As in is there a sweet spot number you should be shooting for if you are playing a class that is mostly in melee range? I’m not sure if this game has diminishing returns when it comes to the armor attribute so I was wondering if there was a point where you really don’t need any more armor or toughness or whatever.

I’m not sure if ‘Diminishing Returns’ has been used in other games but in GW2 it’s specifically an anti-farming system. I don’t know exactly how it works but it basically means if you repeatedly kill the same type of enemy in the same area after a while you will get less loot, and what you do get will be less valuable.

It seems to be used as a bit of a whipping boy on the forum and gets blamed for all kinds of things that are nothing to do with it. But that is the total of it’s effect.

As for armor I’d say you want the maximum possible armor rating because there isn’t really any downside to that. You can overspec toughness but it depends on your profession and build. It might be something you need to work out by trial and error – if you’re taking ages to kill anything, but have that time because they’re not doing much damage to you either (and you don’t like that situation) it might be worth moving some of the trait points/armor bonuses to other things, like power or precision.

Sorry if I was not as clear as I could be about the diminishing returns thing. It just seems like we aren’t on the same page. When I say diminishing returns, I mean as you increase a certain stat, the benefit you get for each point in the stat starts to diminish.

Let’s say for example toughness worked like this in the game…Let’s say toughness gave you a percentage damage reduction. 500 toughness gives you 10% damage reduction, 1000 toughness gives you 20% damage reduction…but then 1500 toughness gives 25% damage reduction. As you can see at the beginning every 500 points of toughness gave you 10% more damage reduction…but then after 1000 toughness another 500 points only gave you 5% more damage reduction. That is what I mean by diminishing returns.

Base damage taken is some number / armor. Where armor is your gear + your toughness. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Damage

So each point you add to toughness has less effect than the previous one. I have seen advice not to try WvWvW with less than 2600 for a warrior. But a glass cannon warrior (with about 2100 armor) can kill very fast.

It comes down to how squishy you want to be. I think 2000 is glass cannon. 2500 in the middle, and 3000 is a tank.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.
