So I’m creating a new character and I would like to level it until 70-79 without using the boost, but I would use the 80 boost on this character for the level 80 exotic gear.

Now for the questions:

1. If I get it to 79 and use the boost, is it a sure thing that you receive the level 80 gear? I’ve searched a bit and didn’t find an accurate answer on this
2. Regarding the Hero Points from Hero Challenges that I’ll get from 1 to 79, will I get them as extra points when using the boost?
I saw that you will get all the skills except the elite spec after using the boost.
3. How about the story line to 80? If i do the level 1-70 stories and at 79 use the boost, do the stories continue or will they be reset?
4. Can I choose a certain weapon or will I be given a few default ones for each class?
For example, I’d like a pistol for the Thief. Can you get that from the 80 boost?

Unfortunately this is a lot of hypotheticals that no one may know. im sure majority of the ppl that used the 80 boost did so from level 1. otherwise just used tomes. but if i had to guess.. if you were 79 and used the 80 boost you SHOULD get the exotic gear even tho its useless tanky gear soldier/rabid.
going from 1 to 80 you collection enough hero points from leveling to fill out all non elite spec lines. any you earn beyond that should be extra to spend on the elite.
if the boost functions like the scrolls just a stronger version you should not lose any story progress.
as with your exotic gear, you cannot choose the stats nor in terms of weapons do you get to choose the weapon types. i boosted a warrior and got rifle, axe and shield. i had to craft the others.
i boosted from level 1 to 80 so i cannot answer all of your questions exactly as you asked them but thats how i think things would work.

1. You get the level 80 gear regardless of what your character’s current level is. Even if you use it on a level 80 character, you’ll get the level 80 exotic gear (I know because I used it on a level 80 character).
2. The amount of Hero Points you get from the booster is the amount a character gets just from leveling from 1 to 80. The Hero Points from Hero Challenges you did prior to using the boost will just be added on top of that base amount.
3. The personal story tracks your progress, and it’ll always be there for you to continue. Once you reach 80 (and own HoT), you’ll get a notification in-game about starting the HoT story. You could go ahead and start with that, or you can go back and finish up the main personal story from before HoT.
4. If I recall correctly, the boost gives you (at least) one of at least a few weapons your class can use. I could be wrong about that, though. However, I’m pretty certain that a thief would be given at least one pistol from the equipment pack.

Edit: Looks like I was wrong about the pistol, according to Tanner below. But it’d be easy to track down a temporary pistol to use until you can get an exotic one.

I boosted from around 40.

Gear: hypothetical, but I think you get the gear even if you use it on a lvl 80!
Hero points: By beibg levelled to 80 you get all the base hero points. Any challenges you’ve done along the way is on top of that, just like if you’ve levelled step-by-step.
Story: Completely unaffected, just like if you do story up to a point and then play or tome up to 80.
Weapon: You get default weapons. As I boosted a Thief too, I can tell you the are a pair of Daggers, a Shortbow, a Spear and a Harpoon gun. Everything, absolutely everything, is Valkyries (Power, Vitality, Ferocity).

One thing to consider is that the equipment you get from the level 80 boost is identical to crafted level 80 exotics, and the only difference from exotics you can get in other places like the ones bought with karma in Orr is the skin.

So once you’ve levelled to 79 you may well find you have other options to get exotic equipment – which give you a wider range of stats to choose from – and you can use the boost to level a 2nd character to 80 to give you more options for playing high level content.
