Is Ranger visually boring to play?
Personally don’t see it as an issue but each to their own I guess, in terms of the Longbow and Shortbow they are as they are visually yes, they don’t change at all later game.
How ever if you haven’t tried them already the Greatsword has some nice animations and visuals to it, as well as the Sword
I have tried the short blade thingy and I must say that I die so fast using melee comparing to bows. Is that normal? As soon I start to melee-fight, my hp goes down in big chunks…
How are you fighting? Combat in GW2 is about using skills actively, moving, and dodging to avoid damage.
Here’s an example of a sword ranger fighting an event boss in melee- pet disabled so I have to handle the aggro myself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zbE4-5KBQTs
(disclaimer 1: please do not click your skills, it’s a bad habit.
disclaimer 2: once you’re used to handling aggro on your own, don’t disable your pet- learn to micro it, since it’s a major part of your support/damage/control.)

I never click on skills, are there some people who do that??
Anyway, it is not visually (key-word of my thread) appealing at all. The game itself is really fun, overall visuals are great, but I am just sooo disappointed about the skill graphics. It’s so boring! (Think of Cabal’s skill visuals for an example, or TERA.)
I’m so disappointed. I have tried to find a good MMO for months and I really thought I’ve finally found it, but yea, for me it’s just un-playable.
Maybe I should try something else? As far as I’ve seen, all classes have these Super Mario-like skills (means that they are so dull and boring and repetitive like Mario’s fireballs.. ).
Try an elementalist. It’s a difficult class, though.
Also, some things about GW2:
-You can move when you attack.
-Skill cast times are extremely small.
-You will need clear sight of an enemy to fight well- in a battle, you MUST watch and read the enemy’s animations and react to them. There’s no tank and no healer to take the brunt of all the attacks in a party.
-Some parts of the game will involve running alongside a hundred other players who are attacking the same target (WvW or world bosses). Even in a five-man group, the animations can be overwhelming together.
For the above four reasons, skill animations pretty much have to be small here. There are actually a lot of neat details in skill animations, but they’re very subtle compared to other MMOs.

What is visually appealing to you?
Visuals is an opinion, not an objective thing, thus nobody can really give you any advice as to what you think will look good.
Try all the classes and stick with what you like.
I thought part of the appeal of the ranger was that gritty, “realistic” visual vibe, compared to other more flashy classes.
I find my ranger to be the best visual class I play. My necro being second. I play and longbow main weapon and secondary with sword and dagger for melee fights.
Some of the Ranger weapons are visually boring. The bows, mainhand axe, dagger. Offhand Axe and Torch to a certain extent as well, they have some effects but they’re generic.
Others are really nice. I love the animal and spirit animal effects on Sword, Greatsword, and Warhorn, as well as the underwater weapons.
Its something I’ve brought up before here on the forums. There seems to be a rather large disconnect between Ranger weapons, some have a distinct nature vibe to them and others are just bland and boring with no theme to them at all. I’d love if they redesigned the visuals of the “blah” ones to match the more interesting ones (and even spruced up some of the less interesting attacks on the better weapons, like Counterattack and Hilt Bash on Greatsword).
Imagine if Barrage looked like a shower of leaves or a swarm of insects. Or if Poison Volley had a spirit Devourer or a spirit Snake attached to it. Crippling Shot could be a cluster of thorny vines. Winter’s Bite could look more like a snowflake or play off the name and have some sort of spirit animal “bite” the opponent at the point of impact (an Ice Wurm perhaps). Crippling Talon should look like a bird. Bonfire could have a spirit Fire Drake that would set the ground on fire.
There are so many possibilities, no reason for half the Ranger weapons to be so boring.
Try sword/torch (sword #3 is visually nice).
And greatsword… (maul has a nice effect)
It seems you did choose ranger because you wanted to use bows, however you want nice animation for bow skills… then your fail was to choose a ranger. Use a warrior instead, the longbow skills shot fire arrows, medium and giant size areas, immobilize, etc. That longbow is really awesome for pve landscape if you are not aiming for meta builds.
Aens / Ellantriel / Nao To Mori / Saelyth. Commander
Guias de Raids en espaƱol / Spanish raiding guides
Get The Dreamer and fire away. It doesn’t get anymore visually satisfying than this.

Magic-based classes are always more visually stunning. Clothies (casters), Engineer (fire & ’splosions), and guardian (magic melee) will be your most visually appealing classes.
Also, try rolling an asura, as their attack animations are much more lively than other races.
