Is Gambling Allowed?
Also very curious about this.
Not right now… maybe something they will add in the future, put maybe with some NPC’s.

It’s not allowed right now? Or there are no forms of gambling right now?
I hope not … in other games I’ve played gambling was just a way of scamming other players. I think it would be very hard to run an “honest” gambling game.

I know it a common way of scamming, but in other games, I just really enjoy hosting a fun gambling game, and I am loyal to all customers, I know it’s hard to trust though.
I havn’t found a rule saying it’s not allowed so I’m guessing it is, as WoW clearly stated it in their rules. I just can’t find a way to host something, there is no /roll so, idk what I could do. Anyone have any ideas?
ha, those gambling debts — hey, my check is in the mail. Really it is.
I don’t see it working with a trading-post based economy. Cuz you’d be doing it all by mail, what a hassle and not much fun.
There’s no way to generate a random number in-game.
What sortof game wouldn’t allow it, I doubt the devs are taking the hold your hand approach. We did pay money for this after-all
I have an idea for a decent gambling game inside the game. Honestly I think this community is one of the best to have such games as everyone I have ever traded with has been trust worthy. If anyone wants to beta test my game with me on darkhaven, we can play for small wagers
PS. I have a full proof logging system should there be any disputes in my game

I’m not sure, but it looks like something you shouldn’t do or avoid. Especially because when someone losses too much it’s easier for them to mark you for scam or vice-versa. The Code of Conduct doesn’t cover this on clear terms. (From what I understand)

You could still hold games, like hide and seek in Lion’s Arch or something. Just can’t gamble.
I dont think they can enforce no gambling when this jerk char npc can take all of my money (50 silver at the time) as a wager for seeing how far he can launch a cow >< stupid popup window with a timer made me panic so I clicked something and then i was out of money to even port around

Hmm.
Engineer Elixirs have random effects. We might make a silly “guess the effect when I throw the elixir” kind of gamble. Kind of a lame idea since, say, Toss Elixir B only grants 4 possible outcomes, but…dunno, just throwing the idea out there.

Hey everyone, I have a quick question. I was wondering if gambling is allowed? Incase you’re unsure the gambling I am asking about here is an example.
IN World of Warcraft, I would play a game. where players would trade me some money, say like 10g, then if they did /roll and rolled a number between 55-100 I would double their money. So if they traded 25g, and rolled a 84, then I would trade them back 50g, if they rolled like a 36, I get to keep their money.
I know GW2 doesn’t have a /roll feature, or at least I haven’t found it, but if I were to find something similar like this, am I allowed to do it? I didn’t realize it was against World of Warcraft’s rules, they allow NO forms of gambling. I searched GW2’s rules and I can’t find anything so, just want to make sure though.
Thanks!
It makes me sad that people play games that are that explicitly rigged against them.
When first we practice to deceive.
Its not Really Rigged they still have a high chance of winning and he needs that 5% to make any profit
55 Loss rate is very good compared to most gambleing methods
were its like 1 or lower
Hopefully its against the rules, I think its lame when people in other games do this.

So because you think its lame, it should be against the rules? Why does it matter if other people are enjoying their game the way they want to enjoy it?

He doesn’t have 5%, he has 10% because he took 5% from the other side as well (he wins 55% and loses 45%).
There are some casino games like Keno (bingo) and slot machines that are hilariously stacked against players, but many casino games have house edges far lower than the one he set. Roulette has it at 5.26% for a simple bet on red or black. Most games of Blackjack are below .5% (depends on number of decks used and table rules and such). He set his edge at 10%. That means that he wins 22.22% more often than the player.
On top of that the disadvantage of his game is blatantly obvious. Most gambling games (especially the ones with a huge house edge) obfuscate the fact that the player is at such a disadvantage, but with his game he made it blatantly obvious that anyone that played it was a sucker.
I didn’t say that he was a terrible person for doing it, I only said that it made me sad to think that people would want to do something that is so clearly unfair to them.

It’s been a while on my part but in WoW couldn’t you just type /roll 55-100 and win every time? Or if you were rolling you could have rolled /roll 1-54? Hmm… I don’t remember, anyone else know?
Edit: “You may not violate any local, state, national, or international laws or regulations”, where I come from online gambling is illegal, does this count?

In WoW, if you do a “custom roll”(with a custom range of numbers), it’ll show in your emote message. So everyone would know if you were cheating.
It’d show something like:
MBOmnis has rolled 82! (55-100)
If you just did a normal roll, it’d be:
MBOmnis has rolled 82!

Gambling is allowed though In-game NPC 2 that I know of one a Charr in ashlands that will gamble with the player for 10-50 silver/copper (forget witch) and another in Lions Arch Moa Race’s outside Gambling from player to player tho would fall under terms of Scamming and should be avoided as between false scam reports and legit ones give’s Anet more work for something that’s a bad habit so I would advise to maybe stick to the In-game methods.
i always thought the Unidentified Dyes in the Trading Post were sort of like gambling, but i don’t think it should be included – if you don’t want a dropped item, ping it in the chat, then mail it to the player that wants it.
Look, there are laws about gambling. Very detailed, heavily enforced laws in most of the US. That’s because there is tremendous money to be made in gambling.
Other countries also have laws about gambling. The thing is, with an MMO, the MMO has to honor the gambling rules of every single country it runs in. Usually, the easiest way to do that is to disallow gambling explicitly. If they don’t have a specific rule, then that is probably due to their inability to imagine a way for you to gamble in the game (I admit, I’m scratching my head too and I can’t imagine what you have in mind).
If you just want to get your gamble on, head over to the cattlepult in Diessa Plateau. You can bet some money on where the cows will land. Otherwise, please go gamble elsewhere., somewhere that supports it and where it is unlikely to have unexpected negative consequences.
I wish they allowed 1vs1 dueling. You could bet on that.
Why? Why would you want to do this other than to extract in-game currency from addicts and ignorant people, which would obviously be a bad thing and shouldn’t be allowed with the teen rating this game has. If it would actually be purely for the fun of it why don’t you just set it up with an even chance for both parties.
There is gambling in GW2 already. I found a heart/event? where you had to train with the cows. The quest guy turned you into a cow and you did the event. Once it finished they had cow races and you could put down 25 silver on a cow to win.
