I played the game way back when the game launched and had a lot of fun with the game, but in an unfortunate accident, I sold some pauldrons with their appearance changed to the level 1 Guardian ones.
This really disheartened me and I just lost interest in the game, so I wanted to know if there was a way to get those back again or not. Like a level 1 vendor or a way to transfer a pair between characters through the bank?

If you have an empty character slot and some T-stones you can get items from character creation back.
1) make a character with that item
2) buy a low level white item and transmute the two together. This will break the soulbinding so it is account bound. Sometimes it will still say soulbound but it should be account bound. If it is still truly soulbound, repeat this step (you will be able to tell as no other character can take a soulbound item out of the bank when you put it in there). Put the item in the bank.
3) have the character you want it on pick it up and then transmute it to the final item.

So I had planned on finally doing this and your post reminded me of it. I tried to get a headpiece item from a necro and I transmuted it onto a white lvl 10 helm using the appearance from the starting item and the skin part didn’t transmute. I mean, it did, but it’s the skin of the lvl 10 headpiece so the transmute didn’t really work.

Where did I go wrong?

Yes, that’s what I did and it even still has the same icon for it, just the actual item appearance is wrong. It’s so strange.

Are you checking the appearance by equipping it or with the preview? There is a bug with previewing transmuted items directly from your inventory where it shows as the original item. You can link the item in chat and preview it from the chat for the correct appearance as a workaround.

When I look at transmuting something it gives me a warning that this will make it soulbound. So how can it work to un-soulbind something?

The look gets transmuted on to a white or blue item. White and blue items are never soulbound but it will remain account bound due to the transmutation. Then you have to do another transmutation to put the skin on the item with the right stats.

In your case it is not worth doing unless you already happen to have an extra Transmutation Stone lying around since other methods of getting the skin is cheaper than a Transmutation Stone.

I think that skin is Aureate? Check the human cultural weapons and just type “Aureate” in your search for greatswords on TP.

On the plus side, it is worth doing if he also wants to keep the “avenger” name as well.

Thanks everyone. It’s a sylvari greatsword. lovely green blade with stalk-look handle and ivy entwining the back edge of the blade part way. I will look at the Aureate but if that’s a human look it’s unlikely.

Anyway basically you’re saying no matter what the transmute window says, if it is getting stats from a white weapon it will not be soulbound? If so I’ll do it.

How I normally transmute items to make them account bound:

• Appearance item (which is usually soulbound), and white or blue item which is the same, usually very lower level, and obtain from vendor or TP
• Put both in bank, keep bank window open
• Activate transmutation crystal (if appearance item is 80) or use stone from inventory
• Pull both items into transmutation window, keep appearance item’s look, white/blue item’s stats, and since the statted item is low, dismiss slotted sigil or gem
• Combine and account-bound item should be stored in the bank where either one used to be

Oh sorry, I was remembering getting Avenger as a human. Yah, you want to go to the sylvari cultural weapon vendors in the Grove. A bit tricky to find them, as they are inside a building on the se edge on a lower level but you can see their icons on more than one level. Anyway, they’d have the Sylvari organic weapon look. I love their T3 with the blue glass look.

Or you can look up Verdant on the TP, as the Verdant weapon set is likely what you have got ahold of there.
