Hi all,

I hit level 20 last night, and haven’t done more than a cursory try at crafting.

I have done some gathering, but have also sold quite a bit of what I have gathered due to limited space (even though I have sent some of it to the bank as well).

My question is, is level 20 too late to start crafting, and if not, how would you guys suggest I go about it to “catch up?”

im level 80 and i just started cooking, so no its never to late to start

there no to late m8 ..u can not even craft..if u dont wana…crafting its optional…depends if u wana craft or not….most ppl w8 untill lvl 80 and then craft…so u will have the gold and the mats for it….but thas if u do it for profit..
If u start craft on lower lvls it hlps u with the Exp…

It’s never too late to get a massive exp boost :P
I guess the best way to start would be to pick what you would like to train. then go exploring a low level area to find low level resource nodes that are used for the skills.

(Btw ores/logs and other junk can be deposited to a different part of the bank that doesnt technically use up space, but it has a limit of 250 so theres no need to sell it, just incase you didnt know )

Yea its never to late to start crafting. u just have to make up for selling most of ur gatherables, buy about 2 stacks of the 3 gatherable tools and run around and start mining. kill stuff along the way so u get those crafting mats as well. then start ur 2 crafting.

You can always go back and visit other new player zones to see a new expirence on the game as well as collect gathering materials. The xp will be lower but it will be level specific to the area, reducing your game level to match the level of the area you are in.

One of the very cool features in the game is the ability it has to save your progress in crafting even after you may have dropped a crafting profession. For example if I get to 125 Weaponsmithing and want to drop it for Taloring I can. Then later on 20 levels from now, (or when ever you want) you can go back and pick up Weaponsmithing again and it will start you at 125.

Never too late to start really. I’d get myself a good base of mats though. Even though you can do more than one craft at a time, you might just want to focus on one because it will take time and cost you if you want to buy mats outright. Some mats are used by multiple Professions, like Armor or Weapons, or Artifice and Jewelry, they all use ore. If you are juggling two of those profs it will get time consuming and expensive.

Nope, a guildy of mine has had a long day crafting. He’s lv61 and managed to craft himself a full set of gear. I think he’s about 180-200 in crafting level.

Unlike other games, guild wars seems to have a system where crafting is very rewarding and doesn’t require huge input to get a reasonable output from crating.

It is beneficial to craft while you level as it does give you experience, but even if you wait till 80 the experience is not wasted as you still earn skill points on each over-level.

And as someone else pointed out there’s a “collections” tab that can hold most collectables. You can even deposit them while out in the world by clicking the gear in your inventory and hitting “deposit all collectables”, or right clicking individual collectables to deposit. Another option if you find yourself running out of space is to use unused character slots as mules to hold items. Of course, you can always use gems (which can be bought with gold too) to buy space expansions.

It’s handy to be able to craft your own upgrades, but with how the economy is it’s often cheaper to simply buy the items anyway.

If you start crafting at a low level, then there’s a good chance you’ll be creating stuff that your character will be able to use. It’s always nice to create an upgrade with Tailoring, for example.

If you start crafting at a high level, your character will have more money readily available, and you’ll be able to breeze through it – collecting a nice bit of XP in the process.

So really there’s no bad time to start crafting.

I leveled myself to 68 last night. Since lvl 1, I have saved all my mats for all the professions. I started crafting last night and gained 10 levels. However, since I was only starting to enter the final zones, I didn’t have enough mats to max out my professions. However, w/ the bonus exp buff for crafting, it was pretty good and now I only have 2 levels left to go. You can craft whenever you want, if you want.

Having sold some mats may slow you down a little since you may have to buy/farm some things to progress. But even at max level you still have potential to gain from crafting even if its just by selling your wares in the trade house

It’s never too late to start leveling your crafting. It even gives you experience. So if you have a ton of gold, you could potentially level up, just by crafting!

Like everyone else says, it’s never too late! It may take a bit to get items suited to your level, but it’ll be worth it in the end!

Save your crafting until your 60+ its a massive amount of easy exp, gather everywhere as you level though.

I must be the unluckiest player in the game. I cannot recall ever recieving mat recipies for crafting… other than dye. My main is level 36/37. I pay close attention to everything I sell. Kinda a ritual really. I don’t want to sell stuff that may come in handy later.

Recipes are either discovered through the Discovery pane at the crafting station, or purchased with Karma.

It actually might be too early for you to start crafting. You’ll level up pretty quickly with materials you’ve already collected and then once you get to the second and third tier you won’t have enough materials unless you spend a few gold on the trading post. Best time to craft is like level 60 imo because you will have collected a significant amount of mats by then as long as you have been salvaging and mining/gathering while playing up to that level.

This is the first MMO I’ve played where I’ve actually been able to do a pretty good job of keeping my crafting level on par with my character level. I have to buy a few odds and ends on the TP, but it’s not bankrupting me.

Well I wasn’t able to craft past level 50 in tailoring (due to lack of jute) until the trading post came up. So finally it did, and at character level 48 I managed to go up to level 52(!) from simply catching up on my crafting and using all the mats I had collected. So it’s definitely never too late.

You know whenever a mmo come out i like to wait until i am the max level to start crafting. it gets you back out into the world again and you can really enjoy the environment without the rush to level up.

Not too late even though it may be too late for your main character to realize any benefit…unless you hit the crafting hard…until you max out the crafting. Use it to help any alts you plan on creating. Also having a little more cash on hand should make it easier for you.

Craft whenever you feel like it. Personally, I’m saving the mats first and will start crafting after I get my first char to 70 and my second char to 70. It can get you to 80 just by crafting [Besides, not much people in the 70-80 zones yet hehe].

It is never too late to start. If you want to get the most out of it (ie levels) you should wait till like 60+ and then get 80 through crafting imo.

If you’re looking for a cruisy tradeskill to level up fast, try Chef. Not only are the materials fairly prevalent but also alot of them are acquired from the vendors and Karma sellers around the world map.
