Q:

I was curious when an item says 2% critical damage is that a flat +2% to the 150% base critical damage or is it a different number just being rounded up at the tool tip to an integer ?

If it is flat would not boots gloves and shoulders always be best for a crit damage % item where as other slots be worse since they give you less stats point per point?

Thank you for your help in advance!

TL’DR: If you want to “maximize” your stats, don’t wear chest/leg armor with % Crit damage on it.

As far as I know, there is no rounding. Here is the math on crit damage % Prices:

Head/Shoulder/Boots/Gloves all give 34/24 stats at level 80 exotic level.
Chest gives 101/72, and Pants give 67/48 . The crit damage always replaces a “low” stat as far as I can tell, so it corresponds to the 24/48/72 numbers.

HSBG gives 24 low stat points, or 2% crit damage, so 1% of crit damage is equal to 12 stat points (for level 80 exotic armor)
Legs give 48 and 3% which is paying 16 stat points per crit damage
Chests give 72 and 5%, which is paying 14.4 stat points per crit damage.

SO, if you want crit damage, and want to minimize the amount of other stats you have to pay for that crit damage, than wearing Head/Shoulder/Hand/Feet items with % Crit Damage, and Leg/Chest with something else, would be the most efficient.

As a side note, if we assume that 12 points per crit % should be the norm, it would be 4 crit damage on pants, and 6 on chest armors. If we assume that chests are correct, Head armor would be at 1.6 repeating and leg at 3.3. If we assume pants are correct, it’d be 1.5 for head and 4.5 per chest.

In conclusion, We don’t know what they want the price of a single Crit damage % point to be (in terms of standard stats) It’s somewhere in the 12-16 range. Could be outside the range, honestly, but we don’t have enough data for that. (We might could get more data by looking at non-exotics, but I don’t have time) But they round the stats on the gear, which makes some gear “Better” than others in terms of what you sacrifice when getting crit damage %.

I’m assuming they’re all whole numbers and no rounding is present; also, if you’re trying to be as efficient as possible the jewels in your trinkets are the most efficient source of crit damage.

They don’t round. It’s a flat addition to the 150% base. With that said, not going for crit damage on legs or chest is a slightly bad suggestion, especially in PvE, where it’s so easy to achieve the 100% critical hit chance. Once you reach 100% critical hit chance, there’s absolutely no reason to keep getting more precision.

The options you have left, that don’t waste points on more Precision, are:
Condition Damage (high), Power, Vitality.
Power (high), Critical Damage, Vitality.
Healing Power (high), Power, Toughness.

Now, of the three of those, Power/Critical Damage/Vitality gear is the logical choice for damage.

@ nels

How much precision is needed at level 80 for 100% crit chance?

Does it vary by class or same for everyone?
