Lets make the GW Community a good one
Well I don’t expect this thread to work for the same reasons other threads fail. This is an internet community and we all know how it looks – ton of anonymous people that can scream whatever they want.
Also it partly is Anet’s fault and their declaration that GW is different that ton of other games out there. Now any suggestion to bring feature X from game Y gets the same answer “if u want X go back to game Y duh” regardles of whether suggestion is good or bad. (And lets be honest GW isn’t in any way revolutionary. It is an evolution though not sure if in the right direction)
Guild Wars 2 encourages different things, or you could say goes in a different direction to most other MMOs out there right now (not to say that others aren’t also doing new and interesting things, because some are!). Sometimes I think it’s justifiable to object to bringing in a feature as implemented in another game, because it might run counter to the priorities and behaviour that GW2’s design is meant to encourage. A lot of people who find GW2 to be pretty much the same as any other game and finding that because they’re applying the same strategies they would use in any other game, rather than responding to how GW2 works or to the hints that are built into it to guide people into certain play styles.
Of course, not everyone plays the same and criticism or objections are all fine too. Above all, we shouldn’t be nasty to people who think or feel differently. Although GW2 fans can get a little over-zealous at times, I think we’re mostly pretty good, considering, as Yagu says, this is the internet.
Of course players have to respond to how the GW2 works.
- However, there are aspects to the game that does not work as the developers intended. They did not want the game to feel like a grind, but it does to many of the players. Personally I find that it is because I don’t get acquainted with a zone. In a single village there will be one task (the heart quests) to do and it barely takes 15min. In the first GW there would be more things to do in that same area, you would spend more time there and get to know the place and its history along with the people there.
- I am not saying that GW2 isn’t a good game, merely that it can deliver so much more than they originally promised and intended, but only if the players are willing to give some feedback about their game experience.
- The thing I mean about making the community a good one is that we try to be constructive. If the forum has nothing to offer but harassment and complaints that do not really describe the problem, then the game experience won’t be as pleasant, and then I would rather have had a multiplayer option to a single player game.
No, the forum needs to be mature about the different opinions that there might be and try to argument for or against certain suggestions.
I hope to see the game become better and bigger than its predecessor and also many of the other MMO’s out there.
I strongly join the voices of Sinifair and others in advocating making this the best game community we can as I also lost interest in wow when the community crashed & burned and it became a simple grindfest to endgame/loot/stats – I want a game where helping others, roleplaying or socialising, exploration, lore & fluff tidbits etc etc are rewarded and warmly welcomed.
This is still a very young game so it has much room for improvement (don’t they all) but it’s also crucial we try and keep ANet focused and informed of the direction we wish to see it go and build up the community as a strong selling point.
I’m pretty new but I see the potential here for the future if we can ALL keep on track and feedback our suggestions, observations & comments in a constructive way. Trolling, bias and generally unconstructive posts just turn me off reading the rest of the post or considering that viewpoint – constructivism is always better way to go, IMO.
I hope the game will continue it’s aim to offer many things to do and alternative paths to reward without falling into that dreaded trap of gear/level grind just to reach an arbitary endgame while missing out on the journey.
I’m hoping for deeper horizontal progression, extra choices and alternate build progression, more PVE & PvP, extra RP f& lore fluff such as emotes and skills that could be learned rather than simply rewarding ever-higher tiers of loot. Also, longing for them to make more use of the Personal story and character personality we have on our hero sheets – There is indeed so much potential for a most awesome game, given time and community support.
