Q:
Is there a quick way to get gold?
Buy gems and convert them to gold. I love games that incorporate both economies. Keeps me playing the game the way I want to, and pays the rent of the freeloaders. I only first started playing at HOT release, and have spent around $250 not including the price of the expansion.

If there was a quick way for gold that is publicly known then everyone would have a lot and then everything will still cost more than what you have.
Don’t they teach basic economics in high school anymore? Of course not, it’s not core requirements.

Many player farm silver waste for loot to make gold. You can search for silver waste farm guide.
Gathering wood and ore nodes is usually a solid way to earn gold. Check trading post prices to get an idea of what sells well (some materials are selling for 4-6 silver each).
If you’vet got mastery tracks unlocked (HoT only) or are interested in map completion for making a 1st gen legendary someday, take your level 80 to an area you haven’t been that’s the right level (so you’ll unlock waypoints and gain xp as you go).
If you don’t have HoT and aren’t interested in map completion, take a new character so you can work on leveling them while you earn gold. A lot of the valuable stuff is low-level anyway.
Some general tips:
Do events if you see them; you’ll get decent loot from map rewards and champs or world bosses. Events go faster with more people, and will scale up, giving better loot, so if you find a group doing events, follow them.
Avoid spending money if you’re saving for something. If you want something from the TP, place a buy order and be patient (materials will often sell in < 5 min). Sell to sell orders (sell crafting materials few slots down the list — they’ll sell fast anyway and you’ll get more money).
DON’T INDISCRIMINATELY THROW STUFF IN THE MYSTIC FORGE. I did this way too much when I first hit 80. It’s a gamble, and sometimes people get lucky with a precursor or something, but mostly you lose money. This is the only place to put unsalvageable gear, but probably nothing else.
Salvage all gear that’s blue or green, and most yellows (with a MASTER salvage kit) for the ectos. (It’s best not to salvage rares if they are more expensive on the TP than ectos. However, checking takes time, and if I’m in a hurry I salvage them all without checking.)
If you have HoT, do the first story to unlock masteries and the new maps. Some unique HoT loot is worth selling, and masteries will insure that your post-level 80 xp isn’t going to waste.
in fact, we’re going to put the goons to sleep.
Meanwhile – we dig.
Have you considered using other currencies for your equipment? You can use karma at the Temples in Orr, badges of honor in WvW or dungeon tokens. You may not have enough of a single currency for a full set, but you can mix and match equipment from different places since all level 80 exotics have the same stats.
It might be worth thinking about what skins you want too, because if you can get the skins and the stats together it will save you time and money. For example if you want dungeon skins and the stats you want are also available from that dungeon you may as well just start running it for tokens now instead of farming somewhere else to buy equipment with the right stats and then farming the tokens later for the skin.
You can also use laurels to buy ascended trinkets, which can make a big difference to your stats.
As for making gold there are a few different ways. One of the most popular is doing the events in Silverwastes and then selling the loot, or salvaging it and selling the crafting materials (it takes some research or experience to make the best of it, but even if you salvage everything and sell the materials you’ll make a fair bit of gold).
Collecting crafting materials from elsewhere is also effective. Oddly enough mid-level materials are often worth more than high level ones, because they’re needed for ascended/legendary crafting and level 80s often have to go out of their way to get them. Prices fluctuate but iron is often a safe bet – it’s widely available but needed for a huge number of things so it’s always in demand.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
- Silverwaste (you need to know what to do there, just running around doing event won’t be good gold)
- Wood and Ore gathering (there is website for that kind of stuff, finding rich vein or the best place for woods, etc)
- Dungeons. Yes anet nerfed them and everybody is still kitten like a little girl about it. Still, with the power creep you can go through them super fast and low tier material skyrocketed in price to get you between 10 and 20 gold per hours. With winterdays and the shoulders we didn’t test every dungeon, but TA and CM are very good gold. Just hard to find pugs for those these days.
- Use daily crafting. A lot of stuff can’t be crafted more than once a day. Those often give you a profit if you sell them or recipe using those item. Best exemple right now are ascended material, but you need to be high enough in crafting.
- Fractal. Always buy those first 30 encryptions key per day. Even if you buy encryptions box on the tp, it’s still 6 silvers of profit each so 1.8 free gold per day. Of course that’s only if you have Mastery Fractal 3. If you don’t have that mastery yet you can still buy your daily 30 key and accumulate them until you get your mastery, but if you are far from getting it, this might drain your gold if you don’t have much already, so maybe wait until you get your mastery first. Doing fractal is a great way to gain encryption so you don’t have to buy as much on the TP and give higher profit. Concentrate on the daily, some of them are very quick for the reward.
