Is there a healer in this game?
Water Elementalist maybe? I’ll let other players with more insight to do better than my puny answer.
Water elementalist isnt’ necessarilly focused on heals, but the AOE nature of the heals we do have is nice. I love casting Healing Rain in zergs tokitten people off.
There are specs which make you act as a pseudo-healer, but there is no dedicated class.
For example, a 70+ Warrion using a Healing Shout spec and a full set of Superior Rune of the Soldier to give solid group healing and Condition removal. That doesn’t even take your weapon choices into consideration. For a class which has a reputation as a beat stick profession, that’s a nice option.
Then you’ve got the Spirit summoned pet line for Rangers. If you’re devoted to that line, you’ve got some nice support.
Or a healing and group buffing focus on an Engineer is another viable choice.
Elementalists focusing on Water Field effects and using lots of Blast descriptor attacks to trigger AoE heals off of the field can be extremely powerful.
Even Guardians can do some nice healing with the proper weapon, skill, and trait choices.
I could go on and on, but you should get the picture. While there isn’t a “true healer” in this game, there are many different classes who can cover the aspects of that role. You can help your group avoid damage by granting AoE Protection and Vigor buffs (or Blinding trash mobs). Or you can remove their Conditions, which cover both damage dots and various debuffs. Then as a last resort, you can physically heal them with AoE healing abilities.
necros can also be pretty good offensive style healers.. heal with mark of blood and evasion and death shroud traits while taking transfering conditions (with staff #4 and maybe on plague signet if it gets changed to actually take conditions away instead copying them) or turning them to boons with well of power
No profession can take the role of dedicated healer. Every character is their own best, and most reliable, healer. What others can do is help take the edge off incoming damage and remove conditions, so their friends have a bit more breathing room, but they can never keep another player on their feet by themselves.
Also, they can’t sit in the rear with the gear and claim to be healing support for a group. First and foremost, they do damage and control, just like everyone else. Healing support is always a secondary function. Otherwise, they are just being carried and I doubt many groups will tolerate that for very long.
I will give you the direct answer no one wants to hear or say. The answer is their is no healing or tanking, ranged dps is godly because the majority of fights, pve or pvp, is range based.
No.
/15charr “see what i did there ?”
I have a low level guardian and they seem to have more than the average healing capacity and the ability to block damage. But there is no dedicated healer in the game. And having played the healer in other games I say AMEN to that!
And for those other games, it is not the healer’s fault if you die from pulling agro off the tank. Just sayin’. ;-)
There is certainly no pure dedicated healer class, but all classes can spec into their traits and skills for a certain degree of healing, some better than others.
This game is You take care of yourself so if ur in a dung some ppl may lay a Aoe Heal but most people just care for themselves unless some1s down…
As was mentioned, if you play with a standard group, then roles can be easier assigned. One of my guildies keeps the rest of the party informed on the status of his well’s cooldown. That way the rest of us know whether we should trigger our own heal now or try to dodge a couple of seconds and wait for his AoE heal.
Once my warrior has his healing shouts, as I use shouts a lot, I will probably be constantly healing for a bit just by being in combat.
There are professions who have abilities to heal allies but it’s nowhere near enough healing to be considered a healing class. It’s more a part of being supportive than anything.
Also Mesmers can heal with the ‘Restorative Mantras’ trait in combination with ‘Mantra of Pain’ ability and the ‘Harmonious Mantras’ trait it makes a good little extra for damage builds.

Your best bet is to ask yourself what exactly it is you like about the healer role in other games.
Is it being a good ‘caretaker’ for your team? Then you may enjoy Guardian, with its many supportive skills that most people really appreciate. Also, Engineers have some great supportive Elixiers and turrets people love to see on the field.
Is it not being expected to be at the frontlines in the thick of battle? You may enjoy Ranger or Mesmer then, they are generally expected to be at range, doing their thing.
Is it the relative simplicity of having one task to focus on? Warriors are simple and straightforward in the damage department… no threat holding or crowd control expected. Also, nearly every class can be played and specced in such a way that they do one kind of thing really well (though that may make explorable dungeons harder on you, since dungeons demand a certain flexibility).
Also, people are normally grateful for revives when downed, and as far as I know, all classes have at least one AOE Heal skill that can be very helpful in a pinch.
A fair word of warning: Dynamic Event medals are mostly dependent on the damage you do. Playing pure support will sadly cheat you out of the gold medal most of the time.
I also used to play main healer in other mmo´s then switched to main tank.
in this game i play guardian, and I really enjoy how there isnt any dedicated healers. ButI´ve noticed a lot of people demanding that I go heal build for dungeons, but I refuse and just flip them of, if they wanted a psedu healer they could of rolled one
You can make a pretty spectacular Ranger with 300hp/s passive regen and an almost 100% uptime of a 300hp/s regeneration. Or try a Guardian, they are considered a very strong support class. A true healer though? No there is none in Guild Wars 2.
The answer is no. You cannot become a dedicated healer.
At least not in the way you are asking.
If you want to build a character and focus on support/heals then you may. However, you will never be able to single handedly keep your party healed. Most of that burden lies on the other players themselves, by knowing what heals they have available and when to use them.
Healing that affects allies is meant to merely mitigate damage.
Play as a guardian.
Use a mace/shield and a staff.
Max your healing and defensive traits.
You are now a cleric. Enjoy.
