Q:

I tried asking the above question from GW2 Support – but they gave me a canned, vague, unhelpful answer about 3rd party applications.

So I turn to you, player community xD! I don’t want to get permabanned for using SweetFX, but if there is a risk, then I won’t use it.

So are there any out there who use SweetFX? What are the dangers?

This post is in my opinion very clear. Anet doesn’t support third party programs and you use them on your own risk. This also means that Anet doesn’t take time to test and review program X or program y to see if it is ok to use or not. It is unsupported, so also the question wether it is allowed is unsupported.

So lets review:
1: “Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
Sweet FX enhances images, it doesn’t allow you to play faster better or more accuratly.

2:“Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”
Nope

3: “Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?”
Well you get better quality graphics, but I’m pretty sure thats not what they mean by reward So No.

Answer therefore is that it is absolutly ok to use SweetFX. Keep in mind that you use it on your own risk. This means you can’t get any (graphical) technical support while using SweetFX on the game. But it is easy to turn off and be fully supported again.

You won’t get an official answer because they don’t want to get into endorsing or not endorsing every 3rd part program that comes along. But SweetFX is ok to use. It doesn’t provide you any advantage and doesn’t affect the gaming experience of other players.

I’ve used it for the better part of a year, and as long as you download it from the official source its perfectly safe.

Tip #1: If you use SMAA anti-aliasing from SweetFX be sure to disable the FXAA anti-aliasing in game. Thee two can conflict with each other.

Tip #2: Higher values doesn’t mean better picture. Nor does enabling every single effect. Be conservative, both in which effects you apply and what values you set for them.
