Guild Wars 2

Hi there sorry for a newbie questions but…. I have some nice precious stones with qualities (such as Sunstone Nugget, etc) that I would like to use in my items but adding them to unused weapon/armour slots.

I have just reached the required level to use the stones but the game won’t let me put them in empty slots (i have put stuff in slots before).

Do my weapons/armour also have to be the required level to use a certain-level stone???

There is also some funniness with the higher level crafted jewels, but I don’t know what they are specifically. Just watch out once you’re 80.
