As a new player to Guild Wars 2 coming from a long history of MMOs and more recently MOBAs, I want to get into the PvP and WvW aspects of the game. In WoW for instance, PvP was a viable leveling option, but it was extremely inefficient when compared to dungeon spamming.

The problem is that I can’t find solo documentation on leveling options. I understand that there is a group that runs from one event to the next that is the fastest leveling option. I understand WvW as a leveling option. Personal Story leveling is impossible, on the justification that you end up extremely underleveled for your next quest each time.

But I see that sPvP also adjusts you to level 80 and gives you all skill unlocks. Since this is one of the aspects that interests me most, I’m curious as to whether I can level entirely though it. If I can, how? Thanks!

For now you gain glory from each PvP match and there is a vendor NPC that trade glory for items and one of those is Tome of Knowledge, it gives 1 level automatically, get 79 of those and you get to lvl 80 without leaving the Heart of the Mists.

But devs stated that glory will be removed, so this won’t be available for long.

At the moment, going into PvP just auto levels your character to 80 and unlocks all skills, weapons, traits etc. But only in PvP – this is to put everyone in PvP on a level playing field. If you went straight from character creation with a level 2 character to PvP, you’d be level 80. But if you left and went back with the same character to PvE, you’d be level 2 and have nothing unlocked again.

I understand (could be mistaken), that when they do finally complete their changes to PvP in the next month or so, that actual levelling will be possible via PvP. So you’ll still be level 80 for the purposes of PvP, but the XP you earn will go towards “real” levels for your character. So it would then be possible to level to 80 via PvP, just like in WvW, except you’d have the fun of being at level 80 power all the way up, unlike in WvW, which levels you up but doesn’t unlock anything extra like skills etc automatically.

So yes, it should be possible in the future. But it isn’t right now except using the method Belzebu describes above.

Basically what Belzebu said. For the first time doing a mixture between WvW and sPvP can be a good way to level if you are more interested in the pvp aspect of the game.
In WvW you do alot of events, can gather materials, discover the map, kill enemies, in PvP you can earn glory and spend that on tomes that level you up instantly. But we don’t know what’s going to happen after the 18th of march because glory will be removed.

So many incorrect statements in this thread. If you arent sure dont make statements like this guys. Its very confusing for new players.

For now you gain glory from each PvP match and there is a vendor NPC that trade glory for items and one of those is Tome of Knowledge, it gives 1 level automatically, get 79 of those and you get to lvl 80 without leaving the Heart of the Mists.

This method will be usable after the patch aswell. You will gain silver from pvp matches and the scrolls will cost only silver aswell.
