Is there a way to make leveling entertaining?
Cooking while listening to standup comedy = entertaining leveling
leveling is already extremely entertaining
would you like a nice small room full of respawnable mobs to kill for 10-20 hours to get max level?
sorry but I can`t respect people who don`t enjoy exploring the beautiful world Anet has created for them.
the play-style you probably want is the boring one

No I’m not asking for an asian MMO -.-
The way events are done there’s plenty of ways to explore the world, i love the world that Anet made, its beautiful and epic. But forcing us to go to specific points for xp to level is dumb, leveling should mainly be done with events. And no the play style I’m looking for is a one that doesn’t force the player to do every single thing in the game when the player gets enough of it already just by doing events.
leveling should mainly be done with events.
Not sure what you’re doing, but that’s exactly how I leveled up. Are you sure you’re not missing half of the events because you move along too quickly?

Im doin every event and then every dynamic event I can. And I’m still behind, I’ll be 2/3 levels behind in events/story
Since you like PvP, if you’ve not tried WvW, that can be a good way to level quickly if you supplement your PvE play with it.
Crafting nets you a lot and you’ll find yourself ahead, but if you don’t like that, others have suggested visiting all the other races starting areas, which are easy to get to through the gate system and Lions Arch. Besides 5 1-15 zones, I think there are 4 distinct 15-25 zones? If I counted right? You are down leveled, so they are still quite fun, and some of the loot will be on par with your level.
If you aren’t crafting, sell all those mats on the TP. Take up gathering, buy sickles, axes, picks for the area and gather everything. Good exp in gathering and money selling it all, if you aren’t going to craft.
Have you cleared your entire zone map to 100%? That has always gotten me to the appropriate level for the next zone.
I realize you stated that you don’t like exploring, but unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view) this game favors and rewards the explorer.
I leveled my second character by WvW, keeping up with my storyline and crafting to keep me geared. That might be an option since you like PvP.
Honestly, as you have probably seen, compared to nearly every other game on the market, this game levels very quickly.
Are you gathering resources? Craft some stuff once every 10 levels or so? Both give a lot of bonus XP.
Go to different areas of the same level.
Problem solved.
The thing is when you do reach level 80 you will find yourself running around maps just like you can now. You will be doing Events. You will be visiting dungeons. You will be in WvW, if you like that thing of course. You will be in PvP from what you wrote. Nothing very new really just different. I suggest you look around he Forums a bit, plenty of people get bored at level 80 because they feel they have done everything.
It reads as if you don’t like the game. If you don’t enjoy it now I doubt you ever will.

I don’t think you can “make” anything entertaining if you aren’t enjoying it in the first place. You are asking us to change your attitude.

I have to agree with Raf, if you’re not finding this game entertaining, maybe it’s just not your cup of tea.
Not trying to bag on you but some games my friends love and swear by, I just couldn’t get into.
It sounds like you’re trying to level just from dynamic events and story missions?
You get XP from doing practically everything in this game. ANet didn’t design it to level people just from story missions / events, they wanted people exploring the world too.
Go to a level-appropriate area. Get points of interest, gather resources, finish off hearts, do the daily achievement, find vistas, do the jumping puzzles. You’ll level so fast your head will spin.
If you like PvP and want to level, WvW has resources and events that give XP, along with PvP that gives loot.
That said, not every game is for everyone. At least with GW2 there’s no subscription so you can drop in to see if you’re opnion’s changed whenever you want.

got 2 level 80 toons and with my play style I noticed that I was always 2-3 levels behind on both of them. I am sure I rushed a bit too. Either doing 100% map completion or moving to other same level areas should even that out.
On the other hand, fighting higher level mobs can give you better drops… I think most of us are in the same boat, getting to level 80 fast. I had a 43% map completion on pretty much both of my toons when I hit 80. Now that I am, I can take it easy and enjoy ‘god mode’ in low level areas to get my 100% ’s…
Leveling while doing map completion, daily, and storyline is extremely entertaining.
Cheers.

