Leveling
Scaling down is one of the major features of the game. It allows people to experience the world at the right lvl, rather than blast through at lvl 80 or “outlevel” an area and not experience it properly. Gear and weaponry however, arent scaled down to the same extent so they will give you that feeling of being stronger as you progress.
If up keep your armor up to date every 10 levels or so, you will always be stronger than the content you are down scaled to.
It will be even more apparent when you go to any area under level 60 in full exotics.

These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
I am wondering what is the point of leveling when they keep bringing my lvl down to the right one for a certain quest.
Unlocking more skill slots, more skills and more traits.
basically, it allows you to create your build.

Downscaling lets you play every lower zone regardless of your level and still have a challenge, instead of steamrolling thru old content 30 levels too high and being bored. I like the feature. Lets you finish an entire zone if you want and not feel like you should have left already & you’re not getting any XP.
You will however, not be quite as weak downleveled from say 50 -> 30 as a true level 30, because you’ll have more traits, more elites to choose from, better optimized gear that scales down but doesn’t quite bring you to the same level, which lets you flex your muscles a bit but not get bored.
The downscaling is done for 2 reasons: so that you can experience all of Tyria with a single character and so that you can help lower level friends/guildies, all without losing immersion and feeling bored.

Leveling is an extremly poor experience in GW2 in my view.
At level 30 you’ve unlocked all the slots and then you just get more trait points. Skill points you also get after level 80 so you don’t need 50 of them. The trait system is too poor to be really excited about I feel, so also that could’ve been cut down to smaller amounts. Really for what they prepared for leveling progress, level 30 would’ve been sufficient, maybe level 40 for a few trait points if needed but that’s it.
It’s true though that on higher level gear gets more stats and more stat lines. So not just higher bonuses but more bonuses. That’s something they should’ve left for gear tiers and endgame armour and not for leveling. I guess they just didn’t know what else to do or something.
But to me the leveling experience just got really boring after level 30. It felt to me that my character was at max level, except that it wasn’t.
i’ve found that gear is more important than being level appropriate. My first character was a thief, and i quit him because he seemed really bad once i got into the 30’s and 40’s. hundreds of hours later i came back to him and saw what kind of gear i had one him…underleveled blues and white across pretty much every slot there was, which was why even in same-level zones or even scaled down zones i wasn’t very good at all. once i updated the gear i never had a problem again.
and i think getting levels and therefor trait points is more important for some professions than others. for example, my thief got a lot better once i got to 60 and could get the 20% dmg boost when the enemy’s under 50% health..but my necro hardly needs a single trait beyond larger marks at 10 trait points
