Is Guild Wars 2 worthy?
Hey, sorry you’ve had so many issues. Hang in there though. There’s a lot of magical moments to be had in this game. If you can find a good bunch of people, it’s even better. PC gaming is always apt to these problems. ArenaNet is a pretty fair (but not perfect) company when it comes to customer service. They’ve by no means ditched their game. See what other players can do to help you, give ArenaNet a few days to respond, and wait it out.
Best of luck!
So basically what you are saying is you tried playing the game for a week, your computer cant run it so its obviously the companies fault not your computer or anything and you arrived to the forum the minor amount of the players who complain about everything they can think of and arrived to the darkside of raging on arenanet
But i’ll be nice. I reccomend a Geforce Gtx 650 i could not run the game either when i got the game then when i got the card even though $150 is pricey i never expierence lagg even when i had an area filled with like 300 people and if i disconnect its very very uncommon.
Oh and also you wont get a refund persay the code that activates your account makes your disc garbage to anyone but you.

I have been, myself and the guild I have joined have spent hours going over every possible aspect of the issue, they have even helped me clear events and such to lvl while I was barely able to connect.. like I said the game and people are good, it’s the lack of customer/tech support. Infact I still don’t see any evidence it even exists at all..
It is the company’s fault to an extent, because it’s already been established that GW2 is poorly optimized. That said, I can still run it with medium settings on a 2y/o laptop, so though optimization isn’t great, the game still isn’t all that tasking.
I haven’t had OP’s freezing and lag issues, neither have people I know who play (our issues are of a different nature), so it’s either a computer or an internet problem, not something inherent to the game.
I’ve seen some threads floating around about how to set up your computer to run the game more smoothly, maybe OP could find some answers there.
I don’t have much to say on the support of GW2 because I haven’t needed it, but I did have a problem in GW1 (account hack) which went on over the course of a long weekend, and I received prompt replies even then, which was not something I had expected at all.
Well maybe i was wrong then. Shoulda put up some links or something to reduce the chance of confusing players who know the forum is full of mostly raging dwellers who make excuses. But im still strongly thinking you just cant run the game and thats the only problem. I could run the game perfectly too it just didnt play properly til that card. But whatever doesnt effect me in anyway since mine runs perfectly.
However the refund part wouldnt happen thats what the codes for to prevent that.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/error-code-7-11-3-189-101/page/19 almost 20 pages, going back 4+ months and not a word from TS about the issue. All types of computers, internets etc..
but enough of that.. thats not the topic… I was just wondering if this was typical of the company or I just happen to be the poor minority.
Odd, if its giving an error code then they will likely know whats causing it, that’s the whole point of error codes.
If they aren’t responding it would indicate they have no way of fixing it.
In my opinion Aranet is smaller compared to other companies, you pay a lot less for a game aswell with tons more fun,… ofcourse you will need to learn to have a bit more patcience. If you take a look at the updates, which so far has been a month to month thing, I don’t think you can complain.
Ofcourse you have a problem and would like to get it fixed, before posting try to make sure you’ve done all you could. Update all your drivers etc,..
But in the end the decision is yours, nobody is going to force you to play, although it would be a shame if you decided not to. I hope you find the right answer,…
Goodluck !
There are a bunch of responses form ANet on that thread.
Firstly, are you using wired or wireless? If using wireless, are you using a network card or USB external wireless card? Have you tried using an ethernet cord?
The first few pages have responses from ANet as well as their solutions.
Also, try deleting the Local.dat file and redownloading GW2 and playing with the default specs.
However, from what I am seeing, it seems like a typical packet drop issue on your end

@ OP- be realistic. No subs = no need to make this game perfect always.
Anet is a localized company that wants to do everything “their way”, so with that said let’s not be ignorant and think that the arenet devs owes players anything. As long as the game is playable to the “majority of their active players” (80%+), your problems (OP) are not worth prioritizing their scarced resources upon.
No disrespect what so ever man, I’m just trying to allow you to understand that games with no subs come at a price (don’t act like it’s realistic for a game that’s taken away the subscription fees to provide you the exact/better care as sub games).
Also, let’s not be foolish to think that we have anything on Anet. Subscribers have short strings on the game developers who are servicing their subscriptions…. we don’t subscribe so that means our strings (if any at all) on the Anet devs are much longer.
Look at things (OP) from a realistic point of view, so you can go do what you gotta do. For myself I’ve personally kept the game because I think the price on this game is just right.
Feel free to make the decision for yourself (although I would warn you, the longer you hold on to the game the harder it is to get a refund… so better make your decision sooner rather than later!)

