Level 80 Warriors - What Weapons Do You Use And Why?
I’m curious also. I started out leveling with a greatsword because it’s awesome, but I’ve settled on sword and board for the last 30 levels with bow as a backup for range. I’m only 56, but I feel comfortable with what I’m using right now.
must be good playing the OP class us ele suck at leveling compared to your class and you guys have it ez peasy
I have an ele also and it’s a lot harder, especially the personal story stuff.
pvp wise ele rocks dont know what you’re talking about…
Dual Axes. Good deeps + fast adrenaline.
Longbow. Good AoE + cripple.

Anything, Warriors are just OP at PvP even with a candle as weapon.
Depends on the situation and group composition.
For soloing and encounters where there is high resistance to bleeds, I go with a Greatsword. I also use this for farming events. Unlike Whirling Axe, which has a 15 second cooldown, 100 Blades has a 6 second cooldown, meaning that it can be used more often and reliably between waves.
For encounters where the boss has high armor, I might go bleed-spec with Sword in main hand and axe in off hand. The sword would build the bleeds up while the axe would be great AoE while rebuilding adrenaline incredibly quick.
Rarely, I might also go with a Hammer mostly for crowd control. Oddly enough, I leveled up to my mid-50’s using a Hammer.
For long range, I would prefer a Rifle for single-target damage or a Longbow for AoE and occasional cripple. I also use a Longbow for WvW so that tagging Invaders before they die is much easier, thus completing the WvW monthly achievement much easier.

Great sword and an axe w/shield.
I use the great sword to build up adrenaline with 100 Blades. Then switch to the axe w/shield which gains me an extra 5 adrenaline. Hit them with Cyclone Axe to increase their vulnerability. Activate “On My Mark” for more vulnerability. Then hit them with Eviscerate. Shield Bash as an interrupt. By this time their health is low enough to where I can just finish them off with auto attack or switch back to my great sword and hit them with 100 Blades again. This has worked well for me on 1v1.

Sword / Axe
&
Longbow
I play a bleed heavy spec, usually able to stack up 20+ bleeds in a burst and maintain 12 stacks outside of the burst. Whirling axe, with my crit % and bleed sigils, deals great aoe damage and can, with a bit of luck, also stack up decent bleeds and vulnerability.
The longbow is more for utility’s sake. While the physical shots are poor, thanks to my focus on condition damage, the burn is beastly. The blind and root have saved my teammates and I more than once, especially in dungeons.
Greatsword / Sword MH Axe OH or Longbow.
I use the signet crit spec and basically just Hundred Blades > Whirlwind Attack > ~ > turn around and Savage Leap back > Whirling Axe. That’s for pve of course.
Greatsword/Longbow is what I’ve found to be the best at everything since leveling is all about AoEing kitten all day.
I use sword and board as the primary. The shield block is pretty useful in tight spots, and the DPS is actually not that bad. Given, it’ll take longer to kill stuff than with a greatsword, but there’s also more utility.
For ranged, I prefer the rifle for solo engagements and just switch it with the longbow if AoE is required.
I don’t really like the axe and mace skills.
You’ll be forced to sit around with your Rifle at level 80, and just pretend you’re a Mage or something. On the rare occasion that you get to actually preform Melee combat, Sword main hand is the best (off hand doesn’t matter), the most throughput in the game is from auto attacking with the first MH Sword skill, with lots of + condition damage and + power
I currently use sword/axe.
I actually leveled most of the way to 80 using 2h Hammer though. Dps is lower since the weapon is slow, but the CC is great. I swapped to sword/axe since those are the best weapons i found though. Axe is by far the best offhand weapon imo, the 2 skills you get from it are amazing. Sword in MH is great for bleed build, so pack on alot of +condition damage.
I’d go back to hammer if i found a better one, but one thing that annoys me is most enemies in the dungeons have that CC immunity stack buff, that blocks 1 outta 6 cc’s which makes hammer completely useless there.
Always pack a ranged weapon in your 2nd slot; alot of dungeons especially HEAVILY punish you for being in melee range. Its actually insanely unfair.
I leveled mainly with axe/warhorn and rifle. I tried out the greatsword last night, and love it. Until then, I had only done other weapons enough to unlock all the skills.
I plan to spend more time with all of the weapons eventually. I want to really get a feel for ALL of them.
I play a bleed build, sword and axe
Why not dual sword?
Sorry for the late response, but the reason is simple
The sigil that you can put on your weapons that has a chance to cause bleed on crit is really useful with the whirlwind type attack (axe in off hand, number 5)
For me depends on what I want to do and I have a use for just about any combo, but what I use most:
Sword+Axe (bleeds, gap closer, cripple, fury buff, and movable AoE)
Hammer (crowd control)
Greatsword (AoE DPS)
For range I prefer rifle to bow, for the vulnerability debuff, cripple, and knockback to straight dps, but I carry a bow as well.
About the only thing I don’t use is a 1H Mace, even though the stun is great I just don’t like the skills taken as a whole.

Usual runaround build is Axe + Axe / Rifle, specced for bleeds and vulnerability on crit and rifle penetration, do not underestimate the amount of damage a “For great justice” + rifle finisher can do if you line it up correctly and target the back of a group
Otherwise, if I need a little more AoE I carry a longbow as backup, 2 swords for bleeds and mace + shield if I need interrupts.
The only weapon I do not use regularly is the 2h mace although PvP may change that… focussing on 100% world completion at the moment
