Just dinged 80, best way to exotic?
Ways to get Exotic Armor:
1. Karma Merchants in Orr – These cost Karma, which you may want to save for your legendary or ascended crafting.
2. Dungeon Merchants – As you’ve found, these require running dungeons. Ascalonian Catacombs and Citadel of Flame have very fast paths available that will speed up the process.
3. Crafting – Get Armorsmithing, Leatherworking, or Tailoring (depending on if you wear heavy, medium, or light armor, respectively) and level it up to 400 to craft exotic level gear. This is going to cost around 20 gold to get to level 400. You will then have more expenses in order to craft the exotic stuff.
4. Buy it from the Trading Post – This can be the cheapest route, if you aren’t looking for the most expensive gear and know how to farm gold (hint: look at item 2 above)
5. World Versus World – You can spend those honor token things for gear at your world’s main base.
6. Hope for random luck drops – This won’t happen, but it is possible so I put it here.
Crafting is one of the most expensive ways to get exotic gear, so forget about that. Buy the gear from TP or Karma/Dungeon/WvW merchants.
I crafted mine.
It depends what stats you’re going for. I would hold off on skins you’re going for until after the april 15th patch.
You can buy some exotics for karma in orr, at free temples there will be a karma merchant.
Hi,
Like the title sais, whats the best way to exotic gear (except Black Market, my recources are limited). Im looking for rabid gear, exotic or better, i’ve tried:
- doing Cad… (something) Manor, got 43 tokens in 1 run, took me whole evening and it was very boring
. I need approx +1000 for a complete set? This will take a very long time.
- I tried doing a “Train” in the human starting zone for 1 evering, all i got was greens end some prof. materials (don’t have a prof. yet). Why is everybode doing this? I don’t really see the point yet :S
-I also did maybe 2 hours of WvW (i just followed some train). That got me over 400 honor badges. The WvW gear vendor has some nice exotic Rabid gear, can this be used outside of WvW? And if i got ~400 badges in 1 evening, i should be able to get this set in a decent amount of time..What are your experiences? Pls. help a newbie out
EDIT:
I also have a ton of karma, not sure what to do with it ^^
well if WvW worked out well for you go for it. Did you enjoy it? Only do things ingame that you’ll enjoy.
You can also use the karma to buy armor at the Orr Temples but they lack some statcombinations.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
This page shows all ways to get each specific type of gear (e.g. Cleric, Rabid, Berzerker, etc).
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Equipment_acquisition_by_stats
You can see there that you can get Rabid gear from crafting, Mystic Forge, Karma merchants, with WvW badges, with dungeon tokens and as loot. So just pick what method is easy for you (are you swimming in karma, dungeon tokens or WvW badges?) or even get the boots from WvW and the gloves with dungeon tokens etc, it’s all the same stuff, just different skins.
Edit: Oh, and the only way to get ascended stuff is crafting/extremely rare loot (weapons, armor, backpiece – backpiece does not drop as loot), Laurels (earrings, amulet, rings), Fractals (rings, backpiece) or guild commendations (earrings).
Thank you all, this is VERY helpfull!! Ill be looking is to this 1st thing when i get home tonight.
(Then what is the point of people doing train (in human startzone) all day?)

That is a very good question.

For some reason people prefer to play the game in a braindead mode.

Crafted also most of my stuff, but sunday i finished another lvl 80 warrior and bought the most in the TP.
Normally i would go for knights armor and berserker trinkets. However there were for pieces of named armor in the TP with berserker stats that were quite cheap so i bought them and used instead knights earrings.
Then some knight parts were also available for 1g30s or whatever, and others for 5-6g. So i bought the cheap and crafted in the end just the 1-2 expensive parts.
Then i wanted 2 nice axes, as skins. Phoenix Reborn looked nice and i transmuted 1 on an ascended i already had craftet, but the second i simply used how it was since it hat valkyrie stats that also compensated for the more berserker armor, and a Sigill of Fire that was worth 3,20g while i just payed 3,15 for the complete axe.
So .. if you want to spare some money its worth it to browse the AH a little and show if there are cheaper alternates to the crafted stuff
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

Well I played the game at launch so the only exotics in the AH were the crafted stuff. It might have changed now but way back when that was the cheapest way.

Yeah .. like i said i also crafted most the stuff for my older character, but now there are often some cheaper alternates or some crafted stuff is really cheap because of people leveling their crafter to 500, but maybe they don’t have exactly the stats you want but maybe you can user other stats on other items instead.

