also, the greatsword damage is miserable so you will want sword/sword or sword/shield. Maybe sword/focus to pull people off the towers and walls. That will put you in front-line melee and relying on those survivability skills.
As for PvP, I only take the meta classes there (reaper, dd, Rev) but the good mesmers can do a lot, it is just not my thing.
Jenna Gracen – Scrapper && Merit Sullivan – Guardian
Daenerys Ceridwen – Druid && Vexia Gracen – Chronomancer
I find Chronomancer to be best in a group environment. There’s a lot of support (alacrity, quickness, etc) and crowd control (gravity well). I personally do not run around in wvw much but unless there are many portals popping up it’s always a useful utility. The survivability is good if you syngergize the shatter skills with healing/condi removal traits. The damage is decent if you play it right; I’m not too experienced with mesmer so I was struggling to get a good tempo.
I love Mesmers and my Chromo’s. While building up the toon I use Superior Rune of the Traveler to gain speed, once you get the Chromo line/traits you can actually select 25% speed boost then switch to the Rune of your choice. I have been using the Superior Rune of the Chronomance and loving it. I run in PvE, PvP, and WvW and seems to be able to hold my own very well.
Good luck I would say you will love it.
Chronomancer is core in all organized pve groups, can’t say much about other game types unfortunately because Im not experienced in them. Personal dps isn’t the greatest but openworld isn’t really that difficult to begin with.
Chrono is one of the most versatile professions.
Currently meta for sPvP, ciritical support for raids (requires moderate to high skill to play effectively though) and always welcomed in dungeon and fractal groups.
Teleport chrono or mesmer is always a req in PvP
As warrior main i can tell you i seldom go out with out my trusty clockwork specialist guildied
They are usefull, helpfull, versatile and many people i know have a blast playing it. Give it a try buuuuut also give it time. Get used to the mechanic and your possible roles.
Have fun!
Yes, it is. I absolutely love the playstyle, it’s fun enough to solo, and you’re always valuable in groups. Plus, they have unique utility.
Give it a go!
To play mes in open world, especially if you intend to map complete, I suggest getting a second set of armour with runes of the traveler or runes of speed. Add a second weapon withna sigil of speed. Use that almosat all the time in open world and swap for hard champions. Works for guardian too.
It is.
The reasons are endless but to keep things short; tons of utility everywhere.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
