Is there a way to make one Ranger Pet dominant?
I’m not entirely sure.
I mean, if you don’t want the whole stable of pets you could just get rid of all the other ones that aren’t the one you wish to use… Try opening up the Pet menu and playing around with the interface.
Yes , Just got to pet management and select him as the top pet. He will then always be the pet you use after you are defeated. You can do this at the top of the pets picture when you mouse over it , just like utility skill selecting. It will bring up a list of pets that you have , just click on the one you want at the top.

Nothing happens.
It is because I only have 2?
It always puts the one I want at the bottom and refuses to change it.
yeah, that`s a bit buggy i guess. you need a third pet for switching as you can`t have the same pet in both slots since BWE3. Easy pets to charm are some polar bears in hoelbrak on the ice lake to the west or south of the raven lodge in hoelbrak is a tamable raven.
The pet system is designed with switching in mind. Once you understand this is becomes a very powerful mechanic. Focusing on one pet is not how the system is designed.
You can tame as many pets as you can find and each pet type (cats, dogs, moas, etc) has different strengths and weaknesses. Bears for example are very tough and good for tanking while you shoot mobs at range. Spiders are great for AoE poison and laying down combo fields when you are playing with others.
While in combat, you are expected to be swapping your pets and there are even traits that give you boons when you swap pets.
Currently, naming pets works on the pet slot and not the individual pet, so you name pet slot 1 and pet slot 2, as well as aquatic pet 1 and aquatic pet 2. Switching out a named pet for a new one via the pet interface will reset this name to the default “juvenile” pet name.
The reason the game swaps out pets when you are down is that the game goes back to whatever pet is in slot 1.
You can find a lot of information here: http://www.guildwars2-pets.com/
Have fun!
I tend to keep 2 pets in mind for switching. 1 for melee and 1 for ranged, or 1 for healing and 1 for damage/good buffs.
That way, I am usually not too peeved by one dying and having to switch. I just switch on the fly use that pet and get out the other when it’s back up.
There are a lot of pets out there, which do very different things. I would recommend charming everything in your path so that you can find your perfect 2 pet combo.

I am not sure what you mean here, but the problem may be the way you have them slotted. Here is what I mean.
There are four pet slots. Let’s number them from top to bottom as 1 through 4 respectively. Slots 1 and 2 are for terrestrial (land) pets. These are the pets used on land or when swimming on top of the water. Slots 3 and 4 are for aquatic pets. These are the pets used when you go under water. When you are on land, pressing F4 will switch between the pets in slots 1 and 2. When under water, pressing F4 will switch between the pets in slots 3 and 4. However, the only way to switch between the pets for each type of environment (e.g., to switch from the pet in slot 1 to the pet in slot 3) is to change environments (i.e., if you are on land, go under water and vice-versa).
Also, to add to the confusion, while some pets are only terrestrial (e.g., the birds) and can only be slotted in slots 1 and 2. Others are only aquatic (e.g., a shark) and can only be slotted in slots 3 and 4. However, some pets (e.g., bears) are amphibious, and they can be slotted in any slot.
Therefore, the answer to your issue depends on what pets you have and how they are slotted. If the two pets you have are slotted, say, in slots 1 and 3, the system will always use the one in slot 1 while you are on land, and the only way to switch to the one “at the bottom” is to go under water. In this case, pressing F4 would have no effect because there is no pet slotted in either slot 2 or slot 4. Alternatively, if you have one pet slotted in slot 1 and the other in slot 2, the system will always default to the one in slot 1, and to get the other you have to press F4.
In either case, if you want your “bottom” pet to be your dominant pet (the one the system chooses as the default), move it to the top slot in the appropriate environment. Slot 1 will be the “dominant” pet slot for land and slot 3 will be the “dominant” pet slot for under water. If the pet you want to be dominant is amphibious and you want it to be the default for both environments, you can put it in both slots 1 and 3. Either way, whatever pet is in slot 1 will be chosen as the default pet for when you are on land and whatever pet is in slot 3 will be chosen as the default pet when you are under water. If the default pet for a specific environment is out, use F4 to switch to the other one for that environment (i.e., to slot 2 if you are on land or slot 4 if you are under water).

Well, I’m assuming I need a 3rd pet.
One to temporarily slot while I move the other 2 around in order.
GW2 is probably saying, you’ve got Pet 1 and Pet 2 slotted, so you can’t reslot them unless one is not active.
I did try to find a Rabbit to charm, but no such luck!
And yes, I tried that in GW1 as well.
I was just something crazy I wanted, an attack rabbit.
Unfortunately, Rabbits are not charmable! :-(
Edit: Got it working, had to charm an owl and a shark to move them around.
Thanks for the advice.
