I’ll preface this by saying that I know towers are the way to go for gaming – especially Guild Wars 2, but I have a medical condition that keeps me in bed a lot, so I often have to play from there.

I’ve been playing since beta, but my current laptop has finally died, and I’m looking for suggestions as to what would be a good laptop for my needs. Basically, I only use it for games – with GW2 being the one played most often.

I’m looking for a 15" that’s not too heavy (I know the really thin laptops get amazingly hot, so I’m looking for something maybe in the 7lb range?) It has to be on my legs a lot anyway. I have a decent enough budget, mostly because I knew this would be coming.

Thoughts on brands?

I have only been on laptops for everything from gaming to whatever for the last 5 years. I have had several sizes and ages of laptops. We live full time in an RV so no real room for a tower anymore.

My other half’s laptop (Asus 17 inch republic of gamers laptop) does not get hot and has not needed a chill pad under it.
My 17 in laptop (acer) does need a chill pad to have fans running on the battery.

Mac book works “well ish” mine is an old one so I run it on low settings but Mac has less disconnects then the AMD tower I have.

Yes I use the Mac beta run on iOS

First of all, I’m sorry for your medical condition, I can’t even imagine playing GW2 lying in my bed with my laptop on my lap.
To give you an educated advice some more information would be great. Are you in EU or NA? What price range is affordable to you?

And since you mentioned you have to put the laptop on your lap- besides the inconvenience for your legs, heating will almost certainly become an issue since there’s a very high possibility for the venting slots accidently getting covered by the sheets.
May be you want to get somekind of breakfast tablet (the ones you use for having breakfast in bed) as a base for your in-bed-gaming or something alike (may be a friend or relative can carpenter something adequat).

North America. I don’t want to give prices, but let’s say I could probably handle anything but the most overclocked devices. Like I said, I’ve seen this coming and have been saving up.

I’ve actually been thinking about doing that, yeah. I’ve mostly used laptop pad/coolers in the past. I’ve seen a few breakfast table/laptop tables that might be nice.

In addition, I know it’s weird, but I use a wireless Logitech controller, because of the way I have to sit. It covers a lot of my movements and actions and allows more comfortable gameplay.

So it’s NA, alright. Since I’m in the EU I’m not too familiar with shops and resellers at your place, but since $$ isn’t too much of an issue… the one I heared a lot of would be Sager . They are definetly pricey but a huge plus is that you can customize the hardware and afaik they use Clevo barebones which means excellent maintenance possibilites. If you have questions on a certain modell I’d be glad to give my opinion.

Nothing weird there, many people use gaming controllers for GW2, as long as you found a layout that’s working for you, that’s great!
