Is there a point to crafting?
The base reward is experience. There are some ways to make money from crafting, specifically cooking and jewelcrafting. It is far more lucrative to sell crafting mats for any other crafting profession. It is generally cheaper and quicker to get your first exotics either from dungeons or Karma vendors in Orr than crafting them. As you level it is also cheaper to just buy greens and blues from the tp than to craft.
I like to be at 400 so when there’s a special event recipe that pops-up, I’ll be able to craft the item. There’s that and I just think crafting is fun. But… I also like taking long walks in the cities
Yeah the real reward is the experience it gives you, hence the reason some players use crafting to power level. If you ever plan on getting yourself a legendary weapon you will need to have two of the eight crafts at level 400, which two depends on which legendary. There are achievement points and title attached to crafting also, if those things are important to you?
I have all eight crafts mastered and will admit that I get no profit from it whatsoever, although I don’t really try to either. I spent some money on mats to complete some of the crafts but the majority I gathered myself whilst playing. But, being a bit of a completionist, I like that I have the achievement and that I didn’t have to worry about levelling through a craft or two when I decided which legendary to make. But if you were only planning to master a craft to make some extra money I wouldn’t bother.

Crafting is great to help level… for once in an MMO you gain meaningful XP.
I actually find crafting enjoyable, so that’s my main reason for doing it.
Also it’s a good way to get items with the stats you want, and it’s quicker and easier if you’re able to craft it yourself rather than trying to find someone else to do it for you.

I crafted all of them to 400 myself. I have never made a copper from it, nor had that intention when I started. I craft purely for enjoyment, and I love making characters that can ‘live off the land’, so to speak, as much as possible.
I was ‘very’ happy with the quality of items I was able to make myself coming up through the levels. Many games like to push crafted items into a sub-standard area, I’m glad this one didn’t, having crafted all the Exotic gear for 80s thus far (with a few jewelry purchases).
I let my crafting level at any point in time dictate the level areas I played in (for both materials and the highest gear level I was able to craft myself at that point).
Knowing what I know now, I’d do it all over again.
It’s a lot of fun to figure out new recipes. Especially cook and artificer are 2 of the the crafts I enjoy the most.
Nice xp…and at 400…its nice to be able to craft exotics for all your alts for a quarter of what it costs on the TP. That is, if you harvest while leveling.

it CAN be profitable, but it generally isn’kitten takes spreadsheets and spidy’s api to know what is actually profitable at any given time. I make money off it regularly, but it’s complicated and time consuming.
