ok this is just a quick question on legendary weapons. from what i heard during beta, in order to make legendary weapons you need to save 100 skill points in order to make them. is this still true or has it been changed since beta? cause if its true, what would be the best way to keep enough skill points for skills, while still saving up the 100 to get the legendary weapons?

You will have an abundance of skillpoints from challenges and the fact you get one each time you refill your xp bar at lvl 80.

so it still costs skill points to make the legendary weapons is that correct?

Yes. If I recall correctly, you need the skill points to buy materials.

In any case, don’t neglect your skills for a legendary. Over the time it takes you to gather the mats required for one, you’ll no doubt gain a good number of them. The prospect of a legendary (or even an actual legendary) won’t keep you alive or make you a better player.

EDIT: Here’s a list of the materials required for a legendary, with an estimation of the number of skill points you’ll need: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Legendary_weapon

Skills wont necessarily make one a better player either its knowing how and when to use them that’s important.

Indeed. But you must have access to them in the first place in order to learn them. I’d be a kitten stupid elementalist if I refused to get my cantrips just so I’d be a few skill points closer to a piece of gear that’s on the same level statwise as more accessible pieces. EDIT: Also, if you decide not to get a skill you know for certain you won’t ever use because you already have useful ones, that makes sense. Just don’t want people to neglect utility for cosmetics.

This is really arguing semantics, though, and beside the point.

so does this mean that if i accidently choose a skill and later decide i dont need it anymore, will i still be stuck with that skill? or will i be able to remove it?

You’ll be stuck with that skill in the sense that you can’t refund skill points. You can always swap it out for other skills in your skillbar.

if you really want to know which skills you’re going to use most, you could always go to PvP / Heart of the Mists and practice and see for yourself. so at least if you DO have to spend SP’s to pick up a skill, you won’t feel it’s wasted.

although, for completion’s sake, i would open up all the skills of your character. you never know what might come in handy. but a gain, a little research and trial and error can avoid this.

bottom line though – skillpoints, you’ll have MORE than enough of throughout your grinding for karma and mats. and map completion. : ))) good luck!

Some may disagree with me on this, but I would grab all skills in the case that some may be changed in the future. As someone coming from the original GW, I’ve experienced skills completely changing in function, usually to the point where they outshine previous skills. Depending on what you do, you may find yourself with an abundance of skill points, anyways. I’m a frequent dungeon runner on my guardian with all skills unlocked, and I have an excess of 300+ skill points.

While we’re on the topic of skill points for legendaries… according to the wiki, you need 200 skill points to create a bloodstone shard… does anyone know if this item, once created, is account- or soulbound?

@rozcinana, it is account bound.

@Milky, I just want to make sure you understand what others are saying—You get skills points from leveling, and doing skill quests throughout the map. When you hit lvl80, you still get skill points for every 254,000xp~ish earned. There is NOT a limited amount of skill points. It just seems like you are still paranoid about using them haha but it’s not a problem.

ArcTheFallen is right. You can’t hit a ceiling on skill points. Every 254k xp after lvl 80 grants you another skill point. You will need 200 skill points for the bloodstone shard and likely at the very least another 100 skill points for the 77 mystic clovers (143 on avg.) Legendary weapons require ALOT more than the previous 100 skill points from beta (I wish it was that easy).

You can also use 50 for eldrich scrolls which are used for some of the named exotics.

thanks guys for all the help. it definetly makes me feel more confident than before on how to obtain the legendary weapons.

now i do have some more questions on them. if i remember correctly, in guild wars 1 i know there were 2 weapons i think twilight and dusk, not sure of the name, but when combined, the weapons changes depending on the time of day. is that the same for some of them on here? also is it random what legendary weapon is created when you create one? like say i want to create a great sword and theres 10 different legendary greatswords in the game. will it be random the one i get or do i get to choose?

sorry for all the questions but im just now getting into MMOs

EDIT: the sword i was thinking of was Eternity in this game not in gw 1. so i guess i kinda answered one of my questions.

1) Each of the Legendary Greatsword recipes require a specific Exotic grade Greatsword and specific ingredients.

2) The starting Exotic versions do have different Greatswords for both Day (aka Dawn) and Night (aka Dusk). If you’re throwing in 76th+ level Yellow / Orange grade Greatswords into the Mystic Forge, then your game clock’s Day / Night cycle will influence which Greatsword you’ll get. (If you do it during the Day, then you can get Dawn as a potential Mystic Forge result. Or at Night, you can get Dusk.)

3) Yes, you can combine the (Legendary) Sunrise and Twilight final Greatsword products together to make a new (Legendary) weapon called Eternity. From what I’ve heard, the graphic will switch back and forth between Sunrise and Twilight to fit the current Day / Night cycle.

All of the specific information about the x3 Legendary Greatswords can be found on the GW2 Wiki page entry (toward the bottom of the page).
