Is there transmog for gear?
yes, you earn … I want to call them coins but they are not coins, that allow a 1 time transmog. I believe everytime you complete a zone (find all the waypoints, Points of interest, ect) you will be rewarded with at least 1.
I got a ton of these yellow/gold diamond/square things that allow a 1 time transfer of item stats from one piece of armor to another. Whenever I find a set of gear I like, I’ll be able to transfer a full set. =)

They’re called transmutation stones and they are one time use items. You can get them from the gem store, or get them from fully exploring areas. I’ve gotten around 3 stones every area i complete. What you do is use the stone and enter the two armor pieces side by side. Then you choose what skin you want, what stats you want, and what enchants you want to keep on the final product.
So if I don’t wanna use the real money cash shop, as in buy gems, am I limited to a fixed number of gems by the time I hit 80 and have explored the world since there’s only so many quest hubs/chances to get a transmutation stones?
You can buy gems from in-game currency. Gems are fairly cheap, something like 40 silver for a 100 gems. That gives you a fair amount of transmutation.
You don’t even have to directly trade with anyone
Press O to bring up the Black Lion Trading Company Store,
Click the “Exchange Currencies” tab.
Click “Trade Gems for Gold”
Add how much Gold you’re willing to spend
It will show you how many gems you can get for the amount you’re offering.
Click exchange, and badabam! You’ve got Gems. Without using a single Euro!
Also, Correct me if I’m wrong, but Daily Achievements can also award Transmutation Stones I believe – as such, you can never run out of ways to get them.

You can buy them on the TP I think. Also, you are never forced to pay real money for the Trading Post items. You can change in-game currency for gems using the currency exchange tab in the TP window [default key “O’”]
edit: sorry for kinda reposting what the guy above me did, I was typing this when it was posted so I didn’t see it.

The Dragonfly Effect [Phi]
You will have more then enough, at lvl 30 I have roughly 30 of them off the top of my head
Okay! thanks for the feedback.
Also, are they an actual item in my inventory that stacks? or more like a currency tab I find in my interface somewhere?
I really wish they’d followed the Rift (and before I get mobbed I know other MMOs have done this as well) model and just given us a wardrobe tab instead of having to deal with the overly complicated transmog system
Yes, there are, generally, two items that allow you to swap looks and stats. I will quickly describe both for you.
Basic Transmutation Stone,
“Single-use. Combine the appearance of one item with the attributes of another. Items must be of the same type. Usable on items up to level 79.”
Fine Transmutation Stone,
“Single-use. Combine the appearance of one item with the attributes of another. Items must be of the same type. Usable on all item levels.”
I don’t know if it’s consistent, but I’ve gotten Basic Transmutation Stones from fully exploring cities.
Stones of both types are also available for gems. The Stones are an item, and stack in your inventory, they are not currency.

Its a stackable account bound item (meaning you can collect them on alts as well) that can be stored in your bank
1 Thing i must add.
Rememember you need better quality transmutation stone for better quality gear transmutation.

That’s really only true for lvl 80. All other levels can use the basic transmutation stone.
