I’m a Lv.20 Human Necromancer and the leveling is getting really tedious. I’m doing the hearts in two 15-25 areas and am barely getting exp. I’m holding off on crafting until 60 so I can do two crafts up to 80. I need tips. I leveled really fast the first day from 1-15 and now I’m going really slow.

Try going to the other starter zones. You can do this by going to whatever starter city you’re at and then going through the purple portal to Lion’s Arch. Here’s you’ll find other portals to the other starter zones.

Yeah I did that but I still leveled slow. Should I do more than two starter zones? Maybe that messed up my leveling….

Well I normally go for map completion when I level and I complete all of the starter zones including the cities first. I believe you’ll come out at lv25ish when you’re done with those. You can then hit the four 15-25 zones.

It’s entirely up to you on how you want to play. I like to be above the max level when I do a zone. An you can do this for most of the game with the exception of a few spots but you can use crafting daily achievements to cover this depending on how often you play.

So I complete the cities and then do starter zones? Is it guaranteed 25 though? That sounds like a brilliant plan.

Yeah. I didn’t really do any any dynamic events so it should be.

That’s exactly what i’m doing and works wonders; So far i’ve done 5 cities, 5 starting zones, 2/4 15-25 zones and i’m sitting at 55lvl atm. Not only ur moving towards map completion ( which u will have to do anyways if u want a legendary someday), but by completing a map u get 10 sp and green items

Completing the stages of your personal story also give nice chunks of XP and I wouldn’t put off crafting. Unless you plan to buy mats off the TP you can’t achieve level 400 without already being at level 70-80 so you can harvest Tier 6 mats from places like Frostgorge, Southsun and Orr.

After you complete the starter zones you should have more than enough mats to craft through the first and maybe the second tiers of your chosen crafts.

I am guessing he has a main. If not only Artificer would be possible. Cook need a load of Karma items if you want to get it done cheaply.

In my exp, getting to level 25ish-30 is the longest. But once you reach level 30, you should have no problem doing DEs and quests to get you leveling fast. 2 areas in particular has events happening a lot with lots of people farming them for exp too. I remember zipping from 30-50 in just a week (about 3 hours of playtime each day and 5 hours on days off). 50-70 was even easier. 70-80 was super easy and only took me 1 hour…(I leveled armorsmith from 1-400 haha)

There is more to leveling than just doing heart quests. Daily achievements give a ton of XP. And there is no reason to not do crafting right from the beginning. What is your reasoning for delaying starting crafting until you hit 60? You gain the same amount of levels regardless of when you do it as far as I understand. By not doing anything crafting you are giving up a decent chunk of XP. Just gathering the nodes you see on the minimap as you go about doing stuff will net some nice XP. So even if you don’t do any recipe discovery you should have been at least doing that. Because it is part of the dailies which really makes leveling better. I’ve not had to do any alternate level ranged zones. I’ve simply followed the zones the personal story has taken me. I’ve done the dailies every day I play. And gathered nodes as I described. I completed 100% of each of those zones. And used the most efficient route to 400 for crafts as my guide for doing crafts and only less than half way to 400 and I’m level 67. With all of that I’ve out-leveled the content by more than 15 levels levels. Not counting the 3 or so levels gained from doing one time each both AC and CM dungeons for SM and all 3 paths of EM. So take out recipe discovery and there is still plenty of XP to be had to have been at level with the content without the need for hoping zones for same level content as another zone.

Don’t listen to anyone who tells you that crafting is the way to go. If you don’t want to craft, then don’t.

Gather a lot though, you’ll need it later, and it’s decent exp.
Do your daily achievement. That’s a level all by itself, every day, and takes about 10 minutes.
Finish entire zones. I can’t tell you how much you get from exploration, it’s simply astronomical.
Do dungeons. Anyone who tells you that you can’t is a liar. You can enter AC explorable, tag mobs, and hide, and you’ll be absolutely fine. Get some high level friends to run you, and you’ll be making a level every 30 minutes or so.

