Q:

Said the Topic.

I have went through on the Wiki searching for the legendary weapons for my class and i realise the stats are only Power, Vitality and Toughness.

I need Condition Damage!

So can someone please enlighten me, Why is Legendary Weapons worth crafting given the stats. And if it’s used to reskin on another weapon, would the animation/ Graphic remains as of the legendary weapon?

Moving Forward. Isn’t it too much to do just for a skin? Yes it’s an awesome skin. But it’s still a skin. I am sure people would work their kitten out, if the stats of the weapon is awesome. Like better than exotics. Because clear now. it is not better than exotics.

Legendary weapons at the moment are just status symbols. You are not being prevented from getting a legendary and transmuting it to a weapon you like for the stats. If I recall correctly, however, the legendary weapons are getting a stat upgrade to be on par with the ascended gear that is being added. And I do believe if you transmute, the animation will remain.

Well Fellas, Thanks for the feedback. But i am not here for a debate. Just some advise. Because based on the current stats of legendary weapons, it is really not worth doing. But a sign of status. i agree.

Probably i have not hang out much in Lion’s Arch. but i don’t see anyone with legendary. And alot of people in my server are saying Legendary weapons are not worth doing at all. I am confused. So they have something in game that you have to spend so much time and gold but not worth doing?

I’d walked all over the casino gathering ash trays, bottles, and chairs to make staves to put into the Mystic Slot Machine. It’s great fun! ;P
ok, i did do this about 12 times, and no precursor. (expected. merely tried my luck a few times) Tried Jormag now and then too.
If I then get a desired precursor from this method (as opposed to random weapon chance from Dragon or Orr chests), then I have to run around the casino collecting more ash trays, bottles, chairs, tables, and rare microphones after the band plays a set that combine into gifts that are part of the package toward legendary. hehhehhehhehheh
I’ll wait for new PvE maps and possibly new styles from recipes or items from heart vendors…. will new PvE maps increase the requirement of areas to cover 100% map completion later on???? (@ least i got it done on one character of my 3 rank 80s, before an expansion and possibly more Vistas, etc. Seems unlikely they’d not consider the 100% aspect… considering there are none in Southsun Cove. hmmmmm)

No, the stats aren’t worth it. Legendaries stand out with its visual effects/sounds/animations. Refer to the wikia and youtube.

You also wont see many people with legendaries.

Awful idea. You just basically said you want legendaries to be compulsary. The idea was always they would be cosmetic, so if you chase after them hoping for a ingame boost then more fool you.

legendaries are more common than you think. i run fractals every night and i ONLY pug. there are no repeat players in my parties and i get at least 1 legendary holder in my fractal runs. usually, i get 1 in each run and if i’m really lucky, i get to see twilight and bifrost together in the same party.

i also saw someone with a sunrise and twilight who refused to go ranged because he liked melee. hmm.

aside from ruining 20 dailies, they do look nice and are much more commonplace than the proposed 5-10% of the population having them. if i stand at the bank/mf long enough, i can usually see 3-4 pass by in a span of 10m.

is it worth it? yes, if you like special effects and need a long term goal. if you’re doing it to look cool in front of other players…sorry, but most people don’t care or you have the wrong idea…

hey OP ask yourself simple thing …

do you like the skin of legendary and reskin of some abilities?

if yes is it worth farming same stuff for 500 + hours + spending 100 – 400 g on precursor?
if yes then do it if no then wait for ascended weapons
but the way this game is heading that will be at least 400 hours grind too >.>

edit: also I would also like you to know that obtaining legendary on this game is not achievement or accomplishment probably even monkey could grind legendary if you feed it enough bananas. and with exploits and daddy’s credit cards there is no legendary in it … except legendary grind.

if they introduce some scavenge hunt then it might become legendary

I’ve pug’ed fractals a lot, other dungeons too. 90% of the time I had some legendary wielder in party (mostly twilight). And 99% of those players just plain sucks.
Those warriors (signet build) trying to melee everything and dying all the time. Those guardians using only GS all the time.
That’s why for now when I see twilight on someone = omg another noob.

I wish legendary weapons where really legendary. Right now Legendary weapons are nothing more then a grind on time for karma and a lot of gold. I kind of think the person who labeled these weapons as legendary where 5th graders as nothing about acquiring one is a legendary task, hence why even though i have the money and a god awful amount of karma I won’t get one cause i don’t really feel like its a true accomplishment.
Now give me a dungeon that 4 or 5 times harder then the hardest dungeon in game and make it always changing either everyday or maybe every few days and i get an item that i can use to get say 1 of 4 pieces of a legendary weapon to craft in the forge. That would truly be a status symbol. The game as it is now is becoming no better then most pay to play games where who ever has the most time and money can have all the cool stuff. I mean come on i have run across 5 websites now who actually sell legendary weapons(reported all 5 of them but they still in business).
I love this game but now the spark is just fading away. Anet shouldn’t be making 5th grade mistakes like this. To acquire a legendary weapon should be something of legend and soul bound on acquire for that matter. Was stupid to make everything but the precursor weapon soul bound then to turn around and let the finished product be sold on TP or mailed off.
Anet you guys really didn’t think a lot of what you did through did you. You guys should have take more time with the game then releasing it so soon(I loved you guys so i would have waited that is for sure). Game came out half broke, Halloween update and events all broke a lot of the time, and lets not forget how bad Lost shores was. I don’t know whats going on but you guys are losing your fans. I see less and less people on my server everyday(spent 2 days running around 5 SBI server maps and barely saw 10 people on them). Sorry for the rant. I’m positive i will get some flame for it even though i love Guild Wars, but i just had to speak my mind. Anet will probably not even respond or maybe they will but it doesn’t look like they are really take the fans serious anymore.

