I’m really excited to become a part of this community.

Is there anything I should know before I jump in?

yeah dude bad timing, this game just got trashed with the latest patch. I mean if you don’t like doing group-able small man content then this game is quality…otherwise you really have bad bad timing.

Anet pulled a Blizzard here, they came down hard on the “hardcore farmers” at the expense of any modicum of fun.

My advice is, take your time, don’t rush skipping through content. Enjoy the journey, and come in with a fresh open mind.

Also remember this is still a very brand new game, and it will have growing pains like any other mmo.

Apparently if you want to play PvP make a Thief or Mesmer.

Don’t roll a necro until they get around to fixing them. Currently that class is… well, not working very well. Other than that, this game is pretty awesome.

Welcome. My advice? Do what’s fun! Whatever you enjoy. Whether you agree with the nay-sayers who reckon GW2 is broken or unfair will really depend on how you play, but if you just want to have fun there’s plenty of it to be had

My advice is, take your time, explore every nook and cranny of every zone before you go to the next one, the game looks fantastic and there is a lot of hidden things in the game, so make sure you explore everything so you don’t miss anything

The only thing you need to know; this game is not about rushing to max level and then grinding gear. It’s about exploring and taking your time in the world. Ignore opinion on whats “wrong” with the game, or which class is the “best”. Discover your own path, and play what is most fun for you. Good hunting !

Most important advice (and I’m not the first to say this, but it is important enough that I’m repeating it): Have fun. If something is frustrating you in-game, rest assured, it is optional. Max level? Optional. Crafting? Optional. Dungeons? Optional. PvP? Optional. You can perform a variety of tasks at any level.

Some tips to help you have fun: In the options, turn on the local clock and auto-loot. The latter saves you a lot of clicking when looting (just hit “F” to loot instead of “F” to see what can be looted, then click the loot to pick it up) and the former helps you realize that you were supposed to leave for work 2 hours ago (I swear that has not happened to me more than twice)

There are a lot of people venting frustrations right now because they were exploiting and were called on it. I’m sure at least one person will take offense to my calling their actions “exploits” but if it quacks like a duck and tastes like a duck…

Guild Wars 2 is less than a month old, so there are some changes, including some rather significant balance changes, in the pipe. This is one of the most helpful MMO communities I’ve seen, you just have to ignore the trolls.

First thing I noticed was how I get rewarded for having fun and exploring, and I don’t get punished for playing in groups.
Instant love right there. :P
