I am making a Mesmer (probably asura) strictly for Jumping Puzzles.
Not caring about DPS or other game modes, the focus is on:

  • Movement skills (portal, blink, etc)
  • Swiftness uptime
  • Boon duration
  • Damage avoidance/mitigation (via traits ?)

So looking for build ideas, I find some that are pre-June 23. But none that are recent.
Hoping you all can help with ideas.

Here’s what it looks like atmC:

Gear-wise probably go Soldier with Traveler or Centaur runes. Soldier trinkets with boon duration doubloons.
Staff/Sword+focus with doubloons

But NO CLUE on Traits.

Any guidance/ideas/opinions would be helpful.

This is strictly fun build for running around and doing JPs. Also helping others with JPs (fee-free of course ).

For puzzles you need only few things.
1. Portal
2. Mimic
3. Signet of Inspiration
optional things are
4. Blink
5. Mantra for stability and condi clean

In matter of traits there is only one that matters,
Descend into Maddnes:

The rest is very optional, you need only this one.
Focus is mandratory, since mesmer lacks speed (what will change in HoT with chronomancer trait i remember)

armor type doesn’t matter, but you might think about choosing rune of speed

it’s how my mesmer is build atm.

An easy speed boost for mesmers is use the healing mantra with superior runes of the centaur. Even without the 3-charges trait, you can maintain swiftness indefinitely (although that’s a bit tedious) or simply have swiftness on demand. Superior Runes of Speed are also good, but significantly more expensive the SupCent.

I would take Blink over Signet of Inspiration because SoI has a tendency of giving unexpected swiftness, sometimes causing one to jump farther than expected.

Portal+Mimic and Portal+Blink are great mobility tools. (To get mimic to work with blink, set the initial portal and use mimic just before you place the entrance portal.)

John Smith: “you should kill monsters, because killing monsters is awesome.”

Thanks guys.
Didn’t think the traits would be too critical, but good to know.

Thanks again.

I’m no expert on traits, but as for skills/weapons:
I stay away from staff on jumping puzzles because accidentally hitting #2 can push you backwards off an edge. I use greatsword/sword-focus. The unpredictability of SoI is annoying, so I just slot it when I want speed for some reason. I use the golem asura racial skill as an elite (pretty much everywhere, actually), because it’s a quick way to distract a sudden crowd of mobs. Lasts longer than illusions, and I can’t remember seeing one die. Especially nice if you are low health (from falling, maybe), and might be downed.

We’re going to devote our energies to sports, gardening, all the cultural pursuits;
in fact, we’re going to put the goons to sleep.
Meanwhile – we dig.

Just want to post a Thank you to you guys.
Your advice was all right and very helpful.

Since equipping, I have done 15 puzzles in 2 days. Sometime today I am going down to Orr for those 3. Oh yea, I dusted off a human Mesmer and am using him, so… no golem. But your idea makes sense. Will equip Hounds instead of Moa!

Yes, Teaniel, the staff is no optimal. I did switch to Greatsword.
