Guild Wars 2

So I’ve played since day -3 and since then i have made a thief, ranger, guardian and a warrior. I still have a free character slot and I am debating whether to make an elementalist or a mesmer. I tried both of them but neither really appeal to me. The rest of the classes are even worse. Should I wait a bit for a possible new class or try to decide between those two classes? Also I would appreciate any help regarding the choice between the two classes.

Be forewarned that these are probably the hardest classes to level. They both become far more potent as you approach level 80.

That said, the mesmer is probably the more coveted class at level 80. It has the Portal skill for Jumping Puzzles and a couple of great Elites for parties. It also has a greater variety of builds if you’re into that sort of thing.

I like my elementalist as well, and it’s the only toon I have with a full set of ascended weapons. One important tip is that when you switch elements it counts as a weapon swap for various traits and sigils.

Consider visiting the forums for both classes and best of luck in your choice.

I have 2 80 Mesmers and 1 80 Ele. Ele is too much piano playing for me. My first Mesmer got to 80 without a lick of RP even though RP is generally my drive to level, it was that much fun past level 20 or so. She’s also my only Asura, with hilarious animations. Mesmers have hax skills when downed and are tougher than Eles to start.

So while it will be a very personal choice — every profession has adherents who find it more fun than any other — my recommendation is work on the Mesmer some more, play with weapon choices to see what feels most fun, and don’t give up early on.

Per Donari’s “piano playing” comment. No doubt that you have to give a little more thought and a lot more key pressing to play an Elementalist. I personally find that a reason to play the profession more — but your mileage may vary.

The only correct answer to this is “whatever you find the most fun.”

I doubt we’ll ever see another class added, Anet has pretty much said so and the glacial speed of updates would suggest even if they are down the road it is very very far down it.

Unless you really like porting people up jumping puzzles there isn’t much unique about a mesmer. Eles do insane damage and are very desired in wvw and dungeons, but they are a pretty high skill threshold class.
