Is this game for me?
I too was bored by ranger and warrior. Guardian is an odd case- I got intensely bored leveling mine solo, but I found her more interesting to play in groups. I picked her up again a few days ago to do a demonstration and wound up respeccing her from the common AH build to a custom build focused on boons and evasion- that too made her more interesting to play, but it didn’t come to me for a long time. About engineers, they’re relatively dull early on, and get much more interesting once you have access to kits and other skills.
I would recommend looking into the other classes, even if you initially don’t like how the armor looks. If you play around by combining sets rather than just using all the pieces of a single set, you can come up with better results. The most important thing is that you play a class you enjoy playing. If you can explain a few things you like or like doing, or why you found those classes boring, we can help you pinpoint one.
Also, regarding sylvari armor, you can use cultural armor or armor from the Twilight Arbor dungeon to keep their planty look, and even combine it with a few cloth pieces if you want to. I’ve attached a picture of my own sylvari ele as an example- glance through the sylvari board and you’ll find some others.

Thank you for your response!
I’m normally a heavy-armor melee type, but I also like magic so I might try the elementalist out next. I hear its a hard class and relatively weak early on, so I’ll probably be put off by that too… what would the coolest race be for an elementalist?
It’s interesting how you found out a way to make the guardian class appeal to you for a time.. maybe I should try experimenting too.

Race is cosmetic here, so the best bet is to pick the race you personally find coolest. My first ele was a charr, my second was a sylvari. My engineer was originally going to be a sylvari until I decided I really wanted a tengu engi.
About ele, it’s a much more unforgiving class to play compared to warrior, guardian, and ranger (the most forgiving). If you don’t dodge, move, and time your skills as a warrior, guardian, or ranger, you can get away with it for most open-world content, at least until you enter Orr or a dungeon. For ele, the wake-up call comes much, much sooner- you have the lowest health pool and the lowest armor in the game, and your survival is dependent upon how well you can dodge, kite, and use your skills to hold the enemy at bay. You WILL die if you stand still and let the enemy hit you, or stay in fire attunement all day doing nothing but damage. Later on, you get powerful self-recovery abilities, on par with or arguably stronger than a guardian’s, but you still have to dodge, kite, and apply rather than spam your skills.
It’s a fast-paced playstyle, and a strong and rewarding class once you learn it, but its learning curve is steep. If you give it a try, hit me up if you have questions.

I’ll give ele a spin. If I don’t like it, well, I guess this game isn’t for me :P
Hi, I have the same problem. I WANT to play this game, but I just can’t stay with one class. Not because I find them all fun, but because I find them all boring :-((
My characters:
guardian, my first char, lvl 80, I got bored so I deleted it
warrior, lvl 40, even more boring than guardian, deleted
ranger lvl 30, even more boring than warrior, deleted
engineer lvl 35, fun to play but it just don’t fit me, only two weapons, didn’t like the utility skills, deleted
mesmer lvl 21, fun to play, fun in sPvP, hate light armor, bored of playing norn again and again in the same locations, deleted
thief, I haven’t tried it yet, but it doesn’t fit my playstyle
elementalist, same and I kinda hate it, don’t know why
necro, this is probably the last class I will give a try
Sad, isn’t it? I am actually playing game I like with characters I hate…
I love Dervish + Ritualist (kinda reminds me of mesmer in GW2) from GW1. In wow I’ve been playing enhancement shaman.
I like being able to solo everything, I hate relying on other people, I also like 1v1 fights in sPvP more than zergs. I like heavy armors and big swords, so you would say guardian is perfect for me, but it is just not.
However at the moment, I am playing guardian again, first was norn, this is charr, I am level 25 and I am bored again. I think this game just isn’t meant for me. I have never had such problems finding a suitable class :-/
P.S.: I have cca 400 hours gameplay.

Haha, wow. Why did you delete your characters though? I wish I had the patience to get to level 80. I’m not sure how you managed it if you said you were bored with it!
I don’t know why, I just did it :-D.
And the guardian…well it was just after realease so I realized he is boring after like 96hours of nonstop gaming, after I reached 80.
I don’t really see light armor/medium armor being my thing. I love the look of heavy armor but I don’t like guardians and warriors.
I know this might not be something you want to hear, but maybe you should try the lighter armored professions. Who knows? They might have that energy you want.

Hmm well that seemed a bit drastic!
Anyway, glad I’m not the only one that feels this way about the game.

96 hours…
By the Six Gods I hope you had potty breaks and shower breaks in those hours.
If not….oh wow. lol

You’re welcome, and by all means. I do recommend you try ALL of the classes, though, with an open mind- each of them plays differently, and for all we know, thief, mesmer, or necro could be your personal fit.
@Menttor: If it helps any, this is how I personally play guardian: demo vid 1 and vid 2
Prior to changing her build, I used a typical Altruistic Healing build, which bored the heck out of me and felt lackluster solo. I really don’t like standing still or spamming skills blindly, and AH often made me feel like I had to do just that- if I moved around, I left my symbols and didn’t get healed for their boons, and to stay afloat, I felt I had to spam my shouts and virtues to heal myself.
Also, even though you don’t really know, can you explain why you don’t like the concept of ele? Again, if we know what’s bad and what’s good, it’s easier to pinpoint a fit. In the case of soloing things and 1v1, from personal experience ele can solo everything that is meant to be soloed and quite a few things that aren’t.

I was just kidding. Of course I had breaks, but after realease everyone was playing like a mad man :P

I just wanted to make sure, that’s all.
After all some of us did see the South Park WoW episode and we all know at least one person who is like that.

Thanks! Will do.
I felt bored by my necro and mesmer and then I leveled a norn ele which I absolutely love, in my opinion is one of the hardest classes to play but also very interesting and not-boring to play. They don’t really shine until they get good gear/traits at 80 so thank god I craftleveled her.
Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..

I see that this is a trend :P Picking females for elementalists.