My suggestion is to turn down the graphics. My friend was getting kicked all the time when he first got the game but after we turned his graphics down the game became stable.

Usually, lag issues (whether it is internet or your computer) is usually on the player side. A good way to check this is to ask others on the map or in the same dungeon whether they’re experiencing any lag too.
I usually play very smoothly in most of the game though sometimes when I do AC dungeons, I experienced very severe lag (and I have a suspicion that it is the SoS server for the particular ac dungeon which bugs out either for me only or for random players, I notice if I get other ppl from other servers to start it, the lag is gone).
Anyways back to the point, Anet has great customer service, don’t buy into the hate that people give on these games. As people have said, these people are a minority and will are spoilt unreasonable players who will do anything to taint their name. Anet has a few bugs here and there and I agree that some of them should have been addressed by now given it is half way into the year. However, most of the big ones have been address and I sincerely hope the coming Jan/feb update, will iron out most of the remaining bugs and not just introduce new content.
maybe try play the game at a friends house? see how it runs there? I personally can run this game on low settings on my average speced laptop just fine (I notice after I reformat it ran even smoother!) If you’re really looking for a refund, from what I’ve read, this company has an excellent no hassle refund response too.

I personally feel subscription based game have the complete opposite effect. What subs really do is make the player obliged to pay whether they enjoy the game or not if they want to play. Therefore, e.g a certain B company would have a tighter grip on their players even if they treat them badly because unless they really treat them so bad they want to quit, the players will usually suck it up and continue playing the game.
Here on the other hand, Anet relies on their gem store and players satisfaction to support the game. If anet has bad customer service, then players can choose to NOT support the game by not buying gems but still be able to play the game. Therefore, anet is at a lost here since the player is not bringing them in more revenue but still be able to play their game. Thus, customer satisfaction is pretty high on the list. To be honest, the gem store probably earns way more than subscription based games because of the gambling nature that a lot of players have out there. This is totally fine too, because some players can’t afford to spend 6+ hours a day to play the game so why not use their 1 hour of pay to buy some gold instead of playing 6 hours a day to earn that gold then enjoy the content they want.

I leveled 3 characters to 80, and have a 74. I find the combat in GW2 non-communicative…that is to say the spells don’t “speak” to me like some other mmo’s. I find the endgame extremely grindy and wv3 gets old fast when its the same ole same ole. Zerg vs small group….
The classes seem similar to me, at least in builds…they are kind of all the same. The community for the most part seems nice, but there seems to be less of a community.
Personally I went back to wow, but not in my old ways. I have a new found appreciation for the game in its content, polish, ease of access for solo or parties and content that is much more difficult in end game than GW2. I also did not use my old account. I started wow fresh..fresh characters, fresh perspective and chose to level a different race in a different zone and actually read the quests. Its a lot more fun then I remember.
I do miss my Asura…lil guy has so much life in him and I want to play him but the game just does not do anything for me.
Some people like Gw2, some don’t care for it. I like certain aspects of it, but dislike others. I actually missed the healer/tank/DPS trinity…its fun to be healing on my priest in dungeons in wow and I was never much of a healer guy. To make the game more palatable, also did research into the wow data centers, server populations and raid progression. I could not find the “perfect” server from my local data center, but I did find one that I am enjoying with people who are willing to help and I have met more in game friends in 5 days then I have in gw2 since launch.
IMO, give gw2 a try, play it for awhile and see if it does it for you, if not then I would find a new perspective in a different mmo that you have previously enjoyed.
I’m sorry to hear that you have technical problems with the game.
The customer support is usually very decent – I only had a problem once, and that was actually my GPU dying, but I got fairly prompt answers anyway. When I had a hacked account issue back in GW1, the support was wonderfully considerate, too.
However, if you receive no (satisfactory) answer from support, it IS very likely that they simply don’t know the answer. From what you described, it does sound like the problem lies with either yur system or your connection :/ You’re not from Australia by any chance? I hear they have difficulties with the american based servers all the time…
For me, the game is entirely worth the time. I’ve been playing since the first BWE, and still enjoying the heck out of it
I play using the Mac beta client, which isn’t even a true client – just a wrapped port. Yet I don’t experience and game-breaking lag, fps drops, or anything at high settings. This sounds like an issue with your computer or internet connection, not the game.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
Connection issues are almost always nothing to do with the game/server.
Its usualy client side. .or clients ISP.
Open a support ticket. .posting on the tech forums wont get u a reply form the staff, that forum is for players to advise players ..atleast thats what its turned into since Anet rarely responds.