The train is for farming Karma, XP, Luck, Coins, and crafting materials.
There are some rare exotics that occasionally drop, but that’s not really the point of it.
The Queensdale train is also an easy way to fulfill some daily or monthly achievements such as group events, champions and even events. If you do not want to take on a champion or group event solo there is usually someone else doing the Q train. Even if you don’t mind soloing those you still have to find them. With the Q train you know where they are.
Paths 1 and 3 of Caudecus Manor shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes each unless somebody is having real trouble making the runs. You should also be getting 60+ tokens unless you miss clicking on something at the end. If you do two runs a night it will take about 12 nights to get your full set of armour. If you add the trickier path 2 it will take 8 nights.
Crafting used to be a good option but a jump in the cost of lower tier mats means that even if you collect enough materials yourself you are probably better off short term selling those mats and buying the gear. Long term you can probably make money off crafting, but it requires a little research.
WvW is the easiest way to “Exotic Up” your characters. Note that earning Achievement Chests generate Badges without ever setting foot in WvW (in case you don’t like WvW).
Crafting Exotics is relatively cheap when compared to Ascended Equip but still requires a significant investment in Crafting itself.
Dungeons are an option but the progression is rather slow (IMO) and the skins and stats available are limited. I guess the limited skins will not be an issue in a few weeks, however.
Map completion for higher level maps also gives random Exotic armor pieces.

WvW if you like it, between badges and karma you should be able to get armour for every slot fast, although if you use both badges and karma it will not be a “matched” set visually. If yo are going to skin it, or there are parts you don’t show, then that is not a problem.
I got my Exotic stats from WvW. By the time I was lv 80 I could already afford an entire set, without playing WvW too much (at least not more than 1/4 of my GW time). I think this will be the easiest option.
I then transmuted it with better skins.
Thanks everyone, this was very helpfull, especially:
1) WvW, definately the easiest and fastest way! (altho it can sometimes take a while before you can actually “hook-up” with the farm-train. For some reason not all trains seem to be willing to share their position :S)
2) Karma vendors in Orr. Wow this zone is a nightmare, and it takes some research to find out which different rabid pieces you need to get from which temple, and how to even get there, let alone it being contested. But definately worth it if you have leftover Karma.
I’m now almost full exotic this way…
I made 1 big nooby mistake tho. As a condition PU mesmer, i bought an acsended amulet for (i think) 30 Laurels, only to find out after: these come with defensive and offensive slots -.- I obviously wanted the offencive one, but guess which one i bought ^^. Tried making a ingame ticket/bug report, but im not sure anyone can help me with this
Last but not least: what is a good way to get skins? With all my combined exotics i kinda look like a circusclown. I’ll wait till April 15th before actually buying them, thx for the tip! But how and where to get cool looking sets?
You can also use normal gear with stats as a skin with those transmute stone (or something) right?
1) About wvw:
If you see the blue commander tag, you can follow it. In general this is a public raid/train,
If you meet a group/zerg without commander tag and everyone has the same guild tag, than it is a guild raid. Most guilds don’t like it, if other people follow them.
If you meet a group/zerg without commander tag and different guild tags, they are maybe coordinating via your servers ts, mumble,…
Please note: Not every zerg/train in wvw has the purpose to farm. Sometimes the whole zerg is just trying to get the dolyaks safely into keeps/towers to upgrade them or is collecting supplies in camps to build siege.
To get contact to your servers wvw community, you should join them on ts, mumble…
If you like wvw, beeing on ts will also help you to survive and understand how it works.
2) Orr:
To get to the temples more easily, you can guest on a server where the temple isn’t contested.
Skins: on the gw2 wiki you can find a list of all weapons and armors,. Just search for “list of weapon sets” and “list of armor sets”. So you can see what they look like and how to get them.
Use this for skins
Be aware most people mix and match pieces from different sets to get the look they want.

After the mid-April feature patch, you will be able to in-game preview all skins available in the game at your Account Storage screen. You can mix and match as well as apply dyes to see EXACTLY what the set will look like on YOUR character.
This is going to make the bank locations even more popular than they are now….

If money is an issue, you can do Karka farming with a fairly decent sized group of people. So if you can’t guest to Blackgate (usually there’s a small train in southsun). getting 19 karka shells and selling them on the TP got me little over 1g in 30-40 mins.
I was wrong :S I DONT understand why i should wait buying skins/ gear for looks… :S
- what if i buy my soper awesome Corrupted Orrian set NOW, from what i understand it will be available as a skin after april 15th right?
(does this count if the original item was deleted, for example through transmutation?) Please help me out here, cus i have the tokens ready and i want it so bad
If you transmutate a skin onto an item, you will have both skins after the 15th, the actual visable skin, and the underlying original skin.

That’s what i thought too, so theres no reason not to buy it?

To buy what .. and what reason ?
You won’t have all skins automatically, to get the skins in your wardrobe you must of course actually own the skin.

The stats arent right for me, so i want to transmute this to my current exotic gear.
So if i do this now, will i have both skins at april 15th?

Yes .. that is what i said already. But you have of course to buy it .. if you don’t buy it you don’t have the skins.

From the notes provided by the Devs so far, any transmuted item in your possession will add the current skin and the PREVIOUS skin to your wardrobe. Note that items that have been transmuted MULTIPLE times will only provide those LAST two skins to the wardrobe. Again, this is just what we have been told up to this point.