Kill lots of enemies. This is easier if your playstyle is suited to it, but everyone can either stack 8-11 mobs on them and AoE them to death at once, or simply rush from one mob to the next. If you kill 20 enemies a minute, you’re getting 2.5% of a level a minute, plus Bonus Experience. That adds up, and it’s generally stupidly easy to do.

How far that little candle throws its beams!
So shines a good deed in a naughty world.

I’ve been exploring the cities and zones and have to say that I am leveling smoothly on a my new guardian toon. Started him yesterday and played a bit before dinner and played for an hour or so today and am Lv.13 and I am having more fun than when I was grinding for levels. I’ve only discovered two cities and am in progress of finishing Caledon Forest(since I’m a Sylvari Guardian) and Metrica Province, since I’ve played that zone a lot. After I’m done discovering the two completely, I’m moving on to Hoelbrak and Wayfarer Foothills. Idk if I’ll do Plains of Ashford and Queensdale right after since I’ve played the two to death. I will definitely do them later on however.
Thanks for the help guys.

If you do all the other stuff then yes you can leave out crating but is still a good idea to gather all the stuff you run across. It’s all a matter of how you play. But take advantage of as many sources of XP as possible and the leveling goes as fast as possible.

I’m saving crafting for lv.60 to just level two crafts all the way up and hit 80, then tackle the rest of the content.
But I completed those two zones and am working on the Norn zone. I’m currently 18 and I haven’t even played that much since I’ve been playing Halo 4 in the meantime. I’ve only played 9 hours on that toon and he’s lv.18.

Here’s a few tips to ease some leveling pain, in the lower brackets.

Starter zone you are in:

Do hearts and map completion while doing hearts.

after you finished your level 1-5 hearts.

Do city map completion of the main city your character is from. IE Norn – Hoelbrek, Charr – Black citadel.

Be sure to Harvest EVERYTHING on your endevors – Wood, Nodes, Gathering. Very important, the Wood, Nodes, and Gathering a lot of times yield more experience then killing something.

When you get stuck in one zone, Move on to the next starter zone and do the same as above.

To get to other starter zones, each main city will have an asura gate to Lions arch. Get to Lions arch and pick another gate to walk through, then you are in a new starter zone.
While in Lions Arch do the City Map completion. When you get to the next starter zone do that city map completion.

TIP:
The guards at the Asura gate will have guards from the starter zone. Meaning you want to go to the Charr Starting zone, look for the gate that has Charr guards in front of it. Sylvari, look for the Sylavari Guards. Norn look for the Norn guards, etc. The gate will take you to the starter zone of the race guarding it.

I also has levelling problems, as my highest levelled character is still at only level 19.

I believe you should try and ignore trying to level up and just play. I mean doing what you think is fun. When doing this, I usually level up very quickly.

Every time a Dynamic Event appears, you should always participate, if possible. It gives you some Experience, plus some Karma and Coin. The amount rewarded, I think, depends on the recommended level for the Event.

Gathering is important if your character is a Crafter. Every time you walk past a Gathering node you should, if possible, go and collect your loot. Do not sell the collectiables you find! They could be really useful for crafting. There is a special storage accessiable through the Crafting stations that have unlimited space, but can only store collectiables and ingredients for Crafting. This storage can be accessed through the bank as well.

Crafting can be very useful. You could reach very high levels through Crafting only.

Map Completion could be a very effiecient way of gaining Experience. You should always complete Heart Quests and Skill Challenges(which gives you other rewards as well!). You should always try and find the Waypoints and reach the Viewpoints of every area. Once you have completed the map of a specific area, you recieve huge awards, which are even larger if you acieve 100% Map Completion!

Story Quests and Dungeons would give you some Experience if you complete it.

Always kill native creatures/enemies, unless you’re outmanned or if the enemy/creature has a higher level than you.

Revieving Players and NPCs also give you Experience. Don’t leave anyone behind!

You should always try and complete your Daily Achievements, plus other Achievements as well. They give you a high amount of Experience and is easy to complete.
