It's Been A While
Depends on your definition of awsome. Read the news section, read dulfy.net load the game and see for yourself.
Since the game is almost 2 years old if you haven’t played in a few years that would pretty much be since launch. In which case yes a lot has changed.
If you meant a few months we can probably summarise the changes, if it’s actually been years you’re probably better off creating a new character and re-learning from scratch.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Ah it feels like a few years but I suppose it’s been just one and some months. I had a hard time getting into it, actually deleted it off my computer since I wasn’t playing it which is why I’m asking here.
Anyhoo, the news posts seem to be mostly about some living story stuff and new transmutation items. Haven’t done a living story, is that a single player type of thing like your personal story while leveling?
I guess what I’m more interested in is if there have been any significant profession or mechanical changes, or changes/additions to PvE or gearing… if the game’s different to play from before or just more of the same with different stuff to look at.
There’s still been lots of changes. Ascended gear was added, for people who like some grind in their game. There’s been major changes to certain professions since launch…a bit at a time, but if you’ve been gone for a long time it’ll seem like a lot. Even more changes coming in a patch in 3 weeks time.
Seriously you’re going to have to see for yourself, because no one can really tell what you’ll like and what you want.
As for the Living Story, they’re solo instances that scale up if you do them with a group, which is how my guild does them. There’s a story mode which you play through and it unlocks achievements you can get by replaying them.
There’s a new map called Dry Top and some of the fights are a lot harder than what you may have been used to in the open world.
Living story is end game basically. You can’t really do the instances without being 80. I believe it up scales you to 80 anyway, but the mobs can hit pretty hard and the new mobs, yes new mobs, spam a lot of condition damage as well as having some new fight mechanics such as invulnerability to damage from certain directions. There’s a few new champions in the new zone that are a hell of a lot more fun to fight than the other zones. i.e. they’re not punching bags. They can and will wipe a lot of people who aren’t paying attention. I quite like the new zone, it’s interesting, it’s 3 dimensional, the events are fun and it’s not completely filled with zerglings
The instanced parts you have to do at level 80 because it won’t let you start the story before then.
You can go into the new map (Dry Top) and play the events there at any time because it’s just a normal open-world map. I went there on my level 25 character while exploring Brisban the other day. But you’re not scalled up so if you’re much below level 80 you’re going to die a lot.

“I haven’t played GW2 in a few years or so…”
“Ah it feels like a few years but I suppose it’s been just one and some months”
There is a fairly substantial difference between a few years and a month or two. If it’s been “a few years”, or 2 years since the game is 2 years old then there are substantial changes to the game. I suggest you read the blog posts. However you now say it’s a month or so. So. Season 2 of the Living Story has begun and a new map, Dry Top, is opening up. That’s about it.

I think one and some months means a year and some months.

You’re right. That’s what he meant.

Lol. Ok. I read that as one month or two.
