Just can't get into the game...
What content have you been trying? If PvE is not to your tastes, perhaps you might want to try PvP. With all your skills and skill slots unlocked, the basic gameplay is much more enjoyable, and you get a taste of what you’re heading towards in PvE—a carrot to chase, so to speak.
Failing that, perhaps a little information about the type of gameplay you are looking for—what is fun to you—would help us make recommendations.

Hmmm, Like Fildy said you might want to tell us more what aspect you find boring and what you have been doing. I have never played Thief, but someone described it as ’ smash your head on your keyboard and win’. Though I think that’s a kinda cheesy description I understand that it is rather easy to play. I have played Ele myself and found it interesting but also a bit boring due to the damage/output compared to the survivability. My engineer does almost the same amount of damage, but is more durable..
So please gives us more info and I promise you we do our best to tell you if you better uninstall or how to improve your gaming experience
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Also, how much time did you invest in each class?
A thief, I imagine, is pretty straight forward in gameplay, so if it’s not your thing, it’s not your thing.
However in time, between the different attunements and the variety of weapons an elementalist can use, I see them as incredibly versatile playstyle-wise and imagine it kind of hard to dislike the elementalist. That, of course, is a matter of opinion.
Have you done any dungeons or spvp? Any massive zone events?
You want a fun class and you haven’t tried mesmer yet???
I wasn’t into it, and then I started playing WvW. And then I started playing a mesmer. And then I started playing sPVP.
Now I’m hooked!
Both classes are fairly squishy. Even if the the Thief can do quite a bit of dps. Both are class choices that, I think, you’ll have to want to play.
Engineer, however……that takes a bit of thought to play.

Really depends what you like. If elementalist was boring for you, try dual daggers elementalist. You’ll either die all the time and hate it, or be on the verge of death all the time and love it :P
But the different classes are definitely good for/at different things. Engineer seems to be a good balance between challenging and awesome, from speaking to people. I’d also recommend giving it a while, since some classes don’t really come into their potential until later – traits are now making my thief significantly more tactically interesting, for example.
