Finally was able to buy guild wars 2 since they allowe online sales again today. Hopefully install will be finished by the time I get back from school tomorrow.

Just a question for people’s opinions, should I play a charr warrior first or a sylvari thief first?

If you switched the professions for the two races there, then they would be things I have not seen alot of! Warrior is a great pick, as it’s versatile and easy to get the hang of. However there are alot of Warriors if that’s something you consider.

Thief have some pretty amazing skills, that also look cool, naturally. And can dish out some nice burst. Great mobility and CC. You see alot in PvP, surprisingly, I don’t see many out in the world though. Both professions are great at PvP though. Hope this helps.

Both are faceroll easy-to-learn professions. I’m not slighting your choices, it’s just common knowledge that they are both beginner friendly. However, if you become able to master them, it’s a whole ’nother ball game.

Just to help in the kind of playstyle I enjoy, I like coming in and being able to do lots of burst, and I don’t like being support or control. For example, my favorite spec in wow when I used to play was boomkin because I jumped in and just lit stuff up for major bust. I don’t know this game well at all so which of these two would be better?

I wouldn’t really call thieves a faceroll profession, they do take a LOT of damage if you get hit with one, and because of that, they require an awful lot of dodging to be good at

fortunately though, thieves get a ton of dodging abilities and crippling skills to help with that but it’s still quite a bit harder than other classes and their high damage skills help them kill quickly, especially if someone is tanking for you

warriors on the other hand, and in my experience, have the defences they need to take quite a bit of damage and because of that, they don’t need to dodge as much, this class is probably your faceroll easy class, although i don’t think it has the same damage output as a thief and for the most part, is melee based

@MultaniGamer

they can both do lots of burst damage, it’s really a question of do you want a hard hitting class that’s easy to play or a NUCLEAR BOMB that’s hard to play

Gwaiyn – 80 Thief
Ryfaul – 80 Warrior
Fluene – 80 Mesmer

Charr Warrior!

Warrior is a great starter profession, with great damage, and great survivability.

If you want to do a thief, then you may have to get used to much worse suvivability which hurts when the difficulty ramps up (level 5, 10, 20, 40) as mobs get smarter.

@MultaniGamer

excellent choice~ just be sure to stick points into that toughness trait in pvp so your not completely defenceless

toughness and defence actually does make a difference there, you may not be able to do as much damage but at least you’ll be able to take enough hits to finish off a downed enemy and run away,

apart from that practice dodging and kiting with your thief and you should be set

Gwaiyn – 80 Thief
Ryfaul – 80 Warrior
Fluene – 80 Mesmer

Unload and heartseeker spam are pretty faceroll imo. I personally find that dodging, as all it takes is the push of a button, is rather easy to accomplish. Getting the timing down on when to dodge might be a learning curve for a new player, but I imagine after the first 30 minutes of game play that will be a thing of the past.

To each their own though. I find both professions have a very ridiculous niche they can hug that makes them what i would define as faceroll easy. I don’t expect everyone to agree with that sentiment.

Alright looks like I am going with a charr thief, charr because someone put it right when they said that it beats walkin plants, and thief because I am looking for the burst. Thanks guys! Any additional opinions would still be welcome though.

You will want to go for the thief then. While the warrior has some nice moves that fit into that desired playstyle as well, it is very niche. Try them both out though, see which one you prefer.

Hey OP, I’m in the same boat as you. Just bought the game and soo excited.
But I live in totally different timezone like most of you (US players), so I’m in the office now and can’t 100% focus on my job because I’m too excited to go home and play.

I already installed and updated to the latest patch last night, so no more waiting.
Arrrghhh, waiting for 5 p.m has never felt so long.

A Charr thief doesn’t fit imo! Too huge. Go guardian or warrior if Charr. I say either go Human thief or Asura thief. Now those look kitten! Just wait til you see the Asura animation!

Human and Asura also got the best dances!

You get a few slot so nothing to stop you making both. Make an Asura warrior and make it especially because it doesn’t fit. this is a different game, play it differently. And for the record I like my walking plants :P