It’s not worth it to show-off how “Legendary” you are, because although some things aren’t purchasable (map completion, WvW badges, SPs, etc.), one could in theory spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars in acquiring them, which is not “Legendary”, but I honestly don’t mind if people do it. I just won’t think of a player as awesome just because their character has a Legendary weapon-I am not easily convinced like that, quite honestly. I prefer playing with nice people with few achievements than with arrogant show-offs. HOWEVER, wanting/getting a Legendary is NOT wrong, nor does it mean that such player is being arrogant-it’s just clearly unnecessary, and I myself will finish such impossible quest “when it happens”, taking it a day at a time, and not worrying too much about grinding for it. I don’t even like most of them, quite honestly, especially vs the huge money that has to be sacrificed in order to finally get them. Some normal skins are quite nice enough, and the only one really good thing about them is that they are reportedly guaranteed to be max stats tier when/if they ever introduce Ascended weapons-is this worth the huge grinding pain and sacrifice? Maybe to some, not to others, and I am indifferent either way, as I won’t be grinding to death to get them-whenever it will happen, it will. I don’t think one should want them just for “Legendary status”, but more if you would really love the weapon skin on your character, for what’s the point of having a Legendary weapon you are not really in love with (especially after gathering all those mats and money!), and who cares about what others think about yourself, anyway?

Totally worth crafting simply for the skin. Hate seeing people with the same weapon gear everywhere I look. With legendary, you know you’re part of a very small % of people with it, so odds are you won’t see people with it very often. I like that.

Legendaries, as far as my understanding, are supposed to be best in slot items like another person said. So once you get it you will never have to get another weapon again.

I AM curious on how that works with transmutes. Will those stats get boosted too, even though the stats are from a different weapon?

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

Legendary weapons should have a concrete mod called:

TImeless Decay

It will allow you to semi-phase out of combat but not entirely and during that process you will be absorbing some very minor damage (not all the damage which means you can still be hit) and gaining slight buffers. During the phase animation, you will be unable to perform any actions at all. After the phase ends, your 2ndary skillset is made available but your main attacks will still be unavailable for some time.

This allows the character equipping legendary status to be able to move slightly more freely around the battlefield, as a slight escape tool, or for a more minor offensive where for example a warrior could absorb some more damage and close the distance between him and the ranger while still having access to his skillslots in order to close even more distance, while absorbing a little bit more damage. His main attacks during and after the absorb will still be unable to connect though, therefore he would be relying on his skillsets to control until his main attacks become available again.

This is pretty balanced, and is pretty metrical in nature since he would be sacrificing his main attacks and only have access to his 2ndaries. If he were able to still attack after the phase animation ends while absorbing damage that would obviously be a direct conflict of interest since he would pretty much just be absorbing damage. But since he is absorbing damage and then sacrificing his main attack, he is then relying on his control skills to gain more footing. This counterplay of absorbing damage, while not being able to dish out any especially a short while even after the animation has ended (which is important because if it were only during the phase then he could merely use it as a gap-closer which would be OP) is perfectly balanced. Thus this special legendary technique can also be used as an offensive “time-staller.”

As an escape tool, you will still be unable to escape too effectively, because your action bars will be locked out. All you will be doing is running and absorbing a little damage.
Note that this shouldn’t be a separate skill in and of itself, but it should be only for legendaries.

Edit: Also, the more you use this skill, the more it drains your Legendary Weapon’s energy bar, after it is completely drained it will require a small fee to recharge. This acts as the third gold sink source.

This makes elite players have to consider how to manage their funds while still being able to contract Timeless Decay. Since players with Legendaries will usually be rich anyhow but still have to make back the small fee through this final gold sink.

The way the game is set up now, its not a fun journey to get what is required for the legendary. It is a fun journey to reach 100 % world completion….but the reward is not worth it unless your going to continue on to get a legendary. I think 100 % world completion alone should include other in game rewards that an level 80 player can’t get anywhere else.

So for the level 80 player much more needs to be added to the game. I want treasures and want to show off my treasures! And i want to have fun, not frustration, getting my treasures. I don’t want to be inside a 1-3 hour dungeon for group grinding, i want to use the big beautiful world Anet made. And i don’t want to have to find a group to kill champions/mobs that take a long time to kill and get no treasure for it.

