Just started and have a few questions
1) Yes it is entirely possible to do PvE only. Although if you feel the latency isn’t too bad then it may be worth checking out the PvP aspects as they can be quite good fun.
2) Armor and weapons you can largely get by on drops at the start but crafting is also a good way to get items. Also for completing hearts (quests) you can purchase gear for karma (another in game currency).
3) This is quite subjective. If when you get to level 80 you want to be entirely optimal then yes there are builds out there that advocate certain weapons for certain situations. The other side of that is use what you’re comfortable with and enjoy. It largely comes down to your play style really.
4) Sell junk (broken lockpicks etc.) to vendors. If you don’t intend to craft then gather materials and sell them on the trading post. Otherwise it’s really at your discretion as to whether you sell gear you acquire. It’s probably more beneficial to salvage most of them and use the luck on yourself and collect/sell the materials you get from them.
Lastly yes they all make sense :-P

Hey thanks for that and another few questions if I can about crafting, is there some sort of quest that will introduce you to it and show you how to craft or do you have to figure that out and I started with I think 15 salvage kits are they expensive and should I buy more/where do I buy more if I should?
Thanks again
You don’t have to do pvp at all, if you don’t want them.
There’s is a little mapping for 100% map completion, to be done WvW, but alot of people lag there as it’s large scale group content, so you’re dine xP.
You can get gear from drops, probably enough while you’re leveling, but you can buy it as you level if you want, it isn’t expensive. It’s up to yourself.
Weapons, read about your class. Class forum: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian
Generally every class will carry the few viable weapons they have, either on them or in inventory.
You can get just about anything with gold, so feel free to sell everything on the tp, until you decide what gear you want to craft.
Alternatively you can work on crafts as you’re leveling.
Salvage all gear, only sell junk to vendors.

no quest introduces crafting, just go up to the crafting vendors and register a craft.
You can hold 2 at any time, if you want to change to others that you’re not holding, that will cost a few silver, relative to the crafting level.
The basic salvage kit is all you really need, master kits for salvaging rares(at lv68 + for ecto’s ….don’t need to worry about that right now though.)
I recommend you to salvage every loot you get, except the ones that you want to equip. Always run with at least 4 salvage kits of the cheapest kind. I recommend that you also gather every mat you see, so its good if you buy a mining pick and sickle and a logging axe.
The only thing you should really buy from the trade post right now are the inventory bags, you can press “O” to open the trade post and search for “slot bags”, the 8 slot bags cost like 10c, 10 slot bag may be 10s i think and so on, its good if you buy the 8 slot bags right now.
To access your bank you go to the capital cities from your race (Divinity’s Reach for human, Black Citadel for charr, Hoelbrak for norn and so on), but you can also access your bank from the crafting stations (like weaponsmith, tailor jeweller…), just interact with then and click on the tab for bank.
You can automatically deposit the mats you gathered like logs and leather without having to go to a bank, on your inventory there is a gear on the up right corner, click on it and select “deposit collectibles”.
Those are the basic stuff that i found most useful when i started playing.
Hey thanks for answering my questions guys it helped a bunch! I really appreciate it.
I started to post a really long response but something glitched and I lost it. In the mean time looks like most of that has already been answered.
When crafting: you get XP toward leveling your character when you level up your crafting level. You get the most crafting xp from discovering new recipes than by making many duplicate items.
Check out the wiki here at this site to find out more about crafting. But briefly crafting is divided into tiers of 75 levels. Each tier has 3 main levels consisting of 25 levels. Within each tier the same basic crafting materials and fine crafting materials are used. You only get xp from refining the basic crafting material of that tier in the very lowest levels of that tier. So…. it s best to gather or buy enough of the raw resources for the whole tier before crafting for that tier. For example for a weapon smith get all the copper ore you will need to reach level 75 of crafting. Then refine all that ore into ingots (bronze ingots for weaponsmith and armorsmith copper ingots for jeweler) in the beginning when you get xp for doing it. Then do the same for the wood you will need refining logs into planks. Make all the EDIT bronze components you will need for the whole tier. Then make dowels for the inscriptions, then inscriptions for the lowest level unless you have already leveled past it. Discover a few recipes by making an item. Then when you are into the next EDIT sub-tier make the inscriptions and dowels for that level and discover recipes. Then repeat for the master level of that tier.
You will be accumulating a lot of stuff and filling your bags. Either salvage the newly made stuff, equip it on your character or save for an alt or sell on the black lion trading post.
Welcome to Gw2 and have fun.

Thanks lazuli that is really helpful information
I want add at a little about fine crafting materials. You get laurels by doing dailies and monthies. You may be tempted to use laurels to get fine crafting materials for the crafting tiers you are working in for your various crafts on your characters but I would recommend against that. Because you may not be participating in WvW or dungeons or fractals the only way you will be able to get ascended trinkets (rings, amulets, earrings) is by buying them from the laurel vender. I know you don’t need to worry about this until you’re at level 80 but they are expensive in terms of laurels and other currencies. It takes about 170 – 180 laurels to buy these items from the vendor for 1 character.
Get your fine crafting materials (used for inscriptions and insignias, etc) from drops or buying on the TP.
