Ok heres my problem i have a level 80 Mesmer which is asura, i want a lev 80 Mesmer human is it worth my time and effort to level it up or should i just stick with my current one. (the main reason i want to change is appearance wise and if any of you have some asura light armor combos i would be willing to have a look).

I did with my Necro. I had a level 80 Sylvari necro but one day when messing around with the Norn character creation I saw and fell in love with the looks of the Norn Necro facial masks. So I bought another character slot and made a Norn. Leveled her to 80 and that’s the one I play. My Sylvari now does a daily ori/ancient wood run in Frostgorge.

A guildie made 2 Mesmers and has them both to 80. One is for WvW (with PVT gear) and the other she uses for PvE. I’ve heard other people doing something similar. They have more than one of the same profession and each one has a different build and gear.

It’s all in what you want to do and what you enjoy doing.

In all seriousness, making a second character with the same class is the closest thing you can get to preset builds, just takes a lot more work because you have to level it at least 60 times (with a scroll). Also there’s the aesthetics factor.

Of course, the only thing you have to do differently is the name. You can make them exactly the same if you want.

I have 2 level 80 Mesmers.
My first character I made in BWE’s was a human Mesmer and she was my first 80.
Later I fell in love with with Sylvari – so I made a Sylvari Mesmer.
They have different builds so they don’t play the same at all.

I am doing the same with an Engi right now- just had to have a Sylvari Engi too

I have two Level 80 Warriors, two Level 80 Necros, and will have a second Level 80 Guard and Mesmer soon enough.

A set of gear for a build is a set of gear no matter which character its on, so I just pick builds to go with the character and use them in the role I think suits them best. I swap builds by pressing “log out to character select”…

The only drawback is you lose a char slot.

So buy another char slot with gold and you’re set.

Reason #2 – Because you get to experience different Personal Story
Reason #3 – Because you enjoy the class soo much, You don’t care!
Reason #4 – Because it’s fun!

Made a thief at day 1 of headstart. leveled it to 80 but choose vigil. After 1 month I thought it was not correct and it should be order of wisp. started new toon and level to 80. (2 thiefs) between that i made a war and made it priory. Same problem… should be vigil… remade and got a vigil. Then i made a guardian. heavy armor caster so my choice was priory again but after 1 month i liked guardian with vigil armor (didnt know about the transmutation trick yet. so started a new guard.

Now hitting 1000 hours mark i have 2 thiefs. (1 for PvP 1 for PvE my main)
2 wars (both for farming and dont play them alot)
1 guard (deleted the first guard and have the other as my main to fully outfit)

For me it was the choise of order that made me make new characters of the same profession. Had fun with them!

conclusion: if you like it, just do it!

Guilty as well! Got 2x necromancers, level 80, kitted out in exotics and ascended gears. The only difference is that the one is a male Sylvari necromancer that runs around with a horde of minions on his tail, while the other is a cute female Sylvari necromancer that specializes ion constant AOE pressure with marks and wells.

I say – go ahead and make another character!

I have multiples of several professions up to 80. I even currently have 4 level 80 rangers; male sylvari, female asura, female human, female norn. I used to have an 80 male charr ranger as well, but he didn’t survive a horrible clipping incident. Though I now have a charr guardian (charrdian) since heavy armor seems to be the only decent looking armor for charr. If you get tired of a character, or want to enjoy leveling the character again, making a duplicate or one with a minor appearance change can be cheaper than a makeover kit, and the old can also be used for more storage.

I leveled a second mesmer to have one condition set and one power based. I ended up deleting the condition mesmer, but that has more to do with the cost of outfitting a character rather than anything else.

I also enjoy the leveling process.

I have one of each class (Engineer is the only I haven’t gotten to 80 yet) and an extra Warrior and an extra Guardian.

My first Warrior was a Charr and my first Guardian was a Norn. I dislike their large body styles, so I decided to keep them around and level some new ones (human and sylvari, respectively).

I intend to make my new Warrior a Condition focus for playing around and my new Guardian a damage sponge for dungeons.

I have ten characters, two of each race, with an extra necro and an extra ranger.

One necro is my main, a male Asura, who is a power-minion-mancer. The other is a female human who is a condition-mancer.

I also have a male Charr ranger who uses an axe/warhorn and longbow to provide stacks of boons and vulnerability with Remorseless. The other is a female Sylvari ranger with dual axes and a sword/dagger. She’s traited as a crit-machine and beastmaster.

So yes you can have multiples of the same class, just play them differently so you dont get bored or treat them as clones.

Lessee: 2 mesmers, 2 warriors, 2 guardians, 2 necros, 1 thief, 1 ranger, 1 engie, 1 ele, all at 80, plus a lower ele (RP shill) and thief (likely to delete and reroll mesmer). Many of them have RP reasons to exist, some are just for fun. I run different weapons and trait lines on the duplicates to get different playstyles, and their personalities run to different looking armor for a variety of looks.