Legendaries will have Ascended stats, most probably. However, Ascended weapons will PROBABLY be easier to acquire, so in that regards, I understand your point. I would just go for Legendary as it is right now, however, BECAUSE Ascended items as acquired in-game RIGHT NOW require similar mats than those of a Legendary item, making the road towards a Legendary even tougher (not “closing the gap” by any stretch of the imagination, even if that was the original intent.) I rather save those hard to find mats on the supposed “ultimate weapon”, rather than on a temp, UNLESS you certainly are 100% that you won’t be getting a Legendary, in which case all that matters would be Ascended items (as seems to be in your case.)

I am a casual with 1,100+ hours, and I still don’t have a Legendary, and I don’t think I will any time soon (probably in a year or two if I ever get it?) I am not whining, nor saying that what you achieved is wrong at all, but just letting you know that your experience is probably on the extreme minority, given that I rarely notice anyone wielding Legendaries. Thus, time by itself means nothing, as I have just chosen to enjoy the game in other ways other than striving to get a Legendary (note, this is not a personal attack, and congrats on such an early acquisition of your weapon of choice.)

Legendary became too common and most players who got their one will have that one only due to abusing past exploits and unable to actually farm the gold legitimately.

Forget about that, now the top 5% got 2 legendaries or more.

By the way, lots of players actually DO care if you own a legendary or not.
Here’s a few funny moments:
- Praise and awe by 14 years old kids.
- People taking off their weapon and putting their back next to mine to imagine how it will look on them.
- /bow.
- Negative assumptions about my personal life or in-game play style.
- Players following me rather than the commander on field in WvWvW.

I’m pretty sure other legendary owners and especially the shiny ones (e.g Sunrise / Twilight) experienced the same.

Yeah… If you have the very sad definition of “awesome” as “having something that no one else has”. If you have the more mature definition of “awesome” as “having something I enjoy, regardless of what others think”, Legendaries are as awesome today as they were on release, and would continue to be so even if every single player in the game had one. You should not look to others to be happy about yourself; but that’s a lesson that comes with age, more than with anything else.

Depends. As an Asuran Mesmer, my weapons are tiny, so the showing off factor isn’t really there for me. Although if i played any of the other races, i’d probably work towards The Bifrost as it should show up on all my clones. Rainbows everywhere.

Are they worth crafting? Nobody can answer that but yourself.
Do you like the skin? Do you want a long term goal? Are you willing to grind for hours? Do you want to stand out in a crowd?
Ask yourself these questions, and you should probably look in the weapon locker and you might see a weapon skin that’s almost as good or better than the legendary skin.

I am working on mine. Not because I need it, but because with 100% world completion and top-tier gear, I need something else to be a goal, and I don’t really want to just endlessly grind dungeons. Admittedly, the difficulty scale of this particular quest is less “difficult” and more “grindy/annoying”, but whatever – I played Everquest 1 back in the day, this is a piece of cake compared to the epic quests there

It’s a skin (for now), if you like it, and feel you want to put in the work for it, do so. If not, then do that too ^__^

I still feel like there’s probably going to be a level cap increase this year along with the Canthan expansion.

So… Crafting current legendaries will give a level 80 legendary.

They’ll likely introduce new level 90 legendaries. So it all depends on if you really like the skin.

I, personally, don’t really care all that much for any of them.

People want legendaries because they look nice and they make you stand out. When everyone has legendaries then that doesn’t look unique at all. The ‘WOW’ factor is gone.

And then Anet would be forced to make another tier of legendaries, and more people would cry…

I’ve spent 700 hours on this game so far and I have my legendary. It’s humorous when a casual with 200 hours thinks he deserves a legendary just as much as those who actually worked hard and deserved it.

I am a casual with 1,100+ hours, and I still don’t have a Legendary, and I don’t think I will any time soon (probably in a year or two if I ever get it?) I am not whining, nor saying that what you achieved is wrong at all, but just letting you know that your experience is probably on the extreme minority, given that I rarely notice anyone wielding Legendaries. Thus, time by itself means nothing, as I have just chosen to enjoy the game in other ways other than striving to get a Legendary (note, this is not a personal attack, and congrats on such an early acquisition of your weapon of choice.)

whoa whoa dude casual with 1000+ hours? really? not your casual any more your playing hard core style considering. Anyone could do the math and realize your playing more then a full time job at this game. Im casual with less then 500 hours played since game release + head start.

I don’t understand why Anet didn’t make it like they did with armours in GW1. There were the expensive but affordable feel-good 15k sets, and there was the impossible-to-get FoW set. In GW2 only legendary weapons provide the cool cosmetic effects that other weapons don’t have. They could make a set of weapons with less special effects but still stand out from the other normal weapons, right?

Owning a legendary is nothing more than the publicly visible result of a tremendous time and/or money investment into a game.

If they made specific legendary skins only available via specific content (e.g. a series of legendary difficulty quests/bosses/events), that can only be beaten by a really well coordinated group with sound tactics and a high level of skill and that can not be sold at the TP, I would really feel compelled to go after a legendary – even if I would never make it and find it a nut too hard to crack. At least, I would be really impressed upon meeting someone who managed to acquire such a weapon – today, the only thing I feel is compassion ;-)

It’s basically the same mechanic already in place for dungeons: To get the skin, you have to beat the content – no matter how many time and/or money you invest.