If you have a support ticket that hasn’t been handled in 3 days, I beleive there is a thread where you can post the ticket ID for review. That said, relatively few people have this problem and, given that millions of people do not, the problem does not seem to be on ANet’s end, which is why they can only offer limited, if any, help.
The one time I had to contact support, I had a response from a person stating it was being escalated in 5 minutes. A full response arrived about 4 hours later.
Resource permitting… find a friend that lives nearby and doesn’t mind troubleshooting; isolating the problem is a lot easier when you have a known-working computer/account/connection.
Accounts can have connectivity issues if a hacker has compromised the account (I don’t know if that would fall under this error code or not).
Malware, drivers, in-use ports, firewalls, antivirus, etc. can cause bizarre issues on your computer. I’ve had issues with a power supply that couldn’t handle heat + load, but could handle either with no issue; make sure your computer has been thoroughly de-dusted including the various motherboard chipsets.
Bad cables, router ports, routing settings, ISP throttling, etc. can all manifest with the same symptoms you’re describing. Mismatched MTU size and a crappy ISP (I’m looking at you Bell South DSL*, the bane of my tech support career) can also have some strange issues.
*Bell South DSL was infamous where I worked 7 years ago for having a MTU size hard-coded in their routers but truncating packets to about 80% of that on their end.

My suggestion is to turn down the graphics. My friend was getting kicked all the time when he first got the game but after we turned his graphics down the game became stable.
I play on minimal graphics on this computer (it’s a few years old, I could run higher but like performance over graphics. It more then passes for the recommended and minimum requirements tho.
As has been said, the error code, and it’s cause are what causes these issues. I don’t lag when this is not happening, in fact I can play upwards of an hour at a time with no issue, perfectly… but then I start lagging horridly, npcs stop responding, etc… then it crashes and get the screen..
anyway.. why am I saying this again here… said it all on the bug forums, this is not the place for it…
Im surprised to hear some people say that GW2 is considered unoptimised. Ive had the exact opposite experience..and a rather surprising one at that. Im playing on a PC i bought in 2009 with no issues.
However, when i bought GW2 i was expecting the absolute worst of trouble in all regards..for me,buying the game and expecting it to run properly was a huge gamble. But i guess i got lucky as it runs fine on medium-high settings across the board..except for extreme WvWvW situations with tons of things going on at the same time.
Even then though, its still playable. My point being..the last thing i would call the GW2 engine is unoptimised. I hopped on the hype-wagon for SWTOR leading up to its release, bought the CE and everything..and my comp could barely run it lol.
That MMO has one of kittentiest engines ive ever experienced in a game to be honest. Talk about unoptimised lol But i digress..personally,from a pure player perspective on an outdated machine,i find GW2 to be well optimised.
But thats just me and this subject is naturally divisive anyways.
the spells don’t “speak” to me like some other mmo’s.
Heavy stuff man.