I’m surprised no one said this, but, everything is better with a female (or male) companion!! Find someone in real-life or in-game to do quests with, explore, farm, craft, etc. If you don’t like exploring, then do Jumping Puzzles or farm Achievements – they give you influence, hefty chests filled with nice items, and lots of gold/karma reward – with special rewards, as well!
This game is about adventure, not hardcore grinding. You just have to find what type of adventure intrigues you the most. Maybe you could find an RP group/guild that likes to farm during the RP – you would gain exp and entertainment in the process.

I don’t see how it’s boring..most other MMORPGs feel more like a grind. Here, you are exploring, helping out in spontaneous area events etc instead of mindlessly killing mobs. The game IS entertaining to me. I just play and explore, I don’t even keep track of leveling. That’s not the point, enjoying the content is
Completing a zone does you a lot of good. Plus you don’t have to go to a zone only at your current level, thanks to downscaling.
Best way though is with friends. Especially if you’re all RPing. Running AC Story as a way to delve for a lost magical weapon (to explain how you got that exotic), or exploring your way to jumping puzzles to simulate pirate treasure searches makes it all tremendous fun.
I enjoy the game and I do basically EVERY aspect of the game, I crafted when I had a good supply of money/mats, I gather, I do events, story quest, and I explore what’s on the way to events. I hate the exploration and I feel as if it’s a waste of my time to do them, I don’t wanna be forced to go to a “X” marked on the map just to get caught up in leveling. I see and enjoy enough of the world by doing events, gathering, and getting WPs. I tried leveling in different areas, but it seemed a bit slow.
What I’ve been doing actually for the past couple days is WvW, and I’ve gotten from 60-70 in about a day (of game play) and I’m having fun leveling that way. I’ll just WvW and do my Story quests when I feel like it a bit (or get to over leveled)
Focus on map completion for the early areas and you’ll easily catch up. Also since you like PVP, maybe do some WvW, getting levels there is insanely easy. On a good guild run I could rack up 3 levels in two hours.

find some friends or a guild to run with. i even party up with randoms while exploring at times if i noticed we’re after the same stuff. i’ll ask hey wanna party ? just rando eploring. and more cases than not, they’ll be like sure. and you can laugh and chat and what not.
if you want, you can Role Play if you’re into and can certainl help with the entertaining factor.
sounds like you love PvP, don’t like exploring that much or doing te hearts or having to find all vista’s and PoI’s. so i second/ third / fourth… going to check out WvW. large scale PvP, with different tactics. i have specific builds, gear and weapons for WvW. a different mind set. different consumables. and you can easily level up a lot this way. and it’s a TON of fun. helps to build server pride as well.
another alternative, go run some dungeons. they can extremely challenging if you’re “new” or “unprepared” but once you get the hang of them, can be very fun. can still be challenging depending on who you do them with. try PUGs. find a guild perhaps. and go for the dungeon master title. each path you do will usually net you a large portion of a level.
hope you can refind that spark in the game that you found initially!

I have not much to add that hasn’t allready been told here, but hey, one more opinion cant hurt
I have the opposite off you dear OP. I’m allways way to high level for the area that i’m doing. And i don’t do this on purpose. Nope, i just like to complete an area before i move on to the next one. I have a human hunter and a norn guardian. They both stick to there “native” area’s so i don’t visit other races start area’s. I’m having trouble ignoring a gathering spot so i’m a heavy gatherer (nice exp for that) and since most off the spots have a mob close by, i have to kill a few now and then.
That keeps my dailies running nicely. When i see an event and i’m close by, i jump in to help out a bit. Again, nice exp rewards and some good loot also.
Once in a while i track back to the main city to indulge a bit in crafting. I’ve been choosing crafting professions i can use on my char. So armor and weaponsmith for my Guardian. Again, nice exp rewards from the discovery section.
Adding all this makes me level so quickly i can’t complete an area before i overlevel it.
So when i get into a new area, i just start walking about, looking for new events that i haven’t done yet, gathering some mats and killing some mobs. And that is what keeps me going and going. Currently in Snowden Drifts, wich is a 15-25 area, i havent seen everything yet in that area and allready lvl 37.
